John Bullock (beagrie) | 120 comments I love this idea. It's kind of like the "five word story" forum fad that happened last year, but with more words :D

I'd love to be involved in this. I've sent a PM your way, Tyler.

Did I make a mistake?

Tyler Lutz (tylerlutz) | 233 comments Jeff, I got ya.

Richardya, I'll post the writing tonight or tomorrow, promise. Also, a list of everyone participating anbd their dates for writing will be posted as well.

John, need your email!

message 56: by Tyler (last edited Feb 06, 2013 04:08PM) (new)

Tyler Lutz (tylerlutz) | 233 comments The order of everyone on the list is the order I received your emails. I don't see any reason why people can't trade spots if they both agree on it.

Also, for editing purposes, as more writers begin to submit their section, I can highlight each individual section with different colors. I can then highlight a block in the shared spreadsheet for easy reference.

Tyler Lutz (tylerlutz) | 233 comments Story has been posted. Can't say I'm not a little nervous...

Please keep in mind though, we have time to edit, so don't beat yourselves (or others) up too badly.

And don't edit other people's stories while you have the privilege to edit the document. Just focus on your part and we'll edit when the time comes.

Kev (sporadicreviews) | 667 comments Anyone on the list that's scheduled to write in May want to swap dates with me? I'm April 3-10, but April will be a nasty month for me as I'm moving from Indiana to Seattle that month.

I'm down for June, but whenever is fine for me. It's not May, but if you don't get Mayan to swap with, I don't mind.

Tyler Lutz (tylerlutz) | 233 comments Alright, the next part has been posted.

I'd like to clarify though that we should try and stick to around 600-800 words and also you pick up where the last writer left off, not incorporate everything they wrote into your segment. We'll fix what has been written in editing.

Seawood is up next!

This is loads of fun. You guys are going to have a blast when it's your turn. I want another turn at the end now, though! :D Can't wait to see how it's all going to turn out and how each of you will take the seeds the early writers plant. It's going to be deliciously twisty. :)

James H. (jhedrick) | 128 comments It IS a blast Seawood and I can't wait to see how you and everyone else move the story forward! I'm frantically refreshing the Google Doc to see what gets posted. Thanks again to Tyler for getting the ball rolling on this!

lol. You might get a surprise :) I've just had my DH proof it for me so I'm going to leave it to sit for probably one more day in my head to make sure I'm happy with it.

Big thanks to Tyler for getting it all set up, it's been very easy to get going.

I'll allow elie88, as he sent me his email a few days ago and Matthew, if you want in, send me your email. Other than those, GAME OVER MAN.

Planchette | 10 comments James wrote: "Would it be easier with a sketchy outline of plot/characters? We could use this discussion to hive-mi..."

I'm easy. I could work with loose story guidelines/set characters - or not. If the story gets untenable, I don't think it will be becuase of a lack of guidance along those lines. I think we are more likely to have timing issues - when to add in the problems, twists, resolution and whatnot. Having the final number of contributors will help us know how much each person is able to write, and give us an idea of when to drop the bombs, if you know what I mean. But, I'm open to whatever.

message 73: by Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth (last edited Feb 20, 2013 04:40AM) (new)

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments Day off today, so I will be writing my section, but don't plan on posting right away, as I like a day or two to notice my mistakes. Only just reading through for the first time as I wanted it to be fresh, but already getting a lot of ideas. Hope I continue it well. :)

Just a note on spellings - since I'm English, I will, of course, be spelling things the English way, and since I imagine both sides wouldn't be best pleased to be 'wrongly' corrected, shall we just leave words such as color/colour as the author wrote them when it comes to the editing later? Sure it's a little uneven, and if I must be corrected, so be it, but it seems right to leave such things as is.

Edit: To help me get started and not accidentally contradict previously stated facts within the story, I've started a character sheet and copy pasted relevant bits from the story so far. Perhaps I should make that available somehow? It might make it easier for everyone to keep track? People could add to it as the story expands?

Edit (again!): Yikes, I hope you guys won't mind me going a little over the word count! I have the ending to my section written, but ended up doing quite a bit of character stuff, and it's taking longer to get there than planned. >.< Sorry, I seem to have a habit of writing a paragraph when a sentence would do. >.<

Edit (again! the last one, I swear!): Never mind the last edit. The ending I described for my section is now one of those things you write that will never be. It's up to someone else now how that bit goes, if it goes at all. My section is finished, bar editing, and will be posted as soon as I make sure I'm not going to make a total ninny out of myself. It's mostly character stuff, and back story, and not a great deal of plot development, but hopefully that's cool with you guys.

I had a great time writing this, and I'm really looking forward to finding out where it will lead. :D

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments Today is my birthday, so it seemed a fitting day to post my bit for the story. Apologies if it seems to dwell too much on relationships, but I wanted to get to know the characters a little better, and hopefully I've included enough hints to move the story on.

Never used google docs before, so hopefully I've done it right. Good luck to the rest of you! :D

Pouria (paganmoon) | 37 comments Well, this is moving along pretty fast, getting cold feet here now hehe, hope I don't mess it up.

And just a note, since I am Swedish, I will be misspelling often, and mixing English and American spelling of words :)

/P

Is this story going to be viewable for other S&L members?

I'd like to read along but have no wish (or writing talent) to contribute.

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments James wrote: "That was my bad. I took it to be a prompt."

I'm sure some creative editing will sort that once we are all done.

The same with misspellings, Pouria, though judging from the abilities of my Swedish friends, your spelling will probably be better than most native speakers!

I agree that there should be read along options for those not joining in, upon request, probably, but maybe that would be hard work for Tyler?

It's not necessarily hard work, I just don't think it's up to me to make that decision. This is a group effort and if others aren't comfortable having their work in progress visible to the public, I should respect that. It may be best to leave it a mystery for now; adds to the suspense.

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments lol, well, for the record, I'd be fine, but I do like your point about suspense. :)

message 82: by Gordon (new)

Gordon McLeod (mcleodg) | 348 comments Is it too late to join in on this?

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments I'm afraid so, Gord. Sadly, there has to be a cut off point somewhere as Tyler, our great and glorious leader in this lovely experiment, said on the 16th. I'll quote him below.

Tyler wrote: "Alright, just so we're not doing this for the whole year, I'm gonna go ahead and declare that there be no more applicants."

message 84: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (deckfullojokers) | 55 comments I could go either way with allowing others to view it. I'll defer to the majority, but I think if I had to pick, I'd rather only show the nice final version for this first experiment. :)

message 85: by Gordon (new)

Gordon McLeod (mcleodg) | 348 comments No worries, if the experiment is successful, I'll join in the next one. :)

message 86: by Pouria (new)

Pouria (paganmoon) | 37 comments Well my section is done I think, I've read through it a few times and couldn't find any glaring spelling mistakes, but you get sortof "blind" to your own text, so I might jump in and do a few changes if I find them.

And Ruth, a character sheet would be great, I didn't see age mentioned anywhere, so I set one, but I might have missed it, so a character sheet would be really nice.

It was a really enjoyable experience, very hard to get the ideas down in a coherent way though hehe.

Tyler Lutz (tylerlutz) | 233 comments Interesting developments.... Kalvin is up next!

message 88: by Pouria (new)

Pouria (paganmoon) | 37 comments My part might read rushed and such (I have no prior writing experience), and if anyone feels like it makes the story too convoluted, feel free to skip it completely.
I had this idea in my head when I read the first part by Tyler, and not sure I really got it down correctly.

message 89: by Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth (last edited Mar 01, 2013 11:58AM) (new)

Ruth (tilltab) Ashworth | 2218 comments Oooooh, I LIKE it, Pouria! Very nice. :D

As for the character sheet, I'll try to make them a little neater (they were mostly just rough guides for my own benefit at first) and add info from our sections onto what I'd already got, and then I'll see if I can make it available somehow. I'm not sure at all how as yet though, so suggestions on that would be good. Or I guess I could just paste on here, but that could become messy.

p.s. I don't recall age being mentioned either.
