Jim (jimmaclachlan) Have a good Thanksgiving! Glad you're feeling better, Nina.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Hubby and I had a very good few days at Turning Stone. Especially when hubby won $$ to cover entire trip (well room and food were free) like tips, gas and one Sombrero drink for me to celebrate the winning!! Came home with $$ in the pocket.

I am thankful for my friends on Goodreads (although I'm terrible with doing book reviews). Thankful for this beautiful sunny - yet very cold day - thankful for the love of my life - my hubby and more ....

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Eat, be merry. Diet tomorrow.

Nina | 6069 comments What's it like weather wise on Thanksgiving day is our area/Kansas City MO, Kansas City KS and Johnson County where I live? It is sixty degrees and light wind, sunny with no leaves on the trees but the grass is still green. Hope your day is Happy.

message 8107: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Joy, I haven't gotten any goodread messages for several days. Could you send me one? I don't know if I'm having a problem receiving them. I'll answer back if I got it. nina

message 8108: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments PS I think I just saw one from you from yesterday so we'll see if I am still receiving them.

message 8109: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) We started out at 28 this morning, but got up into the upper 40s. It's supposed to be even warmer tomorrow, but then rain. Like we need more. I think we're an inch off the record year of about 67" with an entire month to go. We average about 4" in December. Our average for the year is about 45", so it's been soggy.

message 8111: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments My computer was down for almost a week so this is the last message I received from Goodreads. I had one hundred and seventy messages to read when my husband finally was able to restore them but I don't have any from Goodreads so could one of you please send one so I can see if I'm getting any? Thanks

message 8112: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) You just need us to post something, Nina?

message 8113: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments My husband retrieved the latest these past few days so no longer need special posting. It has been a long going struggle to get it all resolved but think the worst is over. My husband says he has seen messages that others have been having the same trouble with no explanation why.

message 8114: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Ok, here is my posting above.

message 8115: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Blizzard conditions here/very cold and hazard driving/freeways closed/some of them in MO and KS and six hundred flights canceled at Chicago and Kansas City. Worse storm in several years. Down to nine degrees tomorrow night and yesterday was sixty five and sunny. Fortunately our son got out on SW at six this morning and is home safe in San Diego.

message 8116: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments STAY WARM!

message 8117: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Glad the computer problems are fixed. Sorry the weather is so rotten. We had another nice day today, but are supposed to get cold all this coming week.

The girls are in a dither since they're leaving Saturday to fly up to RI for James' wedding. They'll stop in MD on the way back & be home on Tuesday. I hope the weather works out for them & the wedding. The stop in MD is to visit the rest of the family & they'll get to see the new grandson.

Mom is having them all over for dinner. She's getting around with a cane pretty well now. Still can't bend her knee all the way.

message 8118: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Hope they have a nice time!

message 8119: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Sixty five degrees one day and blizzard the next day; 800 without power; one was my daughter but thankfully it came on later. Schools closed; ice streets. Multitude of accidents. Now is the twenties and sunny and warming up to the forties later in week so not so bad.

message 8120: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's been snowing here all day. We're right at freezing, so it's not sticking most spots, but there are a lot of slick ones. Not as windy, thankfully. Yesterday was a little warmer, but due to the strong, cold wind, it was brutal.

It looks as if the temps will be in the mid 40s for here & the North East over the weekend & early next week. Some rain, but nothing that should cause the girls problems in their travels.

message 8122: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) While it got just above freezing in Louisville today (where I work & 500' lower) the high was 25 here at home. It was 24 when I got home & is now down to 22. Brrr. The roads are a mess. We're getting just enough snow to ice them up. Marg's afternoon bus run wasn't pleasant. Not the worst she's dealt with, but pretty ugly.

message 8123: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments No school buses here as no school for two days. Poor Marge.

message 8124: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Wow! Hope things improve!

message 8125: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments Roads passable today as we ventured out for errands and schools back is session and forties degrees tomorrow.

message 8126: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Ground is clear here. Brief snow flurries in morning.
I was able to wear my suede boots to work today - no rain, no snow and walkways clear. :)

message 8127: by Joy H., Group Founder (new)

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Sounds good!

message 8128: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) It's still below freezing here, has been for a couple of days now, but it's supposed to get up to the low 40s today & start to rain. It's not supposed to get below freezing again for another week or so. I hope so. I'm worried about the girls getting stuck in their travels.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Today we are going to " Christmas in the Country" - which is Washington County NY

Its and open house and studio tour - about 15 locations - artist studios - make and sell their goodies - quilts, candles, paintings, Christmas decorations, wine, wood art, wreaths, embroidery and more.

Its their 28th year and I just learned about this tour!!!

From there we are driving into the next town to see if we can spot a snowy owl. I keep trying.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Have a good time, Linda.

message 8132: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments We once had a white owl in our backyard and I don't know if that qualifies as a Snow Owl.

message 8133: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments White owl is more than likely a snowy owl. Lucky you!

message 8134: by Linda (new)

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Christmas in the Country was very good. I bought a few small hand crafted items. One was very simple - a very small pine cone wreath made out of 3 rolls of small pine cones. Plan on making some of my own soon. One reason - yard is loaded with small pine cones.

Only made 4 stops out of 15 possible stops. Two had hosts who were people I know. Supposedly each home/studio had refreshments. My hubby drove me. Each time I came out of one location I had a homemade cookie for hubby who then was more than happy to drive me to next location.

Some homes are very small. When there were 3 people in kitchen the room was crowded. Went into another small room that only fitted 4 people and you had to wait for the other 3 to leave before you could leave. Part of the fun. Some walkways were snow and/or mud as snow was melting.

Found going from place to place interesting and a bit of fun. Nice to see home made crafts and items made by artists in their studios.

Enjoyable. Different. May run into people you know.

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments I can't believe that Christmas Eve is only two weeks away! I am glad I domy shopping early--I'll bet the malls will be chaos this weekend!

Hope you are all enjoying this holiday season!

Mary JL (maryjl) | 527 comments I am not computer savvy. Can any of you tell me how to remove duplicate books.? I tried to add Rise to Rebellion by Jeff Shaara and got the paperback edition by mistake. Tried to correct to the hardcover copy and ended up with both. Plus it appears a third time in my "want to Read' list.

Or how do I contact a Goodreads Librarian? I just want to show the one hardcover in currently reading and erase the two duplicates. Thank you.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Hi Mary JL - I have similar problems. I don't know the solutions. I just leave things as they are.

All instructions are for using a computer & a web browser. If you use the phone app - don't.

To delete books, go to your book shelves.
- Type part of the name into the 'search & add books' window (top center)
- you should now see the books. Look to the far right & you'll see an 'x'. Click on that & it will delete the book. Do that for all duplicates.

To change the edition of a book, look it up as above.
- Click on it.
- The book page shows up, so hover your mouse pointer over the cover of the book at the top left. A button will appear for 'Other Editions'. Click on it.
-Look through the editions for the one you want. There is a dropdown that can limit some types that is sometimes helpful.
- when you see the right edition, look to the right & you'll see a button for 'Switch to this edition'. Click on it.

You can also review 2 editions of the same book. I do this frequently since I'll have read them in paperback & also listen to the audio version. In that case, you find the right edition as above & click on it. Set it to currently reading & any other shelves you want.
- Click on the title of the book & you should return to the book page.
- look just above where you can edit for your review & click on 'Review this edition'.

Hope this helps.

Linda (goodreadscomlinda_p) | 1251 comments Bowling tonight. Book club at library - not having the December meeting at someone's home this year, instead we are having the book club meeting and our holiday party at the library. Everyone will bring something. Small group. Should be nice.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments HAVE A GOOD TIME, LINDA.

message 8145: by Nina (new)

Nina | 6069 comments What am I doing? In spite of still lingering pain in the back I am hosting a luncheon for nine tomorrow. It might be my last one. It is tradition for our book club to meet at my house for lunch in December. I am having lentil soup with brown rice and sandwiches that my guests are bringing and then banana bread, homemade; poviticia, stollen and custard sauce on each. Egg nog and carmel pretzels. Sound good?

It was very cozy. Small table for about 9 people sitting around snuggly. A small table for us to put out snack foods.

Just missing Christmas/Holiday decorations.

Sounds delicious. What is poviticia?

Same size as my book club -9 people!

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I think I caused a poor policeman to wet himself this morning. Problems with our alarm system & a really crappy alarm rep. He walked in while I was hidden in the alcove behind him fiddling with the alarm. I put my hands up & said, "hi." in a low voice. He jumped, spun, & thankfully didn't draw. I offered to show him ID, but he looked funny & scurried off quickly keeping the front of his body away from me. He wouldn't meet my eyes after that first glance & didn't want any form of proof.

Poor guy. It was poor procedure just to walk in like that, but once he was in, I was stuck as to what to do. I guess I should have locked the front door, but I didn't think of it. It's just been that kind of a mess the past couple of days.
