Now reading

I just finished The Passage, by Justin Cronin. I'm not sure what I'll get on next. The Passage

I'm currently reading The Great Gatsby and The End of Your Life Book Club.

I also just noticed that somehow I posted twice on this page. I don't know how I did that.

It was required reading in High School, then I read it again a few years ago and I have to say it wasn't my favorite classic, I didn't really get it, but I love that time period and I like F Scott Fitzgerald's other books, so I read the Clff Notes and have a better understanding of why he wrote the book and what is was saying, but I still don't really like any of the characters in it. Can't wait for the movie, though - I love that kind of over the top production, with beautiful costumes and a good soundtrack!

Nothing is holding my interst so far so I'm sad"
Aw, I'm very sorry to hear that, Julia..

This month (officially May) I am slated for 4 books, and I think 3 are Buddy reads.
Xone of Contention
The Book Thief
Ender's Game
Vampire Academy
I'm switching over to audio on Pillars because that way I can get work done around the house and still get a book in. Or at least, part of a book! ;)

I have never tried an audio book. How do they compare in price to the average e or kindle book?

Also, you go at the speed of the reader, not your own pace. Outlander took forever on audio. Quite a big book, too. Pillars is ~900 pages, so I imagine the audio will take some time. I like being able to work with my hands while I 'read' tho, so I like them.
Amazon has the ebook at $8. Audio is $32 for unabridged.

Thanks for all the info. I will have to give one a try. It might encourage me to do my daily walk, without procrastinating!

Both of those books are EXCELLENT!! I get so sad thinking that there will never be another book by Steig Larsson, though.

The Glimpses of the Moon by Edith Wharton.
I think she is the Jane Austen of the 1920's.
So witty and spot on about personalities. You feel as if you are sitting right there at someone's dinner party.

and write a review on it. The author of Gone Girl calls it "Mesmerizing". It just came in the mail today. I'll start it tonight. From the book cover, it looks like a mystery about a missing person in a small town where everyone knows everyone else's business(except of course where the missing woman is).

I'm currently in a bit of a situation cause I'm reading A Drink Before the War (ebook), Crossfire (audiobook) and Boulevard (dead tree book). I usually read one book at a time and the only times I read two is when I'm reading a fiction and a nonfiction. So three fiction is unusual, and I'm very confused! Haha. Gonna have to focus on one and come back to the others, I think!

I started this book because I've read John Grisham before and haven't been disappointed. Another reason is because this book is relatively short and between my full time job and my non-profit venture (writing) I haven't had a lot of time lately.

But, I've always wondered, does that count as reading when you listen to an audiobook?

This was a "First Reads" book sent to me and I was pleasantly surprised by the caliber of writing - I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who appreciates an intelligently written book.
"The Next Time You See Me" starts out as a kind of murder mystery, but it is really about the people in a small town and their interactions.
Excellent character development!! I love to really get to know the characters, their backgrounds and their incentives to act in a certain way. Holly Goddard Jones writes in such a compelling way that I found myself thinking about each character and the storyline during the day at work. I could hardly wait to start reading again at the end of the day, during my commute home. This author can make even subjects you may have little knowledge or interest into a fascinating study. It's not so much what happens, it's the how and why that makes this book a good read!

Terry wrote: "Hi Kyle, I am dying to start 11/22/63 next - I can't find it though!! I am definitely making my son clean his room this week because I think it is in there...."
Good luck in finding it, Terry. It's an excellent book!

It had better count! I don't see why it wouldn't count, as you are still ingesting the story.

Have also tentatively started Physics of the Future: How Science Will Shape Human Destiny and Our Daily Lives by the Year 2100 for the non-fiction challenge.
