Shan (shanschubert) | 1 comments Thank you so much for the invitation to join your group! My name is Shandell but I usually go by Shan (the only time I ever heard my full name was when I was in troube at school or at home lol) I read a real assortment of genres but always find my way back to my true crime and mystery books.

I would love to learn a little more about all of you as well!

I'm married -16 years to a wonderful man who is also my best friend. We have four children - son:18, daughter:17, son:14, and daughter:12. We are transplants to Bryan having moved here a little over 2 years ago, and Bryan is different I can say that mich. But then again when you lived in a small towm of less than 4,000 people and everyone knew everyone, It definitely is a big change and I think we are all adjusting pretty well.

So, I've rambled on and on here and now I'm passing the baton I'd love to hear more about all of you.

Have a wonderful day!
Shan

Welcome Shan! I am new to Bryan as well. I moved here about 5 months ago and have lived all over the United States. I work at Texas A&M and absolutely LOVE my job. I have three dogs and a boyfriend! (He probably wouldn't like the order that came in...)
I love ALL kinds of books. I'm not sure I can pick one favorite genre, but I read a lot of memoirs and biographies. (I should have been a shrink!)
Anyway, it's great to have you and please feel free to invite anyone else you think would be interested!!

Have a great (warm and dry) weekend,
Beth

Joy Marie Hi guys! I moved to Bryan a year and a half ago. I work as a nurse in the ICU at St. Joe's. I live with my boyfriend and 2 great danes. When I was younger, I would mostly read horror/thriller books like Stephen King and Anne Rice...however, I am now trying to branch out into all genres to expand my knowledge. I can't wait to get to know everyone else better.

Beth, what are the plans for this group? Will we be choosing books to read and discuss or will it be book challenges...just curious....can't wait to get started.

Have a great evening,
Joy

message 4: by Rondi (new)

Rondi | 4 comments Hi all! Glad to be invited. My names is Rondi (pronounced Rhonda) go figure, mom can't spell! LOL.
I moved to Bryan in 1994 after marrying an Aggie. I'm originally from the Lubbock area, go RAIDERS!
I'm a nurse also, although I put it on hiatus 4 yrs ago. I worked on 2 north, (JOY) you'll recognize that, for 2 yrs then in the PACU for 4. After that I transferred to The Physican's Center and ran the PACU there for 5 years. I have 2 boys 10 and 6. I really like historical novels, but really like several genres. Love the Harry Potter, Twilight craze. Don't really do romances or westerns. Some of my favorite books are Water for Elephants, Lovely Bones, Middlesex, The Other Bolyn Girl, IN Harm's Way, I could keep going.
Currently reading HOST, by Stephanie Meyer. Haven't read something this SCI FI in a while, but it's getting gooood.
What is a book challenge? My only hang up will be that I'm a bit slow!

message 5: by Joy Marie (new)

Joy Marie Hi again everyone. Rondi, to answer your question, a book challenge is something easy like reading 50 books in one year. It can also be harder, like a book scavenger hunt, where you have a list of requirements and you have to find books that fit each of the requirements. For example, "read a book by an author that was born in the month of May," and "read a book that has a color as a part of the title." Hope this helps.
Joy

message 6: by Pam (new)

Pam | 4 comments Hi everyone! I'm a nurse and work at St. Joe's in the ICU (with Joy). My husband and I moved here about 2 years ago.

I love all kinds of books! I usually get hung up on one type of book or one author and read several before I finally get tired of them and move on to something else. I'm currently reading Duma Key, by Stephen King.

Glad to be a part of the group, and looking forward to sharing!

Ashley (flywife) | 2 comments Hi everyone! I work for the university also and have been in BCS since 2002 (except for 9 months when we moved away). i love reading but don't read nearly as much as i'd like to. lately i've been reading a lot chit lit since its an easy read after a long day at work :-)

a book challenge would be fun!

message 8: by Lana (new)

Lana Hi everyone! I am also a CCU nurse at St.Joe's and love to read. I followed Joy and Pam here and look forward to reading with everyone. I don't have a favorite genre, although I am a huge Harry Potter fan and have everything by Stephen King. I also read Patricia Cornwell, Kathy Reichs as well as alot of Christian Fiction. I have lived in CS since 2000 except for a 6 month period when I moved to Corpus Christi. I have a wonderful husband who I have been married to for 20yrs, 5 children (4 girs and a son) ranging in age from 18-10, 3dogs, 2cats and a couple of lizards that belong to my son. I can't wait to get to know all of you better.

message 9: by Julie (new)

Julie | 2 comments Hi all! Sorry it had taken me so long to check in. I am a stay-at-home mom to girls age 8 and 11. I am married to a great man who works for A&M. We also have 3 cats and a pug. We have lived here for over 10 years, and have no plans to leave!

I love reading all sorts of genres, but right now I am stuck in a rut of what I would call self-help or parenting books, Maybe that's why I have so many on my currently reading shelf. They aren't all exactly page turners! :) So far, my 11 year old has inherited my love of reading, and we have a mini-book club going with my mom.

I will try to keep up with whatever goes in in this book group, but I may end up being more of a lurker. As you can see from my shelves, I have many books I am trying to finish!

Debbie Lockledge (aggieland_deb) Is this group still active? I noticed most of the most recent posts are 3 years old.

Greg Lentz (greglentz) | 1 comments Hi everyone! I hope this group is still active and I'd like to get to know you all.

I'm a debut author living in the Bryan, Texas area. My book The Nexus Complex has recently been published after six (yeah...SIX) years of writing/editing and I'd like to get into any discussions you may have about it. You can find out more about The Nexus Complex at www.thenexuscomplex.com. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I'd be happy to help!

message 12: by Dawn (new)

Dawn Husted (dawnhusted) | 2 comments I was wondering the same thing. I guess it's active as long as people still post and read discussions. However, this is the first time I've seen this group and I'm glad I found it! I've lived in the B/CS area for 30 years and I'm married with two kids.

I was never a huge reader, but a few years ago, that changed! I really enjoy reading when I find the right book and I like to review as well. I run a blog where I post indie/small-press books and review others (http://bookloads.weebly.com).

I've written a few short-stories and a couple of books. But I consider most of those stories as a stepping-stool to my most recent book, SAFE (published August 2013; a young-adult dystopian read) If anyone is interested in a review copy, let me know!

Rowena Philbeck Dawn, I would love to review a copy of your book. I live in Bryan and work at TAMU for the past 21 years and a local shoe store. I have 3 grown kids and 8 grandkids, 1 dog and 1 cat. I also am a member of our local Spinners/weavers guild and knitters guild. I make my own yarn and teach spinning. Your book sounds interesting from the amazon description of it.

Hi Rowena! Thanks for the message, and I would be happy to send you a copy of SAFE. Do you prefer an electronic or a paperback edition?
I knitted for a while, even made a few (semi-symmetrical) hats for my son years back. I'm much better at making toys for my cat, since she doesn't mind if they look terrible. LOL

Feel free to email me: dawnhusted@gmail.com

Talk Soon,
Dawn
