Why do you write?

I write the stories I want to read.

[Florence]

I write because one day I sat down and figured out that, with all my education, as a teacher I was making the same as a friend whow worked as an aide at the nursing home down the street and she didn't even have a high school degree. And I was about to get still another degree that wouldn't increase my pay a single penny. I decided to jump ship and do something I enjoyed and if I only made a pittance, who cared because it would be made doing something I loved.

For me writing is very much a cathartic experience. An idea takes hold and I find that I am almost compelled to express it in words.

I chuckled when I read that you consider writing a 'cathartic' experience because, as a writer, I've occasionally been asked to look at someone else's work and I soon learned that most people go through a cathartic stage when they first start writing. I did too.

[Brian]

I still have a cathartic experience in the writing and I'm getting ready to work on my 17th book. I find the marketing however is anything but.

I am not sure how long my cathartic period will last but I am certain that I have much to learn about the craft.

I write because imaginary people and peculiar ideas stroll across my mental stage chronically.
