Have you ever wondered who was truly responsible for Voldemort "going bad?" Arguably, there are many possible causes of his later actions. What do you think? Why?

Kathy | 905 comments I think it was a build-up of his awful childhood and maybe he was surrounded by bad influences too.

Gabriella (gmargarita) It had much to do with the circumstances under which he was conceived, did it not? He was conceived under the effects of a Love Potion--"fake love". Because of this he himself could not love or feel true emotion. I don't think it had much to do with what he was exposed to growing up, as when Dumbledore visited him in the orphanage he was already too far gone. He was maiming and killing animals and frightening other children in disturbing ways, classic warning signs of a sociopath. I don't think he ever "went bad"-- he was simply bad from the start.
