No, each chapter is presented by one of 3 women - Skeeter, the main character, Aibileen and Minny. At first I found it a bit weird, too, but then once you get to know the women more it flows much better. Plus, I enjoyed getting to know each of them more intimately as I followed the story.

Just got to Skeeter's voice this morning - this is getting very interesting!

Juanita (juanita19) Currently, I'm reading Of Human Bondage after which I'll either pick up reading the rest of The Count of Monte Cristo, or get current with The Help.

message 54: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild T.C. - you'll love it the more you get to know each character.

message 55: by Heather (new)

Heather Faville (headshotheather) Currently reading Swan Song by Robert McCammon, just finished reading my husband's first novel & Dead By Dark Charlaine Harris

message 56: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild Read Life With My Sister, Madonna by Christopher Ciccone, but found it too much like reading junk food, only not quite as good.

Started Steinbeck's Travels with Charley: In Search of America a few nights ago and as a huge fan of his writing, of course, find this delightful!!

I also just read the sample of Anthony Bourdain's Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly and will probably read this next. I kept clicking away for a Kindle copy to be available and it seems my wishes (and clicks) have come true.

message 57: by Kelley (new)

Kelley (LuckyKelleyK) | 5 comments I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. It was actually very good. There was just A LOT of information in the beginning that was pertinent to the story. I am now going to read the sample of the next book in the series, to see if I want to read it next.

Heather Faville (headshotheather) KindleKay wrote: "I almost never, ever pay $9.99 for a book. I use Kindleboards.com bargain and free book threads a LOT! ."

I am newer to Kindleboards.com and am not finding these bargain and free book threads. Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Never mind, I think I JUST came across it. Thanks!

message 59: by [deleted user] (new)

Just pre-ordered Robert B. Parker's SPLIT IMAGE, a Jesse Stone novel. (Still $9.99 on Kindle, out on Feb. 23)

There can be no doubt/question about reading the next book, The Girl Who Played With Fire, it's better than the 1st, which was excellent! The Third, The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest, is due out on Kindle in May I believe; only book I've ever pre-ordered.

Juanita

message 62: by Al (new)

Al | 12 comments The third is the best yet. It's the only book I couldn't wait to pre-order. Got it from Amazon.uk. I figure to read them all again some day, something I rarely do.

Kathy (marianslibrary) | 6 comments I'm now reading, Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford, on my Kindle.

Yes, stick with it! I almost put the book down around page 100.Then suddenly I was hooked. I've recommended this book to many people and I tell them it takes a little while to get into because the author is developing the story line of the 3 main characters.

Kathy (marianslibrary) | 6 comments Al wrote: "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest is the best of the three, IMO. "

My husband is just about finished and is loving it as well!

Al | 12 comments Is there anything better than a great character, to a reader???

message 67: by John (new)

John (taborcarn) | 2 comments I read Dragon Tattoo last fall, and Played with Fire was the first book I read on my Kindle.

I really liked them both, although I agree some of the names and locations made things hard to follow at times.

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

I definitely spend more on my reading habit now than I did pre-K.

Recently read Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater and Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. Shiver is a 5* and Hush, Hush is a 4*. I just started The Dark Divine by Bree Despain and am enjoying it so far.

Did you know that the sequel to Shiver will be out this summer? I think in July. It's called, Linger.

Kathy wrote: Did you know that hte sequel to Shiver will be out this summer? I think in July. It's called, Linger."

Yes! I can't wait. And there is a third book in the making called Forever due out next year. I think there are even rumors that Shiver is going to be made into a movie. :)

message 71: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Robert B. Parker's HUGGER MUGGER this morning - not sure what I'll read next. (Waiting for pre-ordered SPLIT IMAGE by Parker, out soon.)

message 72: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild I started The Postmistress a week ago, but then found out that Shutter Island was my March book club read - so put aside Sarah Blake's and began the journey into SI. Loved the start and found it fun/creepy, especially because I grew up in the exact area that this takes place. Loved to hear the reference to Nantasket Beach as it was one of the beaches we frequented as kids.

Then I made a HUGE mistake!!! My Goodreads book group always runs 2 threads for each month's books - one with spoilers, one without. I always read the posts on the non-spoiler and then a few of the ones with spoilers since they usually incorporate a few chapters at a time. Well, not this time! The very first sentence in the very first post basically gave away the ending. I am so bummed and don't know if I want to finish reading it. I guess I've leaned my lesson!!

message 73: by Juanita (new)

Juanita (juanita19) I'm about 1/2 way through Shutter Island and am enjoying it tremendously! So I will be staying away from any goodreads threads discussing it!

message 74: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm reading The Help right now and love it!

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Robert B. Parker's Split Image, which I really enjoyed - and now I'm reading this one by an author who's new to me: Prime Time, also a great read.

message 76: by F1Wild (last edited Mar 11, 2010 10:51AM) (new)

F1Wild I just finished Shutter Island last night (and honestly, I'm still digesting) and will get right back to The Postmistress tonight. The Postmistress by Sarah Blake

message 77: by Vicki (new)

Vicki I'm 36% into Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Ok, I must be weird because I've enjoyed the book from the beginning. I like the character development rather than the characters dropping out of the sky and ending up where they did. Although I'm still waiting for it all to come together and make a bit more sense.

The only thing I've found off-putting is the Swedish names, until I realized I don't have to remember most of them and I have made use of the bookmarks feature quite a bit.

message 78: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild I read Moloka'i by Alan Brennert then just finished Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez and will be starting Soul Mountain by Gao Xingjian tonight - if I ever get to bed (now 4:30am!).

message 79: by Carla (new)

Carla JFCL (stellamaz) I'm reading I Know This Much Is True ... one of Wally Lamb's books. He wrote She's Come Undone, which is one of my very favorite books. I love "dysfunctional-family" novels and few write them as well as he does.

message 80: by LizH (new)

LizH (liz_h) | 3 comments Reading House Rules by Jodi Picoult. Broke down and ordered it at $12.99

message 81: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild I started reading Soul Mountain a few nights ago, but it didn't grab me right away as I had hoped. I just happened to be browsing around on Amazon and found that pone of my "wanted badly" books was now available on Kindle and so I snatched it up and will start it tonight. I can't wait to start it - Twilight in the Forbidden City -Revised and Illustrated 4th Edition by Reginald Fleming Johnston. One of my all-time favorite movies, Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Last Emperor" is based on this book.

message 82: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (melissa6705) | 2 comments I am reading "It's about your husband". I am so excited to start this.

message 83: by Emmy (new)

Emmy Beautiful Creaures, Nauti Deceptions, Columbine and Blue Bloods.... Love them all!

message 84: by F1Wild (new)

F1Wild Now, I'm reading The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (for some reason the "add book/author" wont work for me at the moment).

I also have a slew (a ton, several, gazillions) of samples downloaded onto the Kindle - one of my favorite features!!

message 86: by Marie-Nicole (new)

Marie-Nicole Ryan | 2 comments I just finished reading RHETT'S PEOPLE on my Kindle. Written by Daniel McCaig. It's much more like GWTW in that it's more rooted in the historical genre than historical romance.

Michele Stegman (goodreadscommichelestegman) | 3 comments Juanita wrote: "Kelley wrote: "I am currently 23% into The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Honestly, I am not really enjoying it yet. I am hoping that the story will get more interesting, because I am going to finish..."

I have the book, but haven't started it yet. Guess I better get with it since the movie is coming out!

Michele Stegman (goodreadscommichelestegman) | 3 comments Hey, everyone! I don't have a Kindle, but I do have the Kindle ap for my iPad! Hope it's okay to join you all!

message 89: by Joan (new)

Joan Reeves (joanreeves) | 9 comments I read so much more with my Kindle because I can drop it in my purse, and I always have something to read when standing in line anywhere. Also much easier and quieter to read at night in bed when my darling hubby is sleeping. Of course, I still read print books, but I find Kindle books so much more convenient. For the first time, I read multiple books.

Currently, I'm reading Bella Street's Z Factor, second book in her Apolcalypse Babe series. Just finished Lawrence Block's memoir, Afterthoughts. Loved it. Finishing up Marilyn Brant's Double Dipping, and have a dozen or so to read and review. Between writing, blogging, and a real life, I'm just slow when it comes to getting reviews up.

Oh, also just finished Protector by Laurel Dewey. Gritty and gripping. Did get a review of it posted.

message 90: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Mondello (lisamondello) | 2 comments I don't have a Kindle yet. I have the Nook Color. But I'm reading Water for Elephants. Good story!

Lisa Mondello

message 91: by Joan (new)

Joan Reeves (joanreeves) | 9 comments I've not viewed a Nook Color, but I've thought about buying one just to see how my books display on it. Do you like your Nook Color? And why did you go for it rather than a Kindle if I might ask?

message 92: by Kandy (new)

Kandy Shepherd | 1 comments Persevere! I found it difficult to get into at first, but then absolutely loved it and went on to read The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest. I felt quite depressed when I finished as I knew there wouldn't be any more books!

message 93: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl Bolen | 1 comments Joan made me feel really quilty, she manages to read so many books while doing all she does. I've been swamped with work the past few months and only allow reading in bed, where I must say the Kindle is better than turning book pages, which wake up the DH. I do keep several books loaded on the Kindle, but right now am making myself read books being put out by my new publisher, a subsidiary of Harlequin. So I haven't got to Cynthia Wicklund's Garden series or Joan Reeve's newest yet.

message 94: by [deleted user] (new)

Guillermo Del Toro's Part three to The Strain Series,"Night Enernal."

message 95: by Phillip (new)

Phillip Bryant (phillipmbryant) | 3 comments Chase The Wild Pigeons: A novel of the Civil War and Quitter: Turning Your Job into a Dream and Your Dream into a Job

I'm an extremely slow reader and have to divide some of that time between historical research and pleasure reading. When I was in the National Guard we had tons of down time each drill weekend and I went through books much more quickly than I do now.

message 96: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Miller (httpwwwgoodreadscomklmiller) | 2 comments I'm reading Game of Thrones...saw the mini series on HBO. It's a good read, follows series fairly well. But I'm also interested in reading Arcadia by Lauren Groff. It's a foray into a seventies commune.. I'm addicted to my Kindle Fire and never thought I'd prefer it to hardbacks or tradebooks, but I'm hooked..so many books, so little time..as they say..

message 97: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Miller (httpwwwgoodreadscomklmiller) | 2 comments Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell is amazing. He channels each time period character with uncanny accuracy. I'm looking forward to seeing how the movie handles the book.

message 98: by Annie (new)

Annie Rayburn (annie_rayburn) | 2 comments I'm reading Undeniable by Alison Kent. It's the first in her Dalton Gang Series and I'm about 69% in. So far, so good. An enjoyable read.

I'm mostly on track to meet my reading goal this year.

message 99: by Rosa (new)

Rosa | 1 comments Right now I am reading Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan series. I love my kindle, I have read so many more books since I got it. Nd now I can even get my ebooks from the library!

message 100: by Toni (new)

Toni Kenyon (toni_kenyon) | 2 comments I've become a Kindle convert - I never thought I would, but there you go! Who'd have thought a little electronic device could change my reading habits so much.
I've challenged myself to read 30 books this year and I'm discovering just how easy it is to have the kindle with me all the time.
I'm reading New Zealand authors at the moment, Kris Pearson's 'Resisting Nick' is shaping up to be a great read.
