Happy Pi Day!

Aw shucks...Happy Pi Day for me will be winning some money at the trivia finals tonight.
Failing that, pie.
My daughter, the physics teacher, told me about Pi Day on Wednesday. She said she has to make a shepherd's pie or a pot pie for dinner tonight. Her husband gave up dessert for Lent (I don't understand that, they're Lutheran>) and so their pie has to be a main dish one.
Oh, we Lutherans do observe Lent. It's just not in our tradition to give something up for it. Martin Luther was pretty adamant about that because sacrificing for Lent isn't biblically based.
Oh, really? I don't know a whole lot about Lutheran tradition, but I do know my mother-in-law gives up chocolate. Maybe it depends which synod you belong to?
I think some give stuff up because it's a good excuse to give things up. My daughter's best friend is Jewish and she always gives up something (usually something fattening) for Lent. I asked my daughter about her husband and she said that he's just doing it because he needs to pass on dessert for a while.
I always have extra stuff for Lent to make up for all those not lending their purchasing power toward our struggling economic times. :P i.e. It's an excuse to eat more chocolate & pie. PIE! (Actually, I prefer cheesecake or mousse)Yea, it's something to help push me on to sainthood.
My godchild's parents are Lutheran (one of the more liberal synods, I think...they have a lot of gay/lesbian people in their congregation) and they gave up meat for lent. I only know because he told me when he hit me up for vegetarian recipes.
