I have also come to the point where a lot of what I used to read and adore seems like the same story, basically told over and over, which explains my recent fascinating with Post-modernism..:)
I'm much better now, thank you. And you're right, I tend to take myself far too seriously most of the time (I'm my worst critic, really,) it's only when we relax a little that things seem less taxing and productivity ensues.
I hope you have a relaxing weekend, as well, and that this week is a great one!
Thank you again, Annie!

I put this one on my to Read list.
Hope it is scarier than Stephen King's last one...

Hey Dustin, I am about to start A Feast for Crows! I have been putting it off for a while because I know once I start I will not be able to put it down...
Is it as good as the first 3?

Hi, Ben! Thank you so much for the reply.
A Feast for Crows isn't as popular as the others, due to the absence of the majority of our beloved characters like Tyrion, Dany, Bran, etc.. It's set throughout Westeros/Dorne. As a result, we get several new faces, alliances. I'm loving the addition of Brienne and Cersei's chapters!
So to answer your question, I think it's almost as good as the others, only different. I'm embracing its differences.

With Feast, we get to learn a lot about Dorne, it's customs, various characters and their Houses, the whole nine yards. It's been a lot of fun, so far.
I respect and appreciate his willingness to go a different route, as it really makes the entire story all-encompassing. To do it any justice, I think it had to be written as it is. It was a big risk, though, most definitely, but a risk that pays off in the end, I think. I hope you love it!
Will you be starting soon?

currently reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower; Catch-22, which has many laugh out loud moments that make me forget some of the stupid crap; and also reading My Mother's Secret: A Novel Based on a True Holocaust Story. All are quite different, but enjoyable.

Enjoyed Atonement. Just finished Benediction by Kent Haruf. It was good, but I didn't love it as much as I did Plainsong.

I am reading the August Group Read The Autumn of the Patriarch at the moment but will finish that in the next couple of days. Will probably start Feast after that.

Oooh, how are you liking the August read?:) The Autumn of the Patriarch sounds amazing, as does Marquez's work in general! I've yet to read him, though I have been curious for several years now.

still reading Catch-22; which is annoying at times, and laugh-out-loud funny the next.

Wow! You adored love(d) this book!
Aside from the writing style, what other aspects of this book made it have such a profound impact on you? (Of course, w/o giving anything away...)
;))

This is great to hear, Terry! I'm interested in Ian McEwan's work, actually. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.:)

I am looking forward to it, Terry.:)

I am finding "The Other Typist" to be quite intriguing and am throughly enjoying the character development in "The Cuckoo's Calling".

Since when did you learn Cuckoo? :))
I'm not doing Cuckoo, and I'm still waiting for The Other Typist to arrive (since I type FAR too slowly...bad joke!). Also, have just rec'd another book for a small group read only yesterday.
More as all this develops...
You reading fool, you!
I need a distractions-away button so I can get caught up AND back on track! Either would do nicely...
Have a lovely one!

I actually like "The Other Typist" better than "Cuckoo", for what it is worth...

It was a 'feeling' I would like the 'Typist' over the other, but at the moment I can't remember why... Must be old age! Lol!
Must run many time consuming errands (ick)! I'll try to write more either this evening or Sat. Evening. ;~.}

"The Cuckoo's Calling". I don't care what anyone says, J K Rowling is a good writer! I came to love her her two main characters and thought the ending was great.

Really, Terry:
Don't be shy... How did you REALLY FEEL about the book? No sense in holding back your true opinion, esp if your worried what others might think! LOL!!!
Glad it ended up being worth the time. Moreover, you actually were impressed by the book, the writing & the characters!
Looking forward to your insightful in-depth review! (Just kidding...unless you feel like it)! Congrats on another good book now read! :))

I have had the book on the shelf for a bit and didn't notice two of the clubs I am in are currently reading The Cuckoo's Calling So I started yesterday.
I have read very little mystery, not because I don't like them it just seem the one people tell me about are always on book 26 or some such nonsense and I have this thing in me that wants to start at the first one and I got way to may books as is to do that.
That being said I am enjoying this read. I like the tempo and descriptions and enjoy the characters. Though if she goes up to book 26 and I am still reading I may punch myself =P

I just bought A Feast for Crowsyesterday, but haven't started it yet, because once I do, everything else will go out the window!

Fantastic! Takes a little while at first, to learn all of the characters, but then....you have many thousands of pages of fantastic storytelling and character development to look forward to. Your must start with the first book, and read the volumes consecutively. You will not regret the time you invested. Fair warning, based on my experience- once you are into the books, you will not want to read anything else at the same time. So if you usually have multiple books on the go-that may not happen once you enter the world of the Seven Kingdoms. I hope you love George R.R.Martin's work as much as I have. I just bought A Feast for Crows

Laurel, you are so right - the books I had been meaning to read started to pile up while I read book 1 & 2 of Game of Thrones.
I also wanted to watch the TV series for each season before I started the next book, so that made it take even longer. Now, I finished the 2nd book, but did not get a chance to watch the 2nd season and I have the 3rd book waiting to be read... meanwhile, I had to stop and read some other books because I found Game of Thrones so intense that I literally didn't want to talk about anything else while I was reading them.

So glad to hear that someone else had a similar experience! Makes me feel a little less "nerdy"! My husband hasn't read them or watched the tv show(I was lucky to see all of the seasons so far), and I am sure I drove him crazy trying to explain why I was so obsessed with these characters and world I had encountered. I found that I just wanted to talk to someone about everything...it was such an exciting and mindblowing time.

I tried to get my husband and 19 yr old son interested in watching the tv series with me - my son's a reader and I think he read most of the 1st book, but neither one of them are as obsessed about it as I am. My son watched part of a few episodes and my husband just rolled his eyes. oh well...

Hey, Dustin...
Hope the weekend made things seem more renewed today. At times, when I feel like I have to push in every direction I turn, often just letting go of what won't give, even for a short time, often is just what helps it to get better. I have my own ideas why that works, but most importantly, it just does...
I used to eat suspense & mystery novels like crazy, but got to the point where the scope of writers I would read was so big thus everything got to seeming too much the same. I pared down to a few faves and still will catch up with them occasionally.
Cat Daddy was totally worth all the cat advice (put into a slim 10 pg. booklet), the rest of this guy's story, though I could sympathize with his woes, I just couldn't relate mostly. Plus, the writing was very poor. I still enjoyed what I learned!
Hope this week is less taxing & more relaxing! Yeah...
