Title: Dreams of the Queen
Author: Jacqueline Patricks
Genre: Science Fiction/Romance

Synopsis: Haunted by dreams of an alien world and obsessed with unlocking the mystery, Dr. Cass Baros does the improbable. She creates a wormhole. Meanwhile, she suspicious of her fiancé and co-project leader, Dr. Julian Saunders and her boss, Dr. Janson, also has an agenda, which includes adding an U.S. Army contingent to her scientific team. Captain Lewis seems intelligent, but an army grunt is still a grunt, right? As if this isn’t enough to make a normal woman paranoid—and Cass is anything but normal—her dreams have altered to include an alien man who thinks she’s their predestined queen and savior.

Unable to return home and facing numerous dangers—external and internal—the team deals with this fascinating new world, including a changing Cass. Everyone is plunged into an adventure beyond their control, one in which they must struggle to survive as they unravel the millennia old secrets of the brajj’s world.

Passion and love, genius and madness, jealousy and danger enough to cause the death of worlds await them through the wormhole...

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 50 comments Thanks! I'm working hard on the sequel, Nightmares of the Queen (have a small excerpt on my blog here) and also my other fae-fantasy/romance, Fairytale Apocalypse.

I'm farther along with FA because I started it the same time as the first Queen, but I'm trying to write faster now that the first one is published and people are ready for the second one. Nothing more motivating than people messaging you with "hurry up and write, damn it!" LOL!

Nicole (kizi) LOL That goes to show you that your work is good! Can't wait to read both. I definitely can be added to the anticipating crowd. I stayed up until 3:30 this morning finishing the book because I couldn't put it down.

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 50 comments *SQUEE!* Now that's what an author loves to hear!

So sorry about those last few typos... argh! My original editor quit 2/3 of the way through and I was scrambling to find a new one last summer. Everyone I asked was either too busy or too expensive (I don't mind paying but $3000????) Yikes! I know a lot of writers, but most are newer then me and I end up betaing them, so it was a painful process last year.

So, I'm glad there's only a few typos left. I had friends and family test reading it just for that and still things snuck through. I ended up having to edit the majority of it myself. So frustrating, mind-numbing and not something I recommend or writers are supposed to do.

I've got a brand new editor this time and she's committed. And I've picked up a few new test readers from last year because of the debacle of the 'missing editor'. I also bought two new grammar software programs to help filter. My grammar skills are top notch, it's just the filtering of creative writing vs editing writing. Things just tend to slip through no matter how good you are.

Nicole (kizi) The typo errors really were not bad at all. I have read so many books that were just horrid with errors. And with what happened to you and how you had to go about, I'm really impressed. That shows real dedication on your part!

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 50 comments Thanks again! It was tough and I've read some real stinkers too. Those I don't get past the first page or two. But then, I'm doing my best to avoid that stigma of self-published authors. Since this was my first book published (but not written), I'm striving to learn from these first stumbling blocks and my next books will be even better (hopefully!). But then, that's how it should be regardless. I don't expect perfection from any book, but you can tell when there's a book needs extreme editing and/or the writer needs more experience or when they haven't bother to work. The market for self publishers is going to get tougher as readers like yourself get stricter about their preferences and I don't blame you. I'm already that strict, lol!

Nicole (kizi) I usually give a book about 50 pages to catch my interest. If it doesn't, then I know the book just isn't for me. I can say with complete honesty that your book pulled me in from page one. I liked the fact that you balanced all aspects. There wasn't too much of one genre. Honestly, I don't really like a book to have too much 'romance'. Then it becomes all about constant cuddles and bedroom time. You had great action with romance and tension sprinkled in. There was drama and comedy and adventure! You added twists that, in the middle of the night, I had to stop myself from laughing loudly and waking my husband up with a, "No way!"

The creativeness of the storyline was brilliant. I love the imagination of... Well... All of it! Usually, you have a whole bunch of stories that come out and seem almost photocopies of previous books. This was something new! Refreshing! I give you great kudos!

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 50 comments @Nicole - I feel the same as you. 50 pages is the max start for a book for me. My dad actually taught me that. The fact that I was able to catch your attention right off is a huge compliment! I know just how hard getting the right hook is.

And the mixing of genres... that's a big reason why I got so many rejections. I tend to have a hard time writing in the strict genre rules. IMO, how can to create new twists and spins on the same old stories if you can't mix and match genres a bit? Besides, real life is just one genre. And life imitates arts and visa versa.

Woohoo! The twists and surprises got you! I'm a hard one to shock. I usually guess endings, so I try really hard to create solid, interesting plot lines. It helps that I'm a total panster writer. I never use any outlines. I just write straight from my head to computer. So glad you enjoyed reading it!

@Danielle- as you know, Carrie should be getting with you about the Smashwords coupon. Being Sunday, I'm sure she busy. I'm excited that you're interested and hope you enjoy it too! Everyone's interest is making me write the sequel faster. Was write fast anyhow, but really motivated now.

Jacqueline Patricks (jacquelinepatricks) | 50 comments Thanks for your honest opinion, Mj!

I take this-->It was very plotted out and a little too over thought for my tastes tho.
-- as a huge compliment since I'm a pantster writer. Which means I don't use an outline and very few notes. I start with a basic story and characters and as I write certain aspects emerge, usually twists and ideas that surprise me too. It's straight from my imagination to my computer, non-stop.

That's half the fun of writing, so for you to say the above is a triumph to me!

Thanks for reading! :o)

Did r2r give you this book? I don't have you on list? Confused is all!

Jamie (jryder) LOL... sorry for the confusion. I thought I had been part of the R2R but realized that I was wrong after I reviewed. I didn't think it would hurt to write it up here.
