SOLVED. Father and daughter move to ramshackle ancestral home in Canada, after losing mother. [s]

This is a fairly recent, quite literary book. It might have the word Snow in the title, but not 100% on that.

The mother has either died or run off, and the father decides to move them from the states to eastern Canada (I think - somewhere with a lot of snow anyway) and renovate an old cottage or farmhouse that belonged to his father or grandfather, near a small town. The daughter, needless to say, is none to happy about this at first, and has trouble adjusting to the remote location, school, etc. The snow is a big feature in the book.

The father meets a wonderful woman who lives in the area and they eventually find love together. (hide spoiler)]

Thanks Sidrah! Hmm this complicates things... I have read Shreve's Light on Snow, and think I may be mixing up the book I'm trying to remember with that one... I don't remember there being a baby, but maybe I just blanked that bit out since the plot does sound so similar.... does the father *SPOILER*

OK, thanks. I'll leave this up a couple days just in case anyone comes up with another book that sort of fits the bill - possibly by a Canadian author - and possibly a lot of what I described is from Shreve's book, but with a new relationship being integral. Otherwise will chalk it up to my failing memory and mark it solved.... :(
