Rooftop

[Fenestra]

The twins follow after, shuffling up the stairs. The two look around. "Shit."

[Vrosevear]

"A dead end. Exciting." Dare took in a breath of fresh air.

"There's a ladder," Kara supplied unhelpfully, pointing to the object clearly out of reach.

[Fenestra]

"We could try again." Jack mumbled.

"We've never used it more than once in a day though." Arden shuffled her feet anxiously.

Crimson didnt want to look up at his face. She realized he cared...he cared all too much and she couldn't get attached. She would never get attached,"I don't remember." Crimson said with passive indifference,rubbing her black and blue wrists instead if making eye contact.

[Vrosevear]

"I don't think that's a solution!" Dare yelled, his eyes wide as saucers. He rushed to the edge of the roof, staring down in horror at Oswin.

[Fenestra]

"Oswin!" Arden pulled away from Jack, rushing to the edge of the roof.

"Oswin!" Kara shrieked, staring after the a girl with a frenzied look about her face, her eyes wide and her mouth in a small 'O'.

[Fenestra]

Arden's hands clutched at the wall surrounding the rooftop, eyes wide. Jack...

She knew what she was doing, Ari...

Crimson quickly pulled her wrists back and her impassivity soon grew into irritation. Why did he care about so damn much? "Grant I'm fi-" She started to snap at him but she saw something out of the corner of her eye and turned her head just in time to see Oswin jump off the edge,"What the hell?! Bitch think she can fly?!"

[Vrosevear]

Dare swallowed, forcing himself to stop staring at the girl below. There was now a violent banging at the door to the stairwell. Dare hurried over and changed the combination of the lock, snickering at the yelling coming from beyond the door. "Not to, uh, rush you... but uh, we've got visitors!" he called to Oswin once he reached the edge of the roof again.

[Fenestra]

"We could have done it, Oswin..." Arden seemed like she could have cried. "You don't have to be the hero all the time, quit hurting yourself..."

[Fenestra]

"She's never injured herself to that extent before. Do you know how many bones she's having to repair right now?" Arden backed closer to Jack.

[Fenestra]

"Kara, go first." Jack nodded to the girl.

[Vrosevear]

"Everyone go, I'll keep changing the lock so they can't get to you." He ran over to the door. "I'll meet you down there!"

Kara bit her lip and looked to Jack, her eyes wide. She looked to the ladder and then at Oswin below. There was so much blood... She'd never seen so much blood, until today. Fighting the urge to cry, she moved to the ladder and slowly started to climb down.

"You know I think I'm fine now!" Crimson snapped trying to lift herself up out of his arms but even that much exertion sent a pang through her chest, blurring up her vision,"Goddammit." She whispered under her breath.

[Vrosevear]

Dare clenched his teeth, now resorting to merely leaning against the door as the penitentiary's guards beat at it. They were going to knock it down with sheer strength at this rate, the lock was pointless now.

Kara nodded, still biting her top lip, and shortly reached the bottom. She ran to Oswin and gently touched her face, afraid she would break her if she hugged her.

[Fenestra]

Jack and Ari quickly slid down the sides of the ladder, one after another and jumped off. "Oswin did everything heal properly?"

[Vrosevear]

"An entire body works too," Dare said, grinning at Nate. Marc joined them as the door slammed into the back of his head and the guards broke through the lock. He grit his teeth, attempting to keep them stuck in the stairwell for as long as he could.

[Vrosevear]

Dare grit his teeth. "We run."

Crimson wobbled a bit but did her best to maintain her stance,"Fine." She growled. She rubbed a clammy hand against her forehead, trying to clear her head of the cloudiness. At any point she felt she could faint but she was done taking help for the day.

[Vrosevear]

"You guys just can't just sacrifice yourselves," Dare said, although he knew there was nothing else he could do to help. "So you better live through this." With that said, he gave them both a determined nod and bolted towards the ladder.

"If I hug you, will you break again?" Kara's face was completely serious as she questioned Oswin.

[Vrosevear]

Dare descended the latter as quickly as he could manage, jumping off when he was about five feet from the ground. He frowned deeply, staring up at the roof. "Come on, kid."

[Fenestra]

"Come on!" Arden shouted up to them. Jack took her hand again as she covered her mouth.

Kara smiled gleefully and promptly wrapped the older girl in the most affectionate but gentle hug she could.

[Vrosevear]

"Hurry up!" Dare yelled at the younger boys.

[Vrosevear]

Dare sighed, rolling his eyes and violently yanked the ladder away from the building, guilt surging through him. He ignored Grant for now.

"Yes. Yes. I am." Kara looked up at Oswin, her big sister, and gave her a comforting smile. "I'm glad you're okay. Please don't do that again."

[Vrosevear]

Dare ran his hands through his hair, yanking on the ends of it. "Oh my god, what are we doing with our lives?"

[Vrosevear]

[Fenestra]

"Jesus, Marc, you could have died!" Arden fussed, much to Jack's displeasure.

[Vrosevear]

"We need to get out of here," Dare said. His body was full of adrenaline, he needed to keep moving, they all did.

[Fenestra]

"Somewhere else!" The twins mumbled.

Crimson grimaced from the pain of her tightening chest but still managed to speak,"Yea,one problem. We got zero cash."

[Vrosevear]

"Let's not stall." Dare started jogging away from the building, knowing the others would follow eventually. The guards would be bursting out of the entrance to the penitentiary any second now and they couldn't get caught. Not after everything they'd just been through.

[Vrosevear]

"I'm sure I can," Dare said nonchalantly, shrugging. He wondered if his moral compass was stronger before he'd had his memory wiped.

Crimson shot him a look but the pain in her chest was unbearable,"Just letting you know..I'm gonna kill you when I don't feel like complete shit anymore." Which was basically her sweet way of saying yes.

Rather than ask, Kara used the penitentiary's internet (she'd hacked it long ago) to look up the word 'cash'. noun. Money in any form, especially that which is immediately available.
