Okay, there are a few left off and a few added that had my head scratching. First I am old {57 in a few weeks} and have read my whole life.
major omissions: Mark Twain's Huck Finn, Sentimental Education by Flubert , Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, GRRM's A Game of Thrones , James M Cain's Double Indemnity, Raymond Chandler's Big Sleep and finally All the Pretty Horses by Cormac McCarthy.
As for those who made the list but I would have left off, I will keep to myself.

N | 104 comments I'd like to see this list updated with children's books separate and Authors (Austen/Dickens) grouped as one entry (like Pullman/Rowling/Shakespeare are). It took my about 8 months to read the books on this list I had managed to miss and that was two years ago, I'd like to see some extra books added to it like Dymocks do here in Australia on there 101 club, it's a great way to enjoy the classics but also find great new indie books that haven't gone mainstream yet. I had the misfortune to buy a few 'bestsellers' that were on special last week and urgh they were just turgid.
