Jon (jon17) | 372 comments Scarlet was fun. Recommended to all types of readers. It's the second book in a series so read book 1 first.

Cher, but the series isn't completed yet :(

Cherrelle Smith (spoonary) Yeah, good point Jon. When the series is finished then!

I'm about half way through Scarlet now after my short session this morning and seriously, I'm loving it.

Cherrelle Smith (spoonary) Jon wrote: "Cher, I thought you meant that we should discuss it only after the series is finished..."

Nah, what I meant was that we could do so when we had finished reading what was already released. Either way is fine with me :)

message 107: by Jon (new)

Jon (jon17) | 372 comments Then let's go for what you actually meant :)
We can discuss it via messages.

Cherrelle Smith (spoonary) Sounds great. I'll send you one when I've finished then (I'm over half way through Scarlet and I'll be reading some more tonight so it should be pretty soon).

Diane Dunn Just finished "Wicked Bugs", now I'm on to "Wicked Plants".

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Jeff wrote: "I'm reading South of Broad and enjoying it very much. Should be done soon"

Hi Jeff, I read "South of Broad" a few years ago and I wanted so badly to like it because I loved most of of Pat Conroy's other books and I enjoy reading about Charleston, but I don't think that was one of his better novels. I felt the whole storyline was not very plausible and kind of over the top. Also, the dialog seemed like he was trying too hard to be witty. I loved the descriptions of the historic houses in Charleston, though.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Just put "The Basement" on my to read list -- I'm convinced my basement is haunted too. Let me know how you like it.

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Oooh, that's what I like!

Pink and I are reading Girl Interrupted by by Susanna Kaysen. It was a short read and we have both already finished it. My thoughts on it are below:
My thoughts were I loved the story line and plot. I really liked all the characters and thought the actual hospital, doctor notes added flavor to the whole book. I liked the perspective from the patient, the girl herself.
The only problem I had was.. I wanted more information. It seemed to be too quick of a read for the story that it was. There has to be more info and happenings. I felt like the whole story was not told in a way. I am not sure how to rate this... I wish I could rate it 3 1/2 but can't. 4 is a bit high and 3 is too low..
I also wondered if our main character really had that severe of a mental issue...I know there were issues but that was a long time to be hospitalized. I guess that is why I thought the book should have been longer as she was in the hospital a long time. I did love the title!!!

Terry ~ Huntress of Erudition Hi Denisa,
I agree with you - I read "Girl Interrupted" a few years ago and I found it facinating, but I felt we were not given all the details of her isues to begin with. Perhaps because it was narrated by the main character, you only saw her side of the events leading up to her hospital stay. I didn't think it sounded like she should have been put in a mental hospital, but then, there are people in places like that that feel they don't belong there either.

message 128: by Pink (new)

Pink Yes I've been in between starting Gone or Divergent as I've heard so many good things about both and they're also group reads for me, it might have to be Divergent first I think!

I'm not really into the gruesome parts of the. gone series. That's the only thing I don't like.

message 135: by Ali (new)

Ali | 163 comments Gruesome doesn't usually bother me, but when the books are based on kids aged 15 and younger (common knowledge) it kind of disturbs me... But at the same time in some sadistic way it has me totally hooked.

Must. Know. What. Happens

It's well researched! At the end of each story are a few paragraphs about where the stories we know today came from and the changes in telling over the years by people like Hans Christian Anderson & others! V cool! Still in HB tho! Happy reading ; }
