Hey fellow history buffs, this is a question I'm posting for a fellow writer. She's doing a book set in the 1940s about archeologists working on Aztec sites. She's looking for information on the culture down there during that time period and a little bit of the history. If you know anything specifically about archeology down there from around that time period that would help too =)

C.P. Lesley (cplesley) | 339 comments There's a lot of good stuff about Machu Picchu (Inca, not Aztec, I know, but the circumstances for archeologists must have been similar and the time period is about right). Turn Right at Machu Picchu: Rediscovering the Lost City One Step at a Time and Cradle of Gold: The Story of Hiram Bingham, a Real-Life Indiana Jones, and the Search for Machu Picchu are two possible titles of interest. I haven't read them, though: not my field.

Maybe there's a similar Indiana Jones-like guy who worked on the Aztecs?

Thanks, I'll pass those on to her =)

It's not really my field either. I always enjoyed learning about that culture, but never pursued it in really deep research. I know this was after several Mexican revolutions, but I don't know a lot about South America at that time period.
