<Please post your questions here>

I've been having issues with GR notifications, so I'm creating a specific thread for questions. This way I can check one spot regularly to answer everyone's questions throughout the game.

The rules make perfect sense in my head, but might not make sense for everyone else. So, please do not hesitate to ask any questions. I appreciate your understanding as we work through any growing pains we have along the way. :D

Judithe | 6566 comments Nice idea! (And so get the GR notification frustration!)

~Melissa~ | 1616 comments Ok ~ first question.
Do we have a week to read our chosen color or is this a read as quick as you can to get the next color kind of game?? Thanks

Amy ~Lover of Books~ | 400 comments Is there a limit on how many pages a book can be? Like for instance, I'm currently in another team challenge in another group and our limit is to find books that are over 200 pages and more.

message 5: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Steph - Can you clarify how we're moving across the board? It seems to me it can be done in either of two ways:

1. We move by color numbers. Example:
First move: We got a 4 = Yellow so we move to square #4.
Second move: We got a 2 = Blue so we move to the next blue square which is #8

2. We move by advancing numbers. Example:
First move: We got a 4 so we move to square #4 which is yellow.
Second move: We got a 2 so we move to square #6 which is orange.

I *think* the first way is the correct one but can you please confirm? As you can see, you get different results depending on the way so I think it's good we're all clear before we start!

Good question, and one that was raised on the sign-up thread, so will post the link here, too. Steph also explained some about color choices, etc.

"Books used during the challenge must be over 200 pages."

Another link, regarding game progress (link here)

Steph says: On Sunday, each team captain will draw a card @ Random.org {use this exact link} and share the card with their team. Each team member will then choose a book and share their choice with the group. The book choice will depend on where on the board the team lands that week (ie: a colored spot, a fantasy forward, etc). Assuming each team member has successfully shared their read date, rating and review for their chosen book, the team will continue on by moving along the board each Sunday until we have a winner.

So, as long as all the teammates read, review and rate their books before Sunday, the team will move to a new square. If not, the team must wait until the next Sunday...good luck and read fast!

message 8: by Judithe, Soap Operas never end.... (new)

Judithe | 6566 comments FYI, these are things that came up on the other thread in discussion, and Steph clarified them there, before opening this thread. BUT, they're in between lots of other posts...thanks for asking again! Good way to reference these all in one place!

message 9: by D.G. (last edited Jan 23, 2013 12:51PM) (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Another question...do we have to use the EXACT cover our book has or are we OK using alternates?

For instance, let's say I read this book A Pocket Full of Rye A Miss Marple Mystery by Agatha Christie - this is the audio version but it really doesn't work because with any of the colors. So could I submit this cover which works for green? A Pocket Full Of Rye by Agatha Christie

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Hi, everyone! Ok, I think Judithe answered all questions up to DG's post in message 9. If not, just repost and one of us will answer it for ya.

COVER COLORS: I'm fine w/people using alternate cover colors. If you know that the book you want to read has different colored alternate covers and one fits feel free to use it.

SUNDAY DRAWINGS: I'd like to keep it Sunday JP time, just to stay consistent with all of our previous team challenges. If you'd like, I can post a 'Ready, Set, Go!' post for our first week so that everyone has a time reference of when to draw each week. Would that be helpful? There will be some variance between teams, I'm guessing, since everyone will not be online at the exact same moment. That's fine. I envision it working this way ... All captains draw a card for their team on Sunday JP-time (let's say 9am JST for this example). The captain notes the time in their time zone and draws around the same time each week. Each team will be able to predict the time (or general time) when their team captain will be posting their move for the week.

TEAM MOVEMENTS: I numbered the spots on the board after I'd created the rules for moving around the board. I numbered them mainly so that it would be easier for each team captain to state where on the board their team had landed.

For now, I'd like to stick with my original way for moving around the board and see how it works out. If there's too much confusion (ADD moment ... heard Jimi singing in my head ...) we can try using the numbers in a future round. I've selected specific cards in the Random.com shuffler, so please use the exact link that is posted when drawing a card for your team.

To move around the board, please refer to the board movement reference page. If you draw an Ace (red), 2 (blue), 3 (green), 4 (yellow), 5 (purple), 6 (orange) you will move to the first spot closest to your current location with that color. If you draw a King ♠ (book fantasy frwd), Queen ♣ (wing f/frwd), Jack ♦ (bloody bite f/frwd), 10 ♥ (heard f/frwd), Black Joker (skull f/f) or Red Joker (bat f/f), you will move to that fantasy forward spot. The fantasy forwards are one-time-use only and can only be used if they are ahead of your current position on the board. We will not be moving backwards during the game.

Let's say the following are the first three movements for my team:
Week 1 - draw a 3/green , so we move to the first green spot, which happens to also be #3.
Week 2 - draw a Q♥, there is no move for this card, so our captain must draw again*. Draw a 5/purple, so we move to the first purple spot, which is spot #5.
Week 3 - draw a 4/yellow, so we move to the first yellow spot, which is spot #10.

With each movement, our captain will (1) share the draw with the team so everyone can choose a book and (2) share the team's board movement on this thread, so that everyone can see where each team is on the board.

Does that make sense or confuse everyone? Hopefully it will be like BSB and be easier to play than to explain. ;)

* NOTE: When choosing which cards to be included in the Random.com shuffler, I had to include all high cards for each suit. So, occasionally, you may draw a card that is not listed on the reference/movement sheet. When this happens, please draw again.

Hi, Catherine! Thanks for your interest! Sorry, but we've closed sign-ups for this round. You're welcome to join us in a future round though.

message 15: by D.G. (new)

D.G. | 2752 comments Thanks for clarifying the movement, Steph. It was exactly as I thought. :)

I like the idea of a Ready, Set, Go for the first week.

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Thanks for the feedback, DG! :)

I can definitely do that, if it'd be a help to get us going.

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments Teams, please post your chosen team name and captain on this thread, once determined, and we'll update your team thread and info. Thanks! :D

I have a question :)

Once all the reviews are in form your team what thread do you post the reviews in? Gameboard and Team Movement? or will there be a separate thread for reviews?

Per the rules: (Emphasis mine.)

» If your team draws one of the six fantasy forward cards, your team jumps ahead to that spot on the board and each team member may read any book of their choice that week.

If all captains could please post, on their team thread, a link to their teammates reviews along with the read dates and ratings for each move that'd be great! You're welcome to look through archived Bookshelf Bingo team threads to see how that was done in the past.

I'll be opening the board thread later today for new posts. Once everyone on your team has read, rated and reviewed their book for the week, please share your team's progress to include the color and # of the spot your team is currently occupying on the board.

Hope that makes sense. If we run into any problems/confusion along the way, we'll work it out. :D

Gotcha! Updated your thread. :)

Belinda wrote: "Hi steph

Yes, that's fine, Belinda. I'll post the GO! announcement sometime between 6-9a on Sunday, my time. I'm doing that simply as a way to give everyone a reference point for drawing each week. Anytime around that is fine. We don't want teams drawing a day before everyone else, but a few hours + or - shouldn't be a big deal. At least not until or unless there's a race to the finish line. :)

If anyone is upset by that idea, please let me know now. I don't want anyone festering over it. We will do what we can to make it as fair as possible for everyone no matter your time zone. Please remember, it is just a game and the best parts of the game are to have fun, meet new people and find great, new books to read.

Steph (angel4492) | 32697 comments No worries, Belinda. I understood you to meant it'd just be the first go. I was speaking more generally, to everyone, not just you. I don't want anyone to be upset about the timing of team movements, if it can be helped.
