Nina | 6069 comments Speaking of different weddings/I once attended a wedding in Greece/my husband's nephew married a girl from there. The wedding reception was held in the bride's backyard and the electricians got into a fight with the table setters and that delayed it a bit, What I remember the most was the multitude of cats sitting on the walls surrounding the yard and watching with apparent interest the fight.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Jim, thanks for the descriptions of the gowns and outfits/attire folks wore. A healthy combination of dress up and casual. I was curious if your daughter wore a typical wedding dress or riding gear. Rode elegantly in wedding attire upon Topaz.

A harpist - sounds wonderful. 50 is a good number.

My 2nd marriage was just myself and husband. Married by the Justice of the Peace with a local cop as the witness. We went across the road to a restaurant on the water and enjoyed a fabulous meal together. I wore a pale rose taupe colored dress which I had in the closet!

Nina | 6069 comments Sounds fine Linda, Love is all that counts with a marriage wherever it's performed. Next November if we both live that long will be our seventieth..

Wow, 70 years! I've never known any couple married that long, Nina. It'll be great!!!

Fantastic! You will be the 2nd couple I've know to have an anniversary of 70 or 72. My former neighbors, loved them dearly were married 72 years and courted for a few years on top of the 72! They passed away at the ages of 96 and 97.

We were quite high in love and just wanted to be together, alone.

I have no regrets. We married in 1990 and in February celebrated our 27th Wedding Anniversary. We were together for 3 years prior and knew one another being in the same circles for another 7 years. My true soul mate.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) 70 years. Wow! Congrats, Nina. Marg & I are coming up on our 35th in May.

message 6809: by Jim (last edited Mar 25, 2017 04:17AM) (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Marg & I have a communication method that she came up with which might interest some of you. We cut up some of those thin magnets (like magnetic cards from realtors & such) & put labels on them for common things we need to remember or need done: feed dogs, feed fish, dishes clean [in the dishwasher], let out the [damn] goats, & others. We keep them stuck on the fridge. When needed, we just peel one off & lay it on the counter where the other will see it.

For instance, I fed the dogs around 6:30am & I'm sure she didn't hear me do it since her light snores never wavered. I'm heading out to the shop & when she wakes up in a couple of hours, they will lie & tell her they haven't been fed. ("We're starving! Feed us!!!) I've foiled their greedy scheme by leaving the "Dogs Fed" magnet next to the sugar bowl so she's sure to see it when she makes her morning tea.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments A neat idea!

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Good idea, Jim!

message 6812: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments A common question in our household, "Have you already fed the birds?" so I know what you mean.

message 6813: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments And a good solution to that problem.

message 6814: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Thanks. Hope it helps. I don't think I mentioned that we used to use sticky notes over & over until Marg came up with this idea. Far easier & quicker.

message 6815: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Yes, Sticky notes are not as permanent.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Today, Monday March 27th - going to the chiropractor then off to get my hair colored. I used to be a very deep strawberry blonde. As time went on most of the red disappeared (around 45yo). Last month had my hair colored strawberry blonde but the color quickly changed and its a very very light strawberry blonde. Giving it a 2nd try.

My coloring is light and feel that blonde makes me looked washed out. With the "red" I look alive and not washed out.

On the plus side, I do not have gray hair, a strand could be like a platinum blonde.

What else to do on a rainy day!

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Good luck at the beauty parlor, Linda. A few days ago I had a perm without getting a cut. Now I have too much curly hair. At times I think it makes me look like one of the Marx brothers. LOL

message 6818: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments One thing about hair no matter what you do to it, it never stays the same so your "wild" look Joy will tame in a week or two and look just fine. I am lucky that I haven't had to have a prem for about thirty years. I do have it cut and thinned about every two months though.

message 6819: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'm glad I'm a guy. I get mine cut a few times a year for $15 a shot & that includes the tip to the barber. Takes about 15 minutes on the way home from work when I think of it.
:)

message 6820: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments I think I'll go back to short hair after this perm grows out. It's easier.

Very lucky Jim. No fuss and low cost.

message 6823: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments The color and trim/shaping cost $105.00 plus tip. Very expensive. Color is good but will fade. Hopefully not as quickly as last month.

I very rarely go to hairdressers/salon. Trim my own hair. Went to a salon to see how different it would be to have my hair professionally colored. To me, not worth the $ but had to get this out of my system.

Next coloring I'll have my husband be the colorist with a box of $8.00 dye!! Cheaper and easier.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments What am I doing today? Going to work. Dreary rainy day.

Good news is - only a 3-day work week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Took Friday off for a long birthday weekend. Birthday is April 2nd. I'm off on Mondays and took off next Tuesday as well. Long long weekend (which also makes the work week next week short as well).

message 6825: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Happy birthday early, Linda. Enjoy the long weekend.

We're getting soaked this week.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments All, my birthday is April 2nd. Born at 4am. When my Mom was annoyed with me - she would say I have to tell you something. What Mom? You weren't born on April 2nd. You were born just before midnight on April 1st. You are a Fool, an April Fool! Then she'd laugh.

My Mom Loved April Fool's Day and had herself a ball with little pranks on her 3 kids. Some were just silly things. Such as are you going to school in those clothes? We'd look at the article of clothing Mom was referring to with quizzical looks on our faces. Then respond with I don't have a hole in my clothes (pants, shirt, dress). How did you get them on? Silly things.

Hi, Mary JL. Good to hear from you.

message 6833: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments We just made it to extreme drought and then got an inch of rain and that is the most since last October. We are predicted to have another inch or maybe two inches tomorrow and perhaps Omaha will get this too. And all I remember about April is that it was a fun day after the months of winter and sometimes cold and snow in March. It was kind of a relief to laugh again. Linda your mother sounds like a hoot. A good sense of humor.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments They are changing the weather forecast for my birthday weekend. Snow tomorrow. I'm off from work - guess we'll stay in, pack for our mini-trip (Saturday to Tuesday).

Going to the 1000 Island Area on St. Lawrence River where we used to keep our boat even though I live near a vacation Lake area (very expensive here much less there).

Part of the trip is looking for snow geese - we will be travelling the known fly zone area. Always great fun for us.

OH, NO! More snow. Our weather report looks like this:

Tonight - Cloudy. Snow likely late. Low 32F. Chance of snow 90%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.

Tomorrow - Snow during the morning will mix with rain at times during the afternoon. Some mixed winter precipitation possible. Temps nearly steady in the mid 30s. Chance of precip 100%. 1 to 3 inches of snow expected.

I've also heard 6 to 12 in this area - all depends on which weather station is reporting - seems the predictions are all over the place.

Husband went and set up the snow blower. Boots and warm gear ready. Shovels ready. Except I'm not!!!
