Question (Confused)

I am a little confused. When/Where does it mention Denna being raped? My husband is reading The Wise Man's Fear and about 2/3 of the way through. He has not seen anything referring to this and I don't remember it ever being mentioned. Is it something that is assumed by some readers based on her encounter with the girl in Severen? I took that conversation in a completely different direction if that is where the reference is.

Just confused and trying to get some clarification...

There's no evidence in the text that Denna has ever had non-consensual sex and it's only implied once that she's active at all.

Kvothe has a memory of witnessing a young boy being assaulted in Tarbean while he did nothing to help. The passage is commonly interpreted as a sexual assault due to the description.

Yeah, there's no mention of her being raped at all. The severen conversation just made me think she'd been in that situation herself.

I never even took that specific moment Kvothe witnessed as a rape either. I'll have to give that a look over again I guess.

I always pictured it along the lines of what happened to him with his fathers lute and the encounter he had with the officer in Hillside....

I was discussing this with the boyfriend last night and he brought a scene to my attention I totally missed in regards to Kvothe being raped, or nearly raped.

It's during the scene when he is about to call Felurian's name, he has a flash back to a time in Tarbean where some men find him and cut his clothes off. Kvothe breaks his own arm to escape as well as biting off one attackers fingers and killing another. (Well, seems like he kills his ass.) I totally didn't remember it, it was super crazy to read. (IMO)

Yeah, I remember that, was a pretty horrific read. Wouldn't wanna be an orphan in Tarbean :(

Yah, apperantly it was so traumatic I blocked it out LOL.

And I agree, I wouldn't really want to be an orphan at all though. I mean, no offense to anyone who is an orphan, but seems scary having no one to fall back on.
