Not pets just the wildlife, turkeys, coyote who may pass by, deer and several years ago a bear.
Sounds like a very livable arrangement for you and the wildlife. We had some of the same at our place in the Ozarks and also blue heron.
Today is plant shopping day. Get a few flats and then repot them, place the pots on the deck and porch. Probably get some tomato plants this year as well.
The weekend has arrived! Cool evening. Elvis is in Town (impersonators, of course!) and followed by the Americade (thousands of motorcycles). Never bought any tickets to see Elvis but we do go into town to look at the bikes. Fun and interesting.
Enjoy, Linda. We're going the other direction, to the Renaissance Festival. http://www.kyrenfaire.com/2017/02/22/...
Jim, now THAT sounds like fun. Been to one about 20 years ago. Enjoyed being outdoors, looking at all the attractions, people dressed in their costumes. Have a great time.
We went last year for the last weekend & had fun. Got to see the big jousting play. This year we're going for the first weekend. We might go another, but I think one will do me. It runs for 6 weekends. The kids (Erin & Josh) aren't in the group that does this, although they do something similar in the SCA, Society for Creative Anachronism. Fun stuff. The people are very knowledgeable & some of the artisans are fantastic. Last year, there were amazing copper ornaments. Some were dragons that were several feet long.
We had a great time at the Renaissance Festival. There was a bit of a play entering. The king had tell the sentry to open the gates & then we went in to a lot of singing. Later he & his court presided over the jousting & we got to pet the horses & talk to the knights. The vendors were all really nice. Many of them make their wares so it's great to talk to them. We watched a glass blower making a pumpkin & bought a glass Chinese dragon from him for my daughter-in-law for Xmas. (She collects them. A few years ago a shelf broke & she lost dozens.) The guy was so good he made the process look easy as he explained each step. We spoke to him more afterward & he told us all about the furnaces & kilns he uses. We had similar discussions with a blacksmith & leather workers.
Legacy Forge sells swords & spent quite a while talking to us about the various kinds. There weren't any woodworkers there. I might have to remedy that at some point in the future. I think it's expensive to get a space to rent there, but it might be worth it even if I don't make much. So many nice & fun people.
It is always a fun time to talk to the artists and see their wares. Sounds like this was one of the better R..festivals.
Got the S10, my farm pickup, working again. Turned out to be bad connections to the fuel pump I had replaced a few years back. Pulling the bed to get to it for the second time in a year kind of sucked, but the front end loader & Josh made it a lot easier than I thought it would be. Replacing it in 88 sunny degrees wasn't fun, though. I soaked through my shirt several times today. There are about a dozen hummingbirds now at the feeder on the back porch, but I'm rarely seeing any at the front porch. I'm not sure where they all suddenly came from, but we're guessing that we had 2 pairs who we rarely saw because of all the flowers that were blooming. Now their babies are out & about, so they've flooded the place.
Marg went to a horse show today & forgot to put on a hair net before she left, so she pulled a plastic bag that has some spares out of the trailer only to find a wren had a nest with 5 eggs in it! She put it back as close to how she found it as possible, but she was gone from about 6am to 1pm. I wonder if the mother will come back.

I did take some pictures & videos. I haven't put any up online yet, though. Most of the latter are too big to post.
Weird day today. We were hoping for rain & got a bit, but it was sunny & 90 this afternoon. High 80s (88) when I came in for dinner at 7:30. Then a big cloud came through & we got our rain for the day. It's now 8:30 & down to 65! Feels suddenly cold out. Oy!
Yesterday we were to meet a daughter about twenty five miles from our home to have a belated birthday dinner for me of catfish and hush puppies/slaw and navy beans..at a restaurant in Olathe, KS and when we got to the intersection there was a slew of police cars surrounding a wrecked bashed in car and ambulances and we had a hard time getting into the parking lot. We found out later a person had died in the crash and another one injured. Put a bit of sobering on our outing. Then today we went to our local Hallmark store and parked beside a downed light pole and learned later that a car had crashed up on the sidewalk and knocked it down after a police chase..We were originally supposed to go for my birthday to a tavern that makes yummy rhuben sandwiches and just before we were to go the owner was walking his dog a half mile from his business on a trail and he was murdered. They are still looking for the person who did it.. Life is scarey sometimes.

Very cool, Jim. Gives us a good feel for the event. Nice way to spend a day.

Certainly sobering. Very glad you and your family are ok. Let's hope for better days ahead.
Work today. Americade in area. They are having a cold rainy day. It's only 54 degrees right now. No sandals today. Shoes and warm socks for sure!!
We are OK and glad we missed being in these places just a bit earlier. This is not our movie post but last night saw one of the best movies ever..."Temple Grandin," and especially, Jim if you haven't see it I know you would like it as would you others. It is a movie that is inspiring. You can't believe this young Autistic young girl and then woman endured so many hardships and turned out to be an outstanding person and her accomplishment was beyond belief. So do watch it if you haven't already, It is based on a true story.
Inspiring movies - we all need them! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1278469/
Starring Claire Danes who I think is fabulous. I watch everything she is in.
Definitely adding this one to my list. Thanks much, Nina.
I'll move this post over to DVDS....

I hadn't realized she also wrote books. She was simply amazing. also saw a very good movie last night. These two movies make up for me sending some that I watched five minutes and then sent them back. This movie is "The Pursuit of Happyness," and that is not a mispelled word as that is the title. Based on a true story of a young man destitute who was caring for his young son and trying to get a job as a stockbroker.

Thanks, I might look and see if our library has them. Right now our library is almost off limits as their is terrible road construction leading up to it so that puts my library visit on hold.
Today we are packing. Rented a cottage on a semi-private pond an hour north of our home. Saturday to Saturday. Canoeing, fishing, watching sunsets, relaxing. Probably no swimming - will be tooooooo cold.
Have fun, Linda! We thought about going out tonight, but the kids went to some Comic Con, so we can't. Too many hungry animals that also need attention. 5 dogs in the house again. Thankfully their cats can stay at their house.
Besides your canoeing and fishing. Makes me miss our lake place we had for eleven years. It was situated right on the lakeside. We had three lots and twenty six acres; a sailboat, fishing boat and power boat. Not really large ones but fun to use nevertheless.
We are selling our 14-foot aluminum boat. Hanging on to the canoe (my favorite). No computer for a week - that's cool in itself.
Catch up with everyone in a week.
I've had a good, if tiring day. Josh & I started working on their fence by 7am, knocked off for a long lunch at 11am, & then put in another couple of hours in the afternoon before we got rained out. The hard, dusty clay instantly turned into slick goo with the first light shower. We had a couple of post holes open, so worked through that & then put in braces between them. Our feet turned into blocks of clay amazingly fast & the tool handles got really slick. Nasty stuff. My new post hole digger made the job a lot easier. We only have a few post holes left to dig, but need to pick up more shear pins (1/2"x5" bolts) since we burned through 3 of them today. Roots & rocks brought it to a sudden halt a few times, but we only had to dig out part of one hole by hand where we hit a cinder block buried in the backfill by the house. The PHD on the tractor made things go so much faster even though the ground was so hard that Josh had to hang on the tamping bar wedged over the top of the gearbox a few times to get the hole started. Yeah, the ground was that freaking hard.
The kids are coming up for dinner tonight, so that should be fun & I talked to both of the boys on the phone. They're both coming down in July & we were hoping to get everyone together at once, but schedules won't work out. Still, it will be nice to see them. Mom might come down, too.
Heard from all the kids Sunday as most are out of town and had dinner with our daughter, grandson and great grandson/four generations. Nice day. And Post hole digging is lots of work as I know that from my husband doing it. We had a huge storm here Sat. night and now roads still being cleared of downed trees.
