Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I'm trying to set up a Goodreads giveaway for the paperback of my latest book and need to add the paperback edition to Goodreads, but I can't see how to do it. Could someone with librarian privs. add it for me?

Curiously, when went to add the book this topic is about (in this thread) it came up with an edition with the right ISBN, but I can't see any other editions when I view the book. I did change it from ASIN to ISBN earlier then changed it back, so perhaps it's go something to do with that.

Anyway... If you can help with this, that would be great. I just need the paperback edition set up and combined with the existing Kindle edition. The ISBN13 is 9781782991038. Publisher web address is http://www.feedaread.com/books/The-La...

Thank you! :o)

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments I just clicked in the above book image and it shows, so I must have added it (somehow). Looks like it just needs to be combined and I don't have the privs.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Actually adding a book and other issues need to go in librarians group at http://www.goodreads.com/group/show/220 ; the first author FAQ thread says preferred info. You can post there to get editions combined.

That's the only group where a few hundred librarians hanging out at once = <15 minutes response unless additional data/explanation of issue needed. Plus helpful to keep all the issues in one place.

(I got the impression they rather frown on "personal" or "group" librarians versus posts in librarians group or librarians spotting and correcting items on their own; not from a simple request like "add my book" but from other experiences)

Hi Jackie. There have been a few discussions about POD services. I found this one, which has lots of info. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/7...

Hope it helps. :o)

Oh dear, I'm not part of any librarian groups...

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Thanks for the info Debbie. I didn't realise.

Jud, I don't want to get you told off, but I think I just need a librarian such as yourself to click on the book image above and combine that paperback edition with the existing Kindle edition.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Okie doke. I can do that :o)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I think you've added a completely new book rather than an alternative edition of the same book... Still looking into it.

That wouldn't surprise me. I'm surprised it created it though as it said it couldn't at the time - and there it was. If that's the case it can be deleted. It does just need the paperback edition adding and combining.

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Aha! You have added it to the wrong Steve Robinson, don't you know who you are?

message 12: by Steve (new) - added it

Steve Robinson (steverobinson) | 2926 comments Huh? That's what it told me I couldn't do, which confused me. Maybe I added myself twice when I originally set myself up. Strange how it went ahead and added it anyway. I'm rubbish at this aren't I?

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Linked it to you and combined the 2 editions, you're all set :o)

Leave it to the professionals next time, eh?

And for future reference you are Steve__Robinson not Steve_Robinson. You have 2 spaces between your names.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Super Jud to the rescue once again!

I actually work with someone called Steve Robinson and he often gets his own name wrong.

Jud, I've said it before, but I'll say it again. You're a sooper-dooper-trooper!!! Okay, I haven't actually said that before. :o) You just won a whole bag of Percy Pigs!

I think I will leave off trying to set my own things up on Goodreads. I always get it wrong. Mind you, how am I supposed to get my name right when the difference is invisible? That other guy is me anyway. I recall the confusion when I first joined and wondered where I'd gone.

I bet he doesn't have two spaces between names though.

Is there some rule that librarians have to join a group?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not that I've ever seen anywhere, Karen.

Certainly can't remember seeing anything about it in the librarian handbook.

I am a member of a librarian group but I never look at it.

Mind you, I also have no idea how to do any librarian stuff. ;)
