I'll try a dozen. I own at least fifty I haven't read, and just bought ten more from Half Price books.

I know it sounds unrealistic and a bit too optimistic but I'm trying for 100 books this year. I'm on my 9th book so I think I'm on track but...

I'm going to try for 25. So far, I have 7, but with my son's baseball season starting and his karate classes, my free time will be limited.

I am aiming for 50 this year, and 20 of those have to come off my already existing To Be Read pile (mountain). I've finished four so far.

I'm aiming for forty. I have nine done so far, so I'm starting to think that forty was a little bit too modest a goal. Though University goes back in two weeks so I won't have quite as much free time then. Still, I'm seriously considering raising the bar to fifty or sixty...

My goal is to read 50 books this year. So far I've read 8 books, and apparently, I'm 2 books ahead of schedule!

That's great Hailey! Unfortunately I'm 2 books behind my schedule of my goal of 100. I hope I catch up.

Thanks Hailey. You can enter you're goal into the challenge widget at the top of the group home page to keep track of your challenge within the the group if you'd like.

Ah, phooey! I looked at which books have been recorded as part of the 2013 Reading Challenge and somewhere along the line, some books were wrongly added. So after fixing everything I'm only at 6 books which is on schedule. So yay? Hah, better be more careful huh?

I've never done one of these reading goal things before but I have wanted to for a while. I literally have no idea what I will be capable of, so I went for a nice and easy goal of 20 for this year. If I get to that fairly early on, I'll just double it or something. Good luck everyone!

I've read 78 books in the 70 odd days of this year so far which is slightly over 1 a day, but some of those have been 'short' books of ~240 pages or less such as Annie Oldham's The Burn & Infraction or Bernard Knight's Dr Richard Pryor series. Then at the other end of the spectrum I've also tackled 1,168 pages of Atlas Shrugged and multiple 600-700 page Dale Browns.
(My Average book length: 26,057 total pages read / 78 books completed = 334 pages average per book)
Here's an example of absurdity, in my country the top readers this *week* have 85 books, 40 books, 39 books, 38 books & 38 books read. In 7 days. Apparently.
No idea how you can read 10 books in a day let alone 5 a day consistently.
I'm aiming for 52 (one a week.) I went way over that last year, but I'm hoping to read longer books this year rather than MORE books. So far I've read 16 books this year, so I'm still ahead of schedule.

Hi! I'm Karli! I'm new. (I have introduced myself on the Introduce Yourself thread but just thought I'd mention all of that anyway.) I've set myself a goal of reading 100 books including at least 20 classics.

I'm currently reading Walden (in fact the 1900 edition from Walter Scott Publishing)

I set a goal of reading 125 books! Last year I did set a goal of 100 and ended up reading 111. I don't skim or rush through just to make my goal. I usually read several books at a time(up to 5) this includes audio books, e books, hard and soft back.

Heartling wrote: "HI'm currently quite short of my 20 book goal so any recommendations would be much appreciated ;) "I'm about halfway through Walden and really enjoying it so I'd recommend giving that a try, or reading about it and seeing if it's something of interest to you.
Two Years Before The Mast is a good read also, but will depend on your interests - is about a student at Harvard who decides to take to the sea for two years and chronicles his experiences. Written in the 1800s it's a pretty amazing glimpse into the past. It's non-fiction like Walden.

Fiction wise, there's Atlas Shrugged (written in 1957, arguably contemporary) which is one of the top books I've read so far this year.
