or have a gin and tonic (or a Pimm's) with Ian McEwan and talk about atheism.
lisa, your question totally has me stumped! I've been thinking about it for the past week, and I still have no idea whom I'd want to meet! I've even been staring at my bookcases, trying to get ideas.
Ooh, maybe Nick Hornby, just to listen to him talk about books. I wouldn't even ask for (more) recommendations, I'd just say, "So, tell me about some books..." Or ditto with Nancy Pearl! Or Neil deGrasse Tyson. Yeah, the only authors I can think of are non-fiction, so basically it's just "Tell me more about what you've already written." *shrug* This was a hard question!

Tiffany, it is a hard question! That's why I didn't immediately answer my own question because I wasn't sure what the answer was.
Ian McEwan would be interesting to talk with. I like a lot of his work.
My first answer was Christopher Nolan, but he doesn't write books so I don't think he counts. My second answer would be Graham Greene, but he's no longer with us. So...my next idea would be John Banville. He is going to re-start the Philip Marlowe novels by Raymond Chandler this year and I would love to ask him about that. I would also just like to hear him talk about his writing process and how he crafts characters.

Oh! I completely forgot that the other day, I was daydreaming about sitting and listening to Nick Hornby talk about football. How could I have forgotten that? Oh, music, too!

This is probably a familiar question but here goes: What author (who is still living) would you most want to have a conversation with over your favorite beverage? What would be the first q..."
The trouble is that I would be so in awe of my favourite author/s that I would have difficulty sounding coherent ...

I was thinking the same thing. It sounds like we already have a good group of admirers who want to chat, or listen to him ramble. Now we just need to pick a location and convince him to come meet a bunch of strangers ;)
