Well said Betsy....besides just because it's a classic to someone else does not make it one to you...everyone has individual tastes in entertainment. Not just reading, but movies and music too.

I notice whenever I do one of these lists just how many books I studied at school. We must have done 4-6 classic titles a year, plus at least 2 Shakespeare, and a long recommended reading list at A level.

I agree it's the same thing with #33 Chronicles of Narnia and #36 The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. The latter is the 2nd book in the chronicles.

It's an interesting list. I've read 26 of them, although there are also one or two here I started and then gave up on. One of the things which strikes me about the list is that there are a lot of books here which one might read at a certain time of life, i.e. as a child or a teen. If the title was not read at this time, the moment may well just be missed. Certainly, as a childless adult, I have no real interest in revisiting things written for a younger audience - although I do accept that MANY other readers feel differently.
But I do find it strange that the BBC would make such a claim.

Of Mice and Men
Read all of them in school so whether or not I liked them is irrelevant considering I was merely reading it to be done with it. Also a project came after so I can't say I enjoyed them, although I have taken some lessons from them.
