I'm not sure if I should leave this record alone or make changes. Can you give some guidance?

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13...

There is a GR record for an edition of Fauna and Family by Gerald Durrell in which:

- The ISBN matches the stated publisher (Simon & Schuster), BUT

- The publication year listed in GR (1980) doesn't match the book I have in hand (which is 1979), BUT there is a 1980 edition of the book with a different ISBN from a different publisher. Ordinarily I'd say that the GR record was just for a later printing of the book I have in hand, EXCEPT I haven't found a single record on the Web anywhere (libraries or bookseller sites, incl. ABE and Alibris) of either a 1980 Simon & Schuster edition of Fauna and Family or a 1980 edition of Fauna and Family with the ISBN of the book in GR. But I did find many examples of a 1980 edition from a different publisher with a different ISBN.

- The cover in GR record matches yet a third ISBN, publisher and year.

From the Librarian log and a publisher Web site, it looks like the cover was just added erroneously, and I feel confident the cover should be changed, but I'm not sure what to do about the publication year. The original source of the record was Ingram. Do I correct the GR pub year to be 1979 to be consistent with what I found? Or instead is it best to just create a new GR record for the edition I have in hand and leave the existing GR record just in case there is somewhere a book with that ISBN, publisher and publication year?

Lobstergirl Worldcat has the pub date for that edition as 1979.

Lobstergirl Here is the publisher's page for the Nonpareil and David Godine editions (Nonpareil is an imprint of David Godine). The maroon cover is theirs. Are you able to upload the cover you have in hand, or find it online?

Lobstergirl I see that David R. Godine (the Goodreads user) uploaded that image to the 1979 edition. I'm going to guess that's a mistake on their part. They probably meant to upload it to their own edition:

Thanks, Lobstergirl. I've got a cover for the 1979 edition that I can add.

re: the pub year, I think I was mainly concerned that the 1980 pub year just represented a later printing of the edition with that ISBN and that's why I was concerned about changing it. But since the original record didn't come from a user with a book on his/her lap and I couldn't find another book in any major catalogs or bookseller sites identified as both Simon & Schuster AND 1980, is changing the pub year to 1979 the best thing to do?

Lobstergirl I would say so. Worldcat is considered a pretty reliable cataloging source.
