Susan | 6406 comments Going to my husband's work. There is this tricky little part of the expressway that if you are not careful will take you about an hour off your course. Plus, I hardly go there so it is easy for me to do.

Ha! Unfortunately no. I'm just procrastinating on working on a project I need to do for work.

I've gotten turned around there, too. I used to get lost when I first moved to Pittsburgh, about __ years ago. The locals had a habit of taking down street signs and highway markers, just to mess with people from somewhere else. I remember one evening when I went through the same tunnel about 6 times.

I get lost in DC just about every time I go there. The layout of streets makes no sense whatsoever.

Call me when you get lost in DC. I know my way around.

I can't remember ever getting lost in a city. I have a good sense of direction. People must sense this about me because I am always getting stopped and asked for directions. Always. If there are 50 people on the sidewalk, the tourist will find me and ask how to get somewhere.

I thought I had told you...I wrote it in the third stall of the bathroom of the Cheesecake Factory near your house.

evie (ecie) | 4437 comments Central Railway underground tunnels. Myer department store, Pitt street. I sometimes have to leave a bread trail to find my way back to the door where I entered.

The roads around Darling Harbour.

Phil | 11837 comments I'm quite skilled at finding a place on the first try, even if I've never been to the city before. However, I can never find my way back to where I started. Odd, that.

message 18: by Pat (new)

Pat (patb37) I remember getting lost repeatedly in Boston and Portland OR.
I hope to never have to go to either city again.

message 19: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I've gotten turned around and delayed in finding my way in many cities. But I don't think I've ever been really lost. If I drive around long enough, I'll find something that's familiar and make my way to where I want to be.

message 20: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments Like that tunnel in Pittsburgh?

That only place that works for me is Chicago. I love a grid! The cities with twisty one way streets are what do me in.

message 22: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) That does make it more difficult.

During urban renewal in Chicago in the 60s they made some streets one way, and dead ended others, to keep poor black people out of some neighborhoods.

We also have the situation where some roads dead end into the Chicago River, and these tend to be in areas where there is a lot of nightlife and bars, so people get drunk and lost and drive into the river. There are cases of people who went missing and no one knew WTF happened to them until their cars were accidentally discovered in the river months or years later.

This happens sometimes in the lake, too, but less often.

message 24: by Susan (new)

Susan | 6406 comments I have been lost in Chicago. Good thing it was not near the river.

Also the river is not very wide, so people see the street lights and building lights on the other side of the river and assume the street continues, and if they just keep driving, they will get to that building....no.

Susan | 6406 comments I got lost going to the airport today. Well, more like off track. Rather askew on my initial course. Off the beaten track.

message 27: by Arminius (new)

Arminius In my head, I find a lot of interesting stuff in there sometimes.
