We like Frank's Pizza best. It's near the Outlets in LG. I prefer the Sicilian style pizza. Usually I enjoy any pizza from anywhere.
Off to eat my chow mein and lo mein... that's probably what he ordered for me.

With the exception of Sushi Yoshi, I haven't found a decent Chinese place up here. I had to learn all our favorite recipes myself. Where do you get your Chinese?

Flower Drum Song. Not bad, better than some. But their chow mein noodles aren't the string-shaped ones. Instead they're like chips which taste different. I prefer the string-shaped noodles which are tastier.
Brooklyn Pizza makes good lasagna, but many times they're they're out of it.

Our son thinks my hard drive is going bad. He plans to work on my laptop while he's here for Thanksgiving.
Meanwhile, let me wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday.

We'll be having dinner on Friday when the kids make it. Well, 2 out of 3 of them.

Thanks for the good wishes, Jim. About your celebrating on Friday, that's what we call celebrating "off-peak". We've done that as well when the kids couldn't make it for the exact date. As long as the family gets together, that's the main thing.

We decided to postpone our dinner until I feel better.
My mom isn't coming because she doesn't want to get sick, Eric went to his grandparents so it's pointless to cook today, especially feeling so awful. We're hoping for Saturday. The turkey is defrosted so we can't wait much longer than that anyway.

There are lit up and decorated (Christmas) trees outdoors and indoors - everywhere you turn.
Then, its a pleasure to come back to the quietness of home (Lake George - for most of the tourists are back home until late Spring).

Since my laptop has been under repair by our son, I haven't been able to get online as much as I'd like to. Today is the first day I've been able to use my laptop. I now have a lot of new things to adjust to since many changes have been made. For now, I won't go into detail about the changes. Suffice it to say I've got a terrible headache. :)

I hope those who were feeling poorly healthwise, are feeling better now.
“Man never made any material as resilient as the human spirit.” -Bern Williams
Gee, I hope that's true. :) As I've said elsewhere, my brain is fried at this point. The learning curves seem to be getting steeper and steeper.

Tomorrow night I'm volunteering at The Festival of Trees at the Saratoga City Center. It's a fund raiser for Catholic Charities and runs through Sunday. Tomorrow is also the Victorian Street Walk downtown, so I should be quite busy.
I hope these are the kind of comments appropriate here here.

If you are not familiar with Saratoga Springs, Google us and you'll get a glimpse of the community.

I've been to Saratoga and I like it. Lots of nice shops on that main avenue. It's been a while since we went there but I'd like to go back.
Another nice town to visit is Lake Placid. We took Juneau for a dog pull 2 years ago and I was so impressed with the town and it's unique shops, unlike Lake George where it's all the same items in the store. If you're ever in desperate need of a bikini, a T shirt or a coffee mug, Lake George is the place to shop, LOL

Yes, Katherine, this is the perfect place for that sort of post. The festivities in Saratoga sound very exciting. I googled and learned more details at:

Like Jackie, I wish I felt better so I could enjoy the activities. Glens Falls had a Festival of Trees on Thanksgiving weekend, but we were busy with family and didn't have time to attend.

Also, like Jackie, I love the shops in Saratoga. Our Red Hat group ate at Chez Sophie early in the fall. I know they are no longer in business. Did another owner take over the restaurant? It was at the Saratoga Hilton:

There's lots going on in Saratoga during the next couple of weeks. Should I post details of these events?

Thanks for the info, Katherine. I liked the atmosphere at Chez Sophie. I guess The Union Grill will be the same.
Yes, by all means, tell us about the goings-on in Saratoga. At least I can have vicarious experiences. :)

Sat. & Sun. there's a Craft fair at the Saratoga Arts Center. The Center, which is Broadway in front of Congress Park, was formerly the library where I spent numerous hours when I was growing up. The Fair runs on Saturday from 10-5, and on Sunday from 11-4.
At the Spring Street Gallery, 110 Spring Street, also on Sunday, there's a FREE celebration of Rachel Carson's life and legacy. There are 2 screenings of "Rachel Carson: Preserving a Sense of Wonder".
There will also be a book available written by Joe Bruchac and illustrated by Tom Lockner, and signed by the authors. The event is from 2:30 - 6, with the movie shown at 4 and 5.
ASIDE: Joe Bruchac was in my high school class. Check him out on Google. I've read his "Bowman's Store". Good book.
One more thing:
Starting tomorrow is Restaurant Week. All the featured restaurants have entrees priced at $18.19 (the year Saratoga was incorporated as a village). The discoversaratoga web site has a list of participating businesses.
That's it for now; I'd better get some rest.

I'm still studying medical terminology, onto the 2nd stage which is medical anatomy. The transcription portion starts at the end of January and lasts until the end of May.
I tell you this because I'm envious when I see all the great books everyone is reading. I won't have time until the very end of May.
Until then, waiting for the day I can read for enjoyment....... :)

We had 2 inches yesterday - LG NY. Made the scenery beautiful. Didn't stick much on the blacktop.
Where do you live?

I guess we'd better get scrambling. Today I ordered books to give our sons for Xmas... _Outliers_ by Gladwell. Amazon is down to $11.75, hard copies, with free shipping when spending over $25.

It was a winter wonderland here in Glens Falls this morning. Stay warm, Mary! Get those boots out. :)

I love those selected short stories on the radio. The station makes very good selections.
Today on NCPR I heard part of the album called "Songs of Angels" sung by the Robert Shaw Chamber Singers. Beautiful Christmas music. So peaceful.

Happy Birthday to your mom, Jim!
May she have many more.
Yesterday was the birthday of one of my nieces.
She turned 60! If THAT doesn't make me feel old, nothing will. LOL Well, she's my oldest niece. :)
I'll bet your mom is younger than my niece! :)

Does your mom still fox hunt?
I always feel sorry for the foxes. :)

No need to feel sorry for the fox. They only chase them & then they go to ground when they're tired. Sometimes that's quick, sometimes not. I've watched foxes play with the hounds before, leading them through hedgerows where their larger size piles them up. The fox sat at the top of a rise & I swear it was laughing. Then trotted off & went to ground. It could have ducked in a lot earlier.
One of the things most people don't understand about the fox hunt is it needs a lot of wild area, usually several thousand contiguous acres at a minimum. Because of that, the various hunts around the country have kept a LOT of land out of the hands of developers & often do a lot of other stuff to promote wildlife.

Jim, it's another world to me! I had to look up "go to ground." Was kind of fuzzy on the meaning. Found out it means: "To escape into a burrow, hole, etc. when being hunted."
So do you mean that they never shoot the fox during a hunt?

Fox hunting originated in the British Isles because they were over run with them & they did kill them. Here in the US, we're not so they just chase them. A kill is rare & not what they want. Some hunts go after coyote or do drags (someone drags a bag with fox scent on it around).
It's a lot of fun to hear the hounds bay & go flying around after them. Beautiful scenery, lots of fun jumps & such. It's quite a sight & a real blast to participate in. Steeple chase & timber racing are intertwined with it. The area I used to live in & Mom still lives in was a real seat for it.

So does that mean the whole idea of the chase is to motivate the horses to run after something so people can enjoy riding? In other words, the horses lead the way? Or the horses follow the hounds? I've never thought about the details of this type of thing. Interesting.

All the schools are closed; the buses were taken off the street; many business and days cares closed and so on!
Hoping fervently we do ot lose electricity; as our furnace in this apartment building is electrically ignited!
I am not even considering aoing to work today.

The huntsman & whips (staff) chase the hounds.
The Master chases the hounds, but makes sure he/she keeps clear of the staff & tries not to get between the hounds & their quarry. He is leading the field, so that complicates matters.
Everyone else makes up the field, although the field can be made up of more than one group. Jumpers/nonjumpers or fast/slow. Often smaller groups of children &/or old people tag along & then there are 'Hill Toppers'. They are observers. Sometimes on horseback, other times in cars & hiking.
Wikipedia has a pretty good article on it.
