Have you all set a goal on Goodreads for how many books you'll read in 2013? (You know, using the little widget in the sidebar on the homepage.) If so, what's your goal? If not, why not? ;)

My original goal was 20 books, and trust me, at the beginning of the year that sounded epic. :P Compared to what I read last year, that would have been a good improvement.

However, this challenge has worked better than I thought ;) , and I'm already at 11 books. Clearly I need a higher goal! I already doubled it to 40, but I'm pretty sure I'll be raising it again. I'm just not sure what would be a realistic yet challenging goal at this point, because I'm not sure if I'll be able to keep up this reading pace consistently throughout the year.

Leah Good | 236 comments Yes, I have! It's my first time using the challenge and so far I love it.

My goal is 90 books and so far I'm right on track. The most books I ever read in one year was 140 in 2010. We'll see what this year brings.

Excellent! A nice, sizable goal. :D

Cool! So if I want to beat you, I need to do, say, 12-15 a month, eh? ;)

Jessie (a_quill_pen) | 2 comments Last year my goal was 70 but I only made it to 65 because I got tired of reading all the time. xD

I'll probably start with a goal of 50. Hoping to read some poetry books/books in verse this year, which is pretty light reading.

Theodora R. R. (the_homesick_dreamer) | 122 comments My goal is 100 at the moment; I made about 140 last year, so I might end up changing it. XD

Sounds good, Jessie! Let us know what poets you end up exploring. :D *should read some Robert Frost herself...*

Good goal, Renna! I might end up joining you with 100. XD Here's to hoping you can pass your goal!

Charis (ravenofthewood) | 37 comments I decided to put mine at 50 for now. Years ago I would have read much more than that, but it's the time thing, you know... :P As it is, I'll have to read heavily during my two months of summer break to make it.

I totally understand, Zoe! That's been me for several years now... Hence this whole challenge and etc., etc., you heard this all before. :) Irregardless, 50 is a great, worthy number.

Ashley (stapledmustard) | 7 comments My goal is only... what do I have it at? 36 or so? I have a habit of reading long books. Like 1000-2000 pages and up. Makes reading more books a little difficult haha. Ok yeah, its time for me to get back to reading. I've been sleeping horribly and I can't read when I'm tired, but now I'm finally all rested up and good to go! Woo!

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks so much for the encouragement, Brandy! I'm tempted to aim for 100, too. It's a nice number. :)

Whoa, Ashley, impressive. o.O I'm glad you're rested and ready to read! Looking forward to seeing what kind of books you devour this year. :D

I officially raised my goal to 100 books. It still says I'm ahead of schedule, but I expect my pace to slow down later in the year, so my guess is that it will even out. I can always raise it later if that's not the case.

Jonathan Lovelace (kingjon) | 89 comments Unfortunately, I probably won't be able to use this Goodreads feature this year---I've imported my rating for every book I rated in LibraryThing, and as far as I can see it counts all of those as "read" the day I added them, earlier this week. I will, however, try to keep my "outread-aubrey" shelf up to date. :)

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Ah, that's a bit annoying, Jonathan. You might poke around and see if there's a way to fix that. (At the very least, you should be able to manually set the "date read" to sometime last year, although that would be tedious.)

message 16: by Leah (new)

Leah Good | 236 comments If you're willing to do it book by book, you can just hit the little "clear" button to the right of the "date read" column and that would take care of it.

message 17: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lovelace (kingjon) | 89 comments Actually, now that you point me in that direction, it looks like Goodreads isn't setting the "date read" date. So I may be able to do this after all. Now to pick a goal. :)

Excellent! :D
