Title: Fix by Force
Author: Jason Warne
Genre: YA (realistic fiction)
Pages 188
Synopsis:
Spencer views life as a script—one that he never wanted to follow.
As the son of the town's most resented people, he feels trapped, cast in the role of the loser just like his father, who died when Spencer was eight.
After years of failed attempts at fitting in or changing himself, Spencer, now in his senior year of high school, decides that his only chance of rewriting life's script is to graduate and leave town forever.
But after enduring a brutal accident at school and discovering some deeply guarded family secrets, Spencer reacts out of fear and desperation, causing him to be expelled from school and forced into a reform school in the city.
It is there with the worst high-school offenders that the need for a new plan is born, and Spencer starts using steroids as a last ditch attempt at “fixing himself” and curing all of the things that are wrong in his life.
But as the steroids wreak havoc on his body and relationships, Spencer must ask himself if his plan is really working, and if “being fixed” is worth all of the destruction that comes with it.
