What are U doing today? (Ongoing thread)
I'm back online but am not sure for how long. Am having trouble accessing the Internet. Am getting help. If worse comes to worse, I can use Eddie's computer. He'll love that!
I am in in today, as it snowed (AGAIN-sigh-) last night.Not a huge amount but very slick and the wind howled all night.
Spring cannot get here soon eough for me!
So, I will stay home and read!

My laptop's wireless capability is down but I'm able to connect to the Internet using a hard-wire connection to our wireless router. The problem is being looked into.
Joy, I sympathize fully with your computer woes! My Internet access keeps being disrupted, too. We get ours through Verizon; their local server has been down about five times in the last 2-3 weeks, and twice in the past two days --I haven't had access at home at all today (I'm at work now), nor yesterday morning, either. I hope these problems get resolved soon, for both of us!

There are so many pitfalls when one leads a computer-oriented life. I often wonder if it's worth all the trouble. Of course it is... but I can also understand why some folks want no part of it.
I had car troubles this morning that led to a relaxing day & fun round robin for communicating with me.Yesterday, my car started acting hinky; rough idle, conked out, then ran fine. So I called my neighbor, Richard, who came over & got it last night. I took Marg's truck to work & he took mine since he's my mechanic. I got to work at 5:30, leaving about the same time he did. I forgot my cell phone, something I do maybe once every few months.
At 7:30, I got an email from my son to call Richard. My truck had died on the way to his shop. Luckily, his son was following him. Richard couldn't get me on my cell, so he called the school bus garage. They radioed my wife, who realized she didn't have my work phone number, so she woke up my son to email me... I guess it was the long way round the barn, but it worked!

AAA won't tow a vehicle unless the owner is present & Richard took his key with him to the shop, so I wound up having a short workday to get it towed.
Jim, when it rains, it pours! A comedy of errors (but not so funny, eh?). Hope your car finally gets fixed.
It's fixed. Richard brought it back tonight. New front brakes, fixed battery cable & a carburetor cleaning got it all fixed up. Cost me $100. I have the BEST automotive service available.

Have you learned the word "vitrectomy" yet?
My husband will be undergoing eye surgery this week. We've had to rent Vitrectomy Recovery Equipment because he will have to keep his head down for about a week or more to allow his retina to heal correctly.

Congrats, Linda!My day yesterday started off badly & didn't get better. I came in to find the A/C had failed in my office/server room. Luckily, I arrived just in time. It was 94 degrees in here. I got it down to 84 with fans, but had to work in a sauna until almost lunch time.
I was given a laptop with a virus that was brand new & had trouble getting it submitted to Sophos. That finally worked & I got the updated files this morning & got that fixed.
Bad things come in 3's though... I was also worried about Marg's wrist. It had been hurting her so badly Sunday that she took off work & went to the doctor. She's pulled a tendon in her wrist & that's irritated the nerve that runs up to the funny bone. She's off work for a week since she can't use her right hand at all.
Needless to say, she's not happy. Getting dressed or washing her hair is a major ordeal. She noticed it hurting Sunday, said it felt as if she'd fallen & caught herself. She hadn't though. She finally figured out that she'd stopped Cutter from running her over in the stall on Saturday morning. He heard something & swung around when she was feeding him. Not unusual. She stuck her hand out to keep him off her & that did it.
So instead of turning bowls out of the Maple tree I cut down Sunday, I have to cook dinner, do the horses & any other chores that she normally does with 2 hands in the evening. Frustrating.
Jim, you both have my complete sympathy. How frustrating it must be for Marg not to have the complete use of both hands! (Is her arm in a sling?) For you it means double duty at home. Not easy.Why did your office get so hot in this chilly weather? Ooops! I'll answer my own question. I guess those servers get pretty hot.
Congatulations. Linda on passing your test. Thanks for the good advice and caring thoughts comimg my way from all of you; I did use ice for my wrist/arm problem. It helped. Also, saw dr yesterday and she said I had an inflammed tendon and gave me prescription for anti-inflammatory medicine and so it has helped. I am able to type with my right hand but a bit awkward as I still have to wear the wrist brace and splint for a couple more weeks. But, it could have been so much worse; no surgery to repair a torn tendon or a broken wrist. Now, I have to say I saw a very good movie while I was recuperating. Have you seen, "The Emperor's Club?' If so, could you ex-teachers or whoever tell me what you thought??? Joy, I think you would be interested in viewing it. nina

Nina, the nurse at the doctors office told Margaret they had a run on wrist injuries the day she came in. Not from falling in the snow, either. Is this contagious?!!!On top of everything else, I had to give Pixie a bath tonight. How could she find something dead & rotting to roll in when everything is frozen?
Yes, Joy. Each of the servers puts out about as much heat as a small space heater. Plus I have a half dozen other computers & a bunch of switches & other devices running, all in a sealed 20'x20' room. It gets hot fast!

Hope by now Nina's and Marg's wrists are much better!Neither Barb or I worked (at our jobs) yesterday, and we won't today; because of our ongoing blizzard (snow started Tuesday night and fell all day yesterday; it's been coming down steadily since we got up today, though we're not sure if it fell all night) the college and the McDonald's where she works have been and remain closed, or partly open with just a skeleton crew. So we'll probably spend much of the day together, as we did yesterday, and I hope for another day of getting in more reading than usual! The bad news is that Verizon's server is impaired again --not enough to keep me off the Internet, but enough so that I can't access the (backlogged!) Goodreads updates in my home e-mail. :-( Oh, well -- two steps forward and one step back!
Werner, good luck with the snow storm. Fortunately, that storm, which covered a wide area in the East, didn't reach us here in northeastern NY. I saw on TV that even NYC was hit hard. While at the Price Chopper this morning to place an order for some meat, I could not help noticing how wonderful the fresh produce looked. I picked up a bunch of beets to cook for tomorrow. John eats the tops, and I the bottoms. Perfect symmetry don't you think? I got into the express aisle and could not help seeing the many men who were in line with bouquets and baskets of flowers for their sweethearts. The people who work there are so efficient, they had a table set up in back of the cashier to wrap the flowers in pink tissue paper. When my turn came, I asked the girl to wrap my bunch of beets in tissue as a gift for my husband. Everyone thought I was crazy or clever. No telling which.
I came out of the store to my dear husband who was waiting patiently in the car. He was so embarrassed that I bought flowers for him, I had him open the tissue before we drove off.
As we drove off, he was shaking his head in wonder, as I was laughing.

Today, Feb. 20, is our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Ed and I did our celebrating last weekend, Valentine's Day Weekend, with the family.On Saturday all eleven of us (grandkids included) went to a show at our local Wood Theater. The show was called "For Lover's Only". It was a musical tribute to Tom Jones, Kenny Rogers, and Elvis Presley, with singers performing in their styles. Lots of fun.
On Sunday we all went to dinner at our favorite restaurant, Jimbo's on Brant Lake. The dining room is as big as a church with a rustic cathedral ceiling. White bee lights all around gave the room a lovely atmosphere. We all toasted with champagne around the fireplace where there is cozy setting with a sofa and matching chairs.
Today, Ed and I will enjoy a quiet dinner at another favorite local restaurant. I'll wear the necklace he gave me as a wedding present, a heart within a heart, done in sparkling rhinestones.
My sister called. She congratulated Eddie for putting up with me all these years. :)

I just saw that Peter Graves has died at age 83.I think I saw him for the 1st time in"Fury", a TV series about a boy and a horse. Been a long time, I don't remember too much about that except it ran a long time.
Interesting fact: Peter Graves and James Arness (Of "Gunsmoke") fame, were brothers. Another talented family.

One of the reasons I remember the song so well, was that while I was a counselor at a day camp around that time, one of the other counselors made up a parody to the song and called it, "Davy Rocket". She wrote a play to go with it and the campers performed it. The Space Age had started. :)
Did you know it was Disney who changed David Crockett's name to Davy? I have done research on him as he was born, as you all know from the song on a mountain in TN and my fifth great grandfather lived across the river from him. Their lands almost adjoined. It was a good song, however, and wouldn't have sounded nearly as great as David, rather than Davy. nina

March 16 - first trip on Glens Falls-Lake George bike path this year. Snow blocks the Rt149 bridge approach.March 19 - Snow on Rt149 bridge approach cleared by volunteer Chris Kope(sp?). Ran into snow a mile past the bridge, round trip 13 miles.
Sciatica in early February had me wondering if I would be on a bike this year. Another epidural injection (Feb 23) got me back in action, dunno for how long.
