Perhaps that's why I don't really participate in social media. I see enough people hurt because of political machinations, and mean-spirited people in the news. I don't need to see it online too.

Social networking is all in how you use it. I've used it to find friends from my past. For instance, I found my college roommate from 60+ years ago. We hooked up on Facebook and rekindled that friendship. My daughter's girl friends in high school used to always come over to our hose before a school dance. Their dates would pick them up after they had all gotten dressed up and looked fantastic. Now, they are married with kids, but, they all "friended" me on Facebook.
I had an older friend who corresponded by letter for years with a man he'd served with in the army. His friend would write him once a year on Christmas, and my friend would write him back on New Year's Day. Then they became friends on social media, had a falling out, and never corresponded again.
It's all in how you use it. Some like to post recipes, pictures of pets, flowers, uplifting quotations. Some like to stir the pot on social issues. Some authors use social media very effectively to bring attention to their new works. Imo, it's your page or feed and you should be able to use it however you like. If those reading your post or tweets don't like it, then they should simply move along.

"A great example of using social media badly. To use an overused adage, it is what it is.
For my veteran friend, the falling out came because of his knowledge of his friend's activities. He saw online that there was a gathering of vets that he wasn't invited to. He would never have known about it if they'd just kept corresponding by letter.
