evie (ecie) | 4437 comments Cold camomile tea makes a soothing eyewash. Use an eyedropper to apply it, and keep the brew in the refrigerator. When I was a youngster working as a beautician, we used this remedy in the salon after eyelash tinting. Make the brew then strain the tea by stretching a clean piece of stocking over a cup and pouring the tea through it.
We would also put a spoonful of the camomile flowers in the steamer before a steam treatment.

It's also great as a gargle to reduce the pain and inflammation of mouth ulcers.

I am reading the book "Drop Dead Healthy." It describes deodorant as containing "parabens, which cause endocrine disruptions and cancer."

The alternative, according to the woman with the above opinion, is to use baking soda combined with corn starch.

Gargling salty water is the best cure for a sore throat.

CD | 1577 comments Did we ever mention salt and vinegar potato chips for a sore/scratchy throat??

Maybe it is just an excuse to eat the whole bag. After all, wouldn't want to infect anyone else would I?

Hot salt and vinegar chips? I haven't had those since I was a kid. You would get a bag of hot chips wrapped in paper with the top ripped out, the vinegar was squirted over the top. Yum!

Julie | 44 comments For menstrual cramps, a shot of Oozo and a heating pad.

Old remedy my mother gave me when I was young and it worked.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Oozo! I haven't had any of that in YEARS. Flashback to some seriously funny memories (specifically to some Turkish friends who gave us a bottle as a housewarming gift after my roommate and I moved into our sweet condo back in the mid-90s). One of the guys drank so much, he crawled under our futon/couch and none of us could coax him out from under it. It was all pretty funny.

message 74: by Marie (new)

Marie I have ear problems sometimes with wax build up, so a remedy that my childhood doctor always told me was to use peroxide and warm water. It literally does work as I still use it when I have problems. The peroxide basically "eats" the wax.

My dad use to put vapor rub Vicks in his nose when he started to get a cold. He also use to swab his throat with it too (I never tried it as I would probably be gagging), but it seemed to work for him.

For an upset stomach I normally drink ginger ale with crushed ice and just sip it periodically, until I feel better. Though one time I was sick with some kind of stomach bug (years ago when I was young) and our neighbor told my parents to go buy coco-cola and warm it up in the microwave. I had to sip a large cup of it. It worked as the stomach bug went away within just a few hours.

message 75: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3594 comments I also use peroxide when I feel an ear infection coming on. Sometimes it works; sometimes not. And I occasionally rub Vicks on my feet and sleep in socks, resulting in softer skin. For stomach upset, I snip a few sprigs of mint and make a tea, which helps. I also add a few drops of tea tree oil to my facial wash, which has alleviated rosacea.

I get wax build up in the ears too. I went to a doctor to get it removed, Thanks for the tip, I will try that next time it builds up.
