Hi! I'm Sara L. Rose. At least for today.

Hi Sara, welcome to the group. As you probably know already this is a new group, so I'd really appreciate it if you could spread the word! :-)

Hi Anthony, welcome to the group. I'm not a big fan of Mills and Boons books myself but am willing to try anything too. :-)

Hi I'm Pete. New to this but read a lot, though not as widely as most on here. Hope to find out about new writers. Been watching more movies then reading books lately.

      * My name is Carolyn (pronounced Caro-line). :-)* I'm from the US; currently living in southwest Michigan
* I like coffee and books (preferably together); music, etc.
* Current favorite book is Leadership & Self Deception (hard book, but very good stuff). Currently looking for a new fiction book (spent a lot of time reading YA fiction which is fun but need something more stimulating).
* I am an Assistant Pastor of Administration and an administrator for a nonprofit. Reading is my outlet for relaxation. . . .

Hi Caroline, welcome to the group! I don't think anyone doesn't like coffee and books together! If your looking for a more stimulating fiction book you can ask other members of the group for their recommendations in the recommendation thread. :-)

Use to spend a few days every summer in St Joseph Michigan, in southwest, and found a great used bookstore in Niles Michigan. The bookstore is long gone I think, as so many used one are.
Your name (or what you'd like everyone to call you) Hugh though some have called me Mudge, and Mudgeon and Curmie and lived to tell the tale.Where you're from Maryland, USA now, but I was raised in North West Lousisana.
Your likes Wow, too many to count. I guess it would be exploratoin of new things, exploration of old things forgotton and trying to sort out how they fit together, if they ever do.
dislikes When somebody responds to me, verbally or in a post, and it's obvious that the entire time I was trying to make my point they were formulating why I was wrong, so they shoot it down before I'm done and never considered it.
Listening to something is not the same as agreeing with it, nor is taking the time to consider it before you speak or respond... it also might be called, practicing common courtesy.
Your favourite books Too many to count so I'll just go with "Fiction" and leave it at that. True life is boring and misleading. Nobody ever says all of what you need to hear in non-fiction...now fiction, from that we can learn so much of the truth....movies Also a moving target, but, in no particular order: The Fisher King, The Fighting 69th (James Cagne), Schindler's List and the original "The Thing." (even though I know the remake was better and more like the book.) ...songs- another moving target. I'm so eclectic in my musical tastes that the span of "genres" that I listen to and like is larger than the number of book and movie genres combined. I'm also picky... I like songs, not genres.
And any other interesting facts about yourself!- aside from being grumpy, I'm retired from the US Navy after 21 1/2 years and I work as a substance abuse counselor for the Navy Now. I'm also Narcoleptic and I was extremely dyslexic growing up (dyslexia is now called "Reading Disorder" which I think is very unfair. The fact we teach dyslexic kids how to read like everybody else, when all they need is a different approach should not require the lable "disorder." But that's me.)
I like the idea of an open group. I tend to come in, and lurk and watch, make a couple of comments and then decide if it's worth staying. :-)

Hi Hugh and welcome to the group! I generally enjoy fiction too and agree with you with how people respond sometimes. I hope you consider staying with us as we'd love to have you here.
Thanks,
Jack

  Thanks,

Yes I think the original "The Thing is fun to watch, and was exciting the first time I saw it. Still think it tells its story well, slow building menace.

And it's got that guy from the black and white movies who's always the perfect arogant scientist in it... James Arness (yes, the Gunsmoke Guy) plays the monster and Denver Pyle looking almost normal vice Moonshining' Redneck Uncle Jesse.
Your right, the tension is wonderfully built. And, it is a scary monster.
Nice smart military guys take care of situation . One thing I always like about fifties science fiction movies is the army showing up to blast away. My Favorite, "Them" which also starts as a good mystery as to what the monster is.
Hi, I'm Lucia. I'm new to goodreads and trying to read all the books I said I'd read someday.

Hi! My name is Christen and 25 years old. I like to read books and eating. My favorite book will always be the Harry Potter series. I work as a nurse and most of my salary goes to buying books. :)

Hi Christian, welcome to the group. I'm not that a big a fan of the "Harry Potter" series but I do like it. :-)

Hi All Sorts, my name is MJ and I'm from Toronto, Canada. I read fiction, non-fiction, sci-fi & fantasy. I guess a little bit of everything.
My favorite books are the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series.
I've been on Goodreads for about a year now but have only been using it to keep track of what I've been reading and thought it might be fun to join a book club.

Hi MJ, welcome to the group. It's great to have you with us. We have our polls for the monthly group read, movie and music if you'd like to get your vote in.
Thanks,
Jack

My name is Kevin but you could call me Omar.I'm from Detroit.
I like chocolate milk and I don't like candy bars with almonds in them.
My favorite books are The Count of Monte Cristo and The Journey to the West. My favorite movies are RoboCop and Tank Girl.
A couple interesting facts about me are that I like to play D&D 4th Edition and I can wiggle my ears.

Looks like a great group Jack. I've been looking for a nice Goodreads group to join. I like how you have a lot of different topics. My name is Lynn, I've been with my hubby for 32 years, have a 22 year old daughter. Love to read. Have been quite into the dystopian type novels lately but like all sorts of books. Am a sci-fi nerd. Love music (more into the heavy rock/metal than mainstream stuff). I live in Australia and I'm 49 years old. Pleased to meet you all.
Hey! This is Fatima form Pakistan and i just can't stand Harry Porter series, seems like some defect in me now:/

Hello Jack.Just recently found goodreads on the web, and came across your group today. Sounds like it will be a very interesting place.
I'm 62, married, have adopted my grandson (10 years old in April). Live in south Florida now. Grew up in the Detroit area, spent 20 years in Texas.
I enjoy photography and making artist trading cards, a sort of miniture collage.
Interests: anything dealing with the arctic or anarctic, American and Irish history, horror and ghost stories, stories about animals, especially dogs.
Love Cussler, Vince Flynn, Robert B Parker.

Hiya Michael. Welcome to the group, I think you're going to enjoy it. American and Irish history s a love of mine as well. Can't get my head out of the books! :-)

Hi Fatima :) I've seen and enjoyed all the Harry Potter movies but couldn't get into the books. Nice to meet you :)

Hi everyone. I've been on Goodreads for a while, but just now starting to catalog my books and explore the groups (and having a blast doing it!).I go by Peach, and I am in Montana, just north of Yellowstone. I like tea in just about every flavor imaginable and re-runs of Frasier. I don't like brussels sprouts. My favorites in books, movies, and music really defy definite genres as my taste varies so widely. My shelves contain a little of everything, though I do lean towards the classics, suspense/thrillers. Other interesting things...I was a professional ballroom dancer for 12 years and I live in a state with more wildlife than people :)
Hello, I'm Sophia! :) I'm a University student in Sydney, Australia, but I was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. I've only recently rediscovered the joy of reading after my sister encouraged me to read Harry Potter. I devoured the series in a matter of weeks and have been ploughing through a novel every few days since. Aside from Harry Potter, some of my other favourite books are The Hunger Games (all of them, but Mockingjay was my favourite) The Life of Pi, and Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers.

Hi Peach and welcome to the group!
My shelves are packed with a bit of everything too. Classics, thrillers, comedy... Wow, a ballroom dancer, I love ballroom dancing but don't do it myself. It's such a great style of dance that is appreciated so much around the world.

Hi Sophia, welcome to the group!
Olive read the Hunger Games series. I thought it was good overall but I enjoyed the first the best. I'm probably going to read Life of Pi soon so I'd love to know what you thought about it it. It's great to have you in our group so if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.
