Olivia "So many books--so little time."" I will when it comes out in paperback. Hardcover's too expensive.

Mark Luckie As long as he doesn't write himself into the novel (Dark Tower) I'm in. I agree that if you mess with a classic, you better bring it.

Melana Nope!

Five Stars already Michael? How would you compare it to The Shining? Has King still got it?"

I think 'The Shining', 'Salem's Lot', and 'The Stand' are his best works, and while they're excellent reads as stand alone novels, good reviews might talk me into reading a sequel on any of them. I don't think it's anything more than boredom or money driving this venture, but if he can recreate the atmosphere of the original, then what the hay? I won't read anything by this author without sterling recommendations at this point otherwise. Bear in mind, 'Carrie', 'Misery' and 'Cujo' were also fine works, but for me he became the McDonalds of horror writers after 'Thinner' and 'It'. 'Different Seasons' (The Mist), and 'Skeleton Crew' (Apt Pupil & The Body), were also good, er, reads.

R. Michael Duttera Undoubtedly as "The Shining" is one of a mere handful of books I've ever read in ONE sitting!

Vickie I just finished the The Shining, and yes I am going to read Doctor Sleep. In fact I have it loaded on my Nook already, but need to take a break form horror. Going to start on Elizabeth of York.

message 160: by Ree (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ree I read Dr. Sleep and thought it was a good second book to the Shining, but not as good as the Shining

Amnesiasocks I read it and I thought it was really good. Not to say that it topped the Shining, I don't think that is possible, but it is very much worth a read. I loved the idea of a follow up to the climatic ending to the Shining. It did not disappoint.

Kari Hakkers Shane wrote: "In a recent Entertainment Weekly article, Stephen King reveled that he is going to write a sequel to "The Shining" - which is apparently the first sequel he's written. Are you interested in readin..."

That sounds really good! I would love to explore that place again! I heart Stephen King!

message 163: by Joel (new) - added it

Joel Halfway through Dr. Sleep and still liking it... But not as good as 11/22/63....

Roberto Perrini Of course the sequel will be great.. I TRUST THE KING

Gary I am reading it and I am enjoying it. To me it seems like King from the old days. Not the King that wrote Christine and Desperation, but the King that wrote Carrie, The Shining and Pet Semetary.
