Lily tore open her left hind stitches tonight at some point. It's gaping pretty badly, so I guess I'll take her in to the vet tomorrow morning. Marg taped it & then put vet wrap on it. Darn dog.
Oh, no! The wound was probably bothering her and she thought she could fix it. Poor thing.

I don't think she chewed it out, Joy. More likely bounced around too much or hit it on something, then licked it clean.No worries. She'll be fine. We've all torn out stitches before. I hope they don't have to recut the wound like they did when I tore open the bottom of my foot. Then the stitches are even tighter & you have to be more careful. It's just a pain.
The worst thing is the monsters all want breakfast, but Lily doesn't much like car rides. She gets car sick with Marg, anyway. We'll see how she does with me. I've taken her around the fields without a problem in my little truck. She starts drooling as soon as Marg tried to put her in her truck, though.
I didn't realize that drooling might be a sign of nauseousness in a dog. Interesting. (Of course, I realize that some dogs are just natural droolers.) :)
Juneau drools when he's in the car too. He's never been nauseous though. It's very odd because he never drools, only in the car and it's a lot. I have to put sheets on the backseat so it doesn't get all over the seats and I bring a handtowel to wipe his mouth. It's gross.
Lily drooled a LOT. We're talking a 2 towel dog, here. The vet superglued her wound back together & put another layer of vet wrap on it. While we were in there, I had her ears checked. Turns out she's starting to get a yeast infection. We haven't been cleaning her ears weekly & should be. Haven't had a floppy eared dog like her in 20 years. Once we knew she was having issues, we started cleaning her ears, but had forgotten. Anyway, after the vet's, we drove about 10 miles & went to the hardware store, Chisum's. I sat down & had a cup of coffee & cigarette with the crowd while everyone fussed over her. The we wandered the aisles picking up a few items before leaving. She got to meet a couple of cats & another dog briefly & then we got back in the car & came home. Hopefully that showed her that the car doesn't just mean the bad old vet's. She still drooled a lot, but not as much, on the way home.
I used the spreader to put 50 lbs of salt on the lane. We might poke above freezing one day this week & that's the day we're supposed to get more ice & rain.
I have forgotten, Jim, is Lilly a Jack Russell? I had thought she was until I read about her floppy ears. I had an Irish setter and never cleaned her ears. I didn't know you were supposed to do so. However, she was at the vet a lot so perhaps he did it. Glad you are through the crisis with Lilly. Winter hasn't started yet and I bet you will be glad to see it go away, far away. nina
Jim, You can bring your pets into the stores and smoke inside? I think I'm liking Kentucky for my next home.
Jim, are floppy-eared dogs more prone to ear infections? Our Princess is certainly prone to them, and she's floppy-eared (at least when her ears are in their normal position). Our vet has never suggested that the two are connected, though she did link the ear infections to Princess' numerous allergies.
Nina, Lily is an English Pointer who thinks she is a JRT since her roommates all are. ;-)
Yes, floppy eared dogs are more prone to wax buildup & ear issues, but it depends on the breed & the dog. I guess Lily is one. Not a big deal. We tend to remember such things about the animals. For instance, we know their normal temperatures & can put our hands on a thermometer for them immediately. People? We couldn't even find our human thermometer.
Jackie, yes. You can wear a gun, too. Actually, you can wear a gun more places than you can bring a dog or smoke. They're fading, but gradually.

Shame on you for "wearing" a gun. That implies a cosmetic effect, and bugs me. You "carry" a gun. In NY we have the Sullivan law, and local judges are beginning to cave to political correctness. 'House' gun permits are being issued now.
Actually, I neither wear nor carry a gun. Can't speak for anyone else, though. I'm not against it at all, just don't have a need to.A few years back, they tried to make it illegal to have guns in public meetings, but the next town council meeting was very well attended & everyone had them. They decided not to discuss it.

Jim, LOL, that's fantastic!In the 4th Dean Koontz Frankenstein novel, set in Montana, there's a holiday gathering for the town and everyone is in attendance. A threat occurs and everyone brought out their guns and started shooting, even the women had them in their purses. It was my favorite scene in the entire book.
Earl, I don't own a gun and I do not know the proper terminology, sorry. I never thought about it as a cosmetic effect. Thanks for correcting me, I like to learn new things.
Earl, PS: What's the Sullivan Law?
It's a law NY made back in the early 1900's (1910?), put forth by a guy named Sullivan, one of the notoriously corrupt Tamany Hall gang (politicians). It's one of the oldest gun laws on the books & made it necessary to get a permit to carry a concealed weapon or face a felony charge. It's the backbone of most of the gun laws today, which kind of sucks because it was basically used for Tamany Hall to make sure its guys had the firepower while everyone else was unarmed.

Well, I am staying in my cosy home today and doing a bit of light cleaning to get the place ready for the holiday.I have NO plans to go out--we have a strom prediction for this afternoon--four inches at least, with rain first. so there will be a lot of ice on Friday morning, I fear!

I am happy to be able to say, "Merry Christmas," as I didn't receive Goodreads yesterday. We are supposed to have a White Christmas. We will see what develops. I hope not freezing rain. My son and four grandsons are experiencing lots of rain in Southern CA. So far, only a minor accident due to slick roads but quite a storm I heard. nina ps Our film editor gave four stars to the new, "True Grit," and thinks the young girl will get nominated for an Oscar. He says this film will revive the Western.

I agree, Jackie! Sure, some Westerns were just routine, but I have seen many good ones. I would lke to see the genre revived!

I liked Crowe in the remake of "3:10 to Yuma".
I liked James Garner in, "Support Your Local sheriff."
Oh yeah! That movie was hilarious. I still watch that every couple of years. I mentioned "3:10 to Yuma" because I thought that was successful & it was made well after "Dancing with Wolves" which I didn't care for.

Support Your Local Sheriff is one Western that Barb and I both like, too. She's the household Western fan, but I've watched several with her (and liked a few), and even watched some on my own over the years. Some of my other favorites, besides ones I've already mentioned in this group, are Quigley Down Under (okay, it's set in 19th-century western Australia --but it's still a Western!) and Last Stand at Saber River, both starring Tom Selleck, Shane starring Alan Ladd, and No Man's Land, starring Stella Stevens. (Barb's not a Clint Eastwood fan on the whole, but she really likes Two Mules for Sister Sara.) I've never paid much attention to fluctuations in Hollywood's interest in the genre, though!Interestingly, neither of us cared much for Dances With Wolves, either. Actually, we've never seen it all the way through. When it first came out, she wanted to see it in the theater; but we found it too grisly-gory, especially since we had a then very little Rebekah in tow. We were afraid she'd be traumatized (Barb covered the poor little kid's eyes at one point :-)), and we got up and left at the point where the demented fort commander was about to shoot himself in the head. From what I've since heard, and seen bits and pieces of on TV, it gets better after that point; but we've never bothered to try again to watch it through.
It's the setting that I remember most in "Dancing With Wolves," as we used to drive through the reservation where it was filmed. It was inspiring in it's own way. And also walking about on the grounds of Custer's Last Stand was awesome in a different way. It brought that battle right to my heart. It was once part of the land owned by one of my ancestors. nina

I recently read & watched "The Outlaw Josey Wales". I really like Clint Eastwood movies. They're fun and I don't mind the gore. One of my favorites of his is "Paint Your Wagon" where he sings along with Lee Marvin - an unlikely pair for a musical. Lots of fun songs in that, though.
I agree that Clint Eastwood is a good actor. Substantial. No fluff. nina

Thanks for the links to the NY Times best sellers. The one that sounds appealing to me are the "Letters to Julia." So many books to read and so little time. It's a balmy 15 degrees out with a pretty good wind, so it promises to be a cold day. We got about 2.5" of snow yesterday. Luckily, James flew in from Connecticut & Erin drove up from Bowling Green, picked him up at the airport & brought him home before it got too ugly out. He did have a 50 minuted delay at Midway in Chicago, but otherwise all was fine.It's supposed to get about 10 degrees warmer today, so I guess I'll wait until after lunch to scrape the lane. We could drive through the snow, but later this week we're supposed to get a warm spell. If I get all the snow off, maybe I can get all the ice off finally. It's been there for weeks. I really don't want Marg to have to contend with it in the bus on 2Jan when the kids go back to school.
My new hat is a wool fedora (sort of). Inside, it has earflaps to pull down. It's perfect! Not only sheds the water & shields the eyes, but keeps my ears warm.
During the night here, about two or three inches of snow came down. At least we didn't get the blizzard that the New England states along the coast got. Downstate NY has a good foot of snow.We've been kept pretty busy with overnight company. The whole family was here. Most have gone home, but our four grandchildren are still here, with their parents, of course.
The parents didn't just dump the kids & run? ;-)
It's nice to have the family around. We're enjoying a fairly laid back day to visit with James.
It's hard to be laid back with the kids around. :) Their parents stay around so they can referee. :)
