Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I"m almost finished with the first 10 chapters and ready to talk about whenever you are.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments I'm really enjoying it so far! I still think Pet/Scythe is my favorite character :) So many things have already happened I don't know where to start. Poor Lien, he's already having a rough time of it getting swallowed by that sea beast.

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I love Pet/Scythe! Kien. He's obviously like Jonah. But I'm sure we'll see some of the other Old Testament prophets show up.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments Oops! His name is definitely not Lien, that's what I get for typing on my phone =) I'll definitely be interested to see what other prophet's stories get added in.

I was shocked when Ruestock popped back up. He's always so creepy!

I'm glad Tamri went with Ela to the Tracelands, she's a hoot and so feisty.

Something serious must be going on in Parne for the Infinite to have it destroyed. All this business about smuggling those ores is very fishy and so is the fact that they had forbidden Ela entrance. I hope the city will get their act together and repent. Adair-iyr as well. Just from the brief glance we got it seems to be an awful place.

It's good to see Kien growing in his faith. I think by the end of the book he could be a force to be reckoned with, like Ela.

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Of course the romantic in me wants Kien and Ela to have a happily ever after. But I don't think we'll get that in this book.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments Oh I'd love a happy ending too. I'm like you though, I'm afraid we won't get one. I can't decide if Ela's going to live or die in the end. You know, sometimes you can get a feel for what the author's going to do but not this time. I'm pretty nervous for her.

Can you think of anything else to discuss in this section?

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments Sorry about my long response times. I've been working a few 12 hour shifts this week. It shouldn't always be like this.

Don't worry about the long response times. I'm currently working long hours as well. :)

Can't think of anything else to discuss for this section. So let's move on to the next 10 chapters.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments Sounds good. When do you want to discuss?

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Think we can get the next 10 chapters finished by Feb 5?

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments I think that should be doable. Happy reading!

message 13: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I'm so sorry that I've not gotten farther in the book. I got a bit distracted with a few others I'm reading.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments To tell you the truth I've been a slow reader lately too. No rush, just let me know when you're ready. I just recently finished the section.

message 15: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I"m moving that one to my read at-night-before-bed stack so that I can finish it soon. I'm somewhere along chapter 13.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments No rush! Just let me know when you're ready. I read several books at a time so I've got a couple others I need to get done for review (yikes!)

message 17: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I think I'm only reading 2 that aren't for reviewing right now. One is on my kindle and the other's a library book. I'm so funny. I bring a book to work and read at lunch (currently that's the library book), there's one by the recliner in the living room, a stack by my bed, and the kindle.

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I'm caught up. Finally. Sorry.

Pet is still my favorite character! I love love love that destroyer!

My mind's a bit fuzzy at the moment on the events in this section though.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments Not a problem, I'm usually the one lagging behind =)

Pet will always be my favorite I think! He just so great! I like that we're getting to meet Jon and Bekka's destroyers too.

There are some things that have happened in this section that I'm still in the dark about but I think that's how it's supposed to be. I am fuzzy on some of the events that I think we're supposed to understand too though.

I'm glad that Ela's father isn't involved in the smuggling but Parne seems to be in some deep trouble. I hope they can come out of it but I'm not sure.

This city Kien is in seems really bad, I'm glad that at least someone has listened to his warning.

message 20: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments The city Kien's at seems like a combination of Sodom-Gommorah and Ninevah.

I think Ela's father has been targeted because he's the father of the Prophet.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments I agree, I think they're trying to get at Ela by targeting her father. I'm sad to see that the man The Infinite appointed as Parne's new head priest has been put out of power by Zade Chacen. And his sons are just as corrupt as he is.

I was shocked to see that there were Deceivers in Parne! Ugh, they're terrifying!

I'm starting to like Matron Prill though. She's a lot different than I first thought.

message 22: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Yes I like Matron Prill. She's a solid character and a good cheerleader for Ela.

I actually finished the book the other day. While it didn't grip me like Prophet, I still enjoyed it. For some reason, this one was harder for me to get into.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments I agree, I had the same problem getting into it. I'm finishing it up now and I still really enjoyed it, but I couldn't put the first one down. Istill loved this one but it took till around chapter 17 for me to get into it like I wanted to.

message 24: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments I know! I couldn't put the first one down either. I loved loved loved it. This one felt a lot like Two Towers (both movie and book) for me. Slow moving, not a lot of action.

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments You're right, a little like the Two Towers. Middle book syndrome? Once Kien made it to Siphra and the siege of Parne started it did hold my interest a lot better. I like Akabe a lot and am looking forward to reading King.

message 26: by Dawn (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dawn (baseballblondie) | 1166 comments Very true. I'm also looking forward to reading King. I wonder how many books are going to be in the series?

Elizabeth (lizr8900) | 317 comments I'm wondering that too. I've seen R.J. Larson's work in progress board on Pinterest and I can't decide if it looks like a completely series or not. It definitely piqued my interest. Sorry I'm slow to respond =)
