Do you have to read these in order?

Does anyone know if you have to read Ilona Andrews series, "The Edge" in order - or can they be stand alone books?

I always read in order, but I really think this is another series that is better if you read it in order. Not essential though.

If you read them out of order you will have some major spoilers as there is character progression throughout the series even if each book has its own hero/heroine.
