What is a prediction you have about your text? Why do you think that? Justify your idea using evidence from the text.

For a “4”: Did I….
• Write a topic sentence that provided the title, author, and genre of my text?
• Provide context of what is happening in the text, so my reader understands what I’m talking about?
• Find a direct quote from the text that proves my idea?
• Thoroughly explain the significance of my quote/how it proves my idea?
• Check for correct punctuation and spelling?

Ilijah A | 40 comments In my fiction book Lord Loss by Darren Shan, a prediction i have about my book is that, is Grubbs going to kill Lord Loss. The protagonist,Grubitsch or, Grubbs, is a teenage boy who's parent's and sister were killed by a demon named Lord Loss. Grubbs lives with his uncle who he believes might be a werewolf. The reason I predict Grubbs will try to kill Lord Loss is because Lord Loss ruined his life and because he did that I think Grubbs wants to kill him because of that. "One final chance, Grubitsch"(186). This quote shows that Lord Loss is saying he has one more chance. Grubbs has one more chance to do something, but Grubbs does not want listen to what he says and is very angry and furious.

Andy Chen | 44 comments In Daniel Keyes science fiction novel, Flowers for Algernon, Charlie Gordon is a 32 year-old male that is mentally retarded. He had enough of not being normal and thought he was useful for being test out to become a genius and have a high IQ. Charlie's scientist, Dr. Steuss, stated,"Charlie, you will be tested in a machine no other person have been used, but only the animals. You will be the first to try and we will see if you will pass or not. This text made me predict Charlie passed the test and became a genius, along with a high IQ because it didn't make sense to me that from beginning to end of the book, Charlie was still retarded. He has to accomplish something that he dreamed of being or doing. So, being normal and smart is Charlie's dream, and this is probably one of the biggest accomplishments Charlie achieved, with the help of Dr. Steuss and other assistants. Therefore, this is why I think this quote/text made me predict this moment.

Aaron | 29 comments In Kathleen Krull's non-fiction book, Lives of the Musicians in on of the text which was about Nadia Boulanger that when she was younger she hated music she couldn't stand it, it would make her cry or hide under the piano. Would I predict is that when she gets older she will start to have a felling for music which would be love. I predict this because in the passage it says that to force her to develop good posture, her mother which was her perfessional teacher tied her to chairs when she was a baby. By thirteen, Nadia was performing on the organ and piano, and at seventeen she began teaching, supervising her younger sister Lili's education. Therefore my prediction was correct when Nadia became older she started to love music all thanks to the help of her mother.

Zoe | 25 comments In Farley Mowat's nonfiction novel Never Cry Wolf, one prediction I have about the novel is that one of the wolves will die of a disease. In the novel, Farley is a naturalist that is sent to the Arctic to study wolves. He is trying to find out why the wolves are killing Arctic caribou, so he rides a plane near the Arctic so he can go and study them for a year. Farley finds out that the wolves aren't killing all the caribou, and it is mainly humans that are killing them. "I explained that this was the inactive form of a tapeworm, and that, if eaten by a carnivore, it would eventually develop into several segmented creatures about thirty feet in length"(206). Farley also explained that it can also kill some animals. This is why i think that one of the wolves might die, because part of their diet is caribou.

Wesley | 50 comments In J.K Rowling's fantasy novel, Harry potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, a prediction I would make is Harry Potter will be the most important person in this novel. He is at Hogwarts and he is well know. Everyone knows him as the boy who lived. He is in the Gryfindor house where all of the famous good people go. He is chosen and when he walks between classes the students whisper " Wearing those glasses? Did you see his face? Did you see his scar?"(131). Everyone knows him. This quote shows how they know him for his scar. The scar is the mark that Lord Voldemort left on him when he tried to kill him. He is popular because he survived an attack from the world's dangerous magician. And knowing that he survived, he must be a target for surviving the unsurvivable. Therefore I think Harry will become very important in the future.

Sydney Mok (SydneyMok) | 43 comments In the realistic fiction book I Will Save You by Matt De La Pena, I predict that the protagonist Kidd is going to tell the story of how Devon ( his ex best friend) used to be when they were best friend and how he changed. In the beginning of the book, Kidd kills Devon by pushing Devon off a cliff which killed him and making Kidd end up in jail. He did this because he saw Devon kissing Olivia, a girl he really liked. Kidd knew that Devon was going to hurt her or do something so Kidd did this to protect the girl he loved. " They probably think I was evil for what I did to my best friend. Everybody probably did. Even Olivia. But they didn't know Devon" (13). This quote makes me think that since Kidd said they didn't know Devon, he's probably going to explain what he's like and how they used to be best friends. But since Kidd killed Devon, it shows that something bad happened between them to ruin their friendship. This is why I think in the book Kidd is going to tell how Devon used to be his best friend.

Bryan | 41 comments In Peter Moores realistic fiction book, Blind Sighted, one prediction that I have about my book is that Kirks world may go completely up side down. In the book Kirks mom is at California, and when she got back from Los Vegas with her friend named Hal, they got married, and that part made Kirk feel all dizzy and tried to find something to keep him up. " 'Hal and I just got to Las Vegas where you won't believe what happened. We got married.' That was the part where I got dizzy and had to find something to hold me up"(157). This shows that Kirks whole entire world was about to get fliped up side down because he didn't seem all that thrilled when he heard the news, but I'm pretty sure that he's happy for his mom.

Jamilah B | 37 comments In Jeff Kinney's realistic fiction novel, Diary of a wimpy kid: The Third Wheel, I predict that Greg will find a date to the dance and they will start liking each other. I think this because nothing ever good happens to Greg, and in all the other books, he talks a lot about girls, so I think he's finally going to find the right one."...i need a wing man to look good in front of girls so its easier to ask one out"(122). This quote shows that Greg really needed a girl to go to the valentines dance with, but can't do it on his own. Therefore I think Greg will finally have a date to the dance.

Yamil Cifuentes | 40 comments In Steve Augarde's fiction book, X-isle, I predict that the protagonist and his family will survive because there is always a happy ending in the end, sometimes. A flood occured on the protagonist's hometown. Some people escaped on a boat and head to X-isle. The protagonist predicts that he will make it to saftey. The protagonist states, "I will make it to X-isle and nobody will die!" This quote shows that he knows he is gonna make it saftey.

Corey | 43 comments In Harvey Rosenfield non-fiction novel, Iron Man, one predication that I can make is that Cal Ripken Jr is going to start to hit well. Cal has been struggling at games when he is at bat. He does have so good games but mostly bad games. Around 1980s he goes on a hitting streak. Then he starts hitting home runs. " In 1 game i went 4-4 with 3 RBIs and a solo homerun," I think this improves that he is starting to get better and better. He is better then he was before. Therefore, I can Predict that he is going to do better in his future and hitting better.

Gabby T. | 22 comments In Verionica Roth's dystopian novel Divergent one prediction I would make about it is that Tris the protagnist is going to end up faction-less.Tris lives n a post-apacalytic world were almost everyone is divided in factions. There are five faction each faction focuses on one core value.Edruite which foucuses on knowledge, Abgenation which foucuses on selfless-ness,Amity which focuses on peace, Candor which focuses on Ingellience and Dauntless which focuses on bravery. On someone 16 birthday they get to choose there on faction they either stay into the one that they are born into or they leave to go to another one.Tris is born into Abgenation but she belives that she dose not fit in because she is selfish. During the intation she left abgenation and went and went to dauntless.Although she went to dauntless she found out that in the faction they are only 10 spots and 20 people that are fighting for a space. The people who fail become faction-less people who are faction-less are poor and live bad lives. I belive that Tris will become faction-less because during round one of the ination process she has to fight a boy named peter and gives up easly. Tris says "the only promblem is that my rank is terrible and I might be faction-less by the end on stage one"(125.)This shows that she even belives that she not going to make it threw the ination-process and also she ranks terrible so she would get overlooked and people with higher ranks would get picked.

Kenjo | 41 comments In Timothy Dalrymple's non fiction biography, The Reason For Linsanity, a prediction I would make is that Lin would eventually build up enough courage and strength to perform in the NBA without achieving low stats. Jeremy Lin has grown up playing basketball with his dad, high school and now in the NBA D-League. He had tried playing with Golden State Warriors for several games but often found more success in the D-League rather than the NBA. This was most likely because he had no experience playing basketball in front of a large crowd and stronger, faster players. A quote Lin had stated during the rough transition was, "I had thoughts of giving up on basketball for a while and just taking a break from it. The game had turned fun into pressure for me." This quote shows that Lin was on the verge of breaking down and quitting basketball because something was preventing him from succeeding. During the same chapter Lin had also said something about trying harder and working more instead of quitting which is what therefore made me come up with the prediction.

Happy Families

In Tanita S. Davis' realistic fiction novel ,Happy Families, I predict that Ysabel that she wants to be know as a famous jewelry designer. I think that because in the text, she was selling jewelry that she made herself at the festival. Ysabel is a 15 year old girl that has a twin brother named Justin, and wants a scholarships from a college that would pick her for her grades she has. "By the time the day is over, I've sold all but five necklaces, made thirty good beads at my station...'' (7). This quote shows that Ysabel sold her five necklaces that she made and showing that she was to be a famous jewelry designer. Therefore, I predicted that Ysabel will keep working on her jewelry until she will accomplish her goal to be a jewelry designer.
