Having read many of Roald Dahl's books such as James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Matilda and enjoying them, I thought I'd give The BFG a shot. This hilarious book about a friendly, vegetarian giant who eats nothing but disgusting snozzcumbers and only drinks frobscottle (unlike the other mean, human eating giants) literally made me laugh out loud. It was such an entertaining book, especially when I found out what happens when the BFG drinks the frobscottle! Did you know that in Giant Country, the bubbles go down instead of going up? Just take a guess what happens to you when you drink it?
As I am always thinking about new and creative ideas to teach my 4th and 5th grade students, I can't help but think that this book would be a wonderful tool in my classroom. I could use this novel for many things, such as teaching my students context clues when the giants are speaking "Giantspeak," or doing something creative, such as having them create their own dream jar and writing about why they added what they did to their jars. I feel like the possibilities are endless with this book. I also think that this would be a fun read-aloud to keep both sexes interested and entertained. As you can read, I absolutely loved this book.
