He's more reminding himself that she is an assassin and trying to keep her at arms length. He is completely and utterly devoted to the crown and the prince. His loyalty is unquestioned and once own would never falter.
Celaena is winning his respect and more, he's fighting it hard, but in the end he'll come to respect and love her too.
I love the friendship between Chaol and Dorian, even if they've argued and had their ups and downs. I love Chaol in general and Sarah said that Chaol is the character who saw the world in black and white and to reply to Lucy in the 2nd post, that's the reason he was judgemental and couldn't let the assassin thing go until later on. All he acknowledged was that she killed people and since he's a authoritative official, it didn't sit well with him. But lets admit, he really grew out of that and began seeing the world for what it is and appreciated Celaena. I don't like his loyalty to the King but really it's to Dorian. He's torn between staying to Dorian or going against the King.

Thats a good song choice...

Someone finally said it, thank you! That whole Nehemia thing was ridiculous

Yup, I don't think it was..."
I totally agree! But anyway, couldn't she just...IDK... accept his apologies? Because I don't think she would have apologied to Chaol
While I agree she overreacted, I also think that he could have realized how she would react, considering her experiences, and thought his plan through a little more. Clearly, she doesn't trust well, he should have noticed that, and if it was the other way around, he would have reacted differently because he hasn't gone through what she has.

DON'T READ.More than agree with you. I like Chaol, like so much I must say. The differenes between he and Cealaena were what make of their relationship something good, make just balance. But, come on!!! He can´t be so blind about the reality of the world! How couldn´t he see that the king was the worst person ever????? And ok, le´ts forget about this, because Chaol´s intentions were good... but where is his comon sense ??? Is more thant obvious that Celaena is a good girl with a life that sucks! Is hard for her to trust!
Again, I could forget this... but please, the fear he feels about Celaena´s reality just pissed me! When Dorian told him his own choose about Aelyn (sorry, I don´t wanna give spoilers) I think "Dorian, thank you, claps for you!"
Noris wrote: "Samy wrote: "Am I the only one super super pissed at the direction Chaol is taking in this book T.T I love Chaol sooooo much. And HE IS THE ONE FOR CELAENA (I hope) but his fear of her is killing m..."Agree with both of you!
I am so scared for Chaol and Celaena in Book 4, because after Heir of Fire their relationship pretty much seems to be in shambles. Chaol can't accept Celaena for who she is, and Celaena finally took off Chaol's ring (a moment that had me screaming, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!) They're obviously going to have to work together now and I'm hoping they can find a way to mend their relationship.Team Chaol! I'll go down with this ship, guys.
The ring threw me a bit too, but I'm also reminded of the phrase, "If you love something, let it go. If it comes back to you, it's yours forever." Aelin has too much to do now to really worry about Chaol. It's all on him now. He's got to think about what's best for him, and if that is Aelin, he has to go after her. Of course that means he has to accept her for what and who she truly is. By the Wyrd, I hope he does. Go Team Chaol!
He was just scared that Aelin would destroy Adarlan, which is pretty acceptable considering that she almost killed him after the whole Nehemia incident
I think they both Celaena and Chaol have issues they need to work through. He hasn't accepted her fully, but she also can't seem to fully trust him.
I saw the ring thing as more symbolic than her being over Chaol. And even though it seems over, I saw plenty of hints in book three to make me think they're still endgame (even if Celaena and Chaol have almost given up).
I also have the uneasy feeling that Chaol going to seriously suffer soon.
Oh, and last thought on the whole mate thing in book three ... (view spoiler)

I NEED BROMANCE I NEED A BROMANCE AND IT NEEDS TO BE BETWEEN DORIAN AND CHAOL!SPOILER
but i hope that chaol is the one to save dorian, just so that they can see how much they still care for each other as friends! Ever since Cel came into the picture they've kinda drfited apart it was really sad to see! i just hope in the next book if chaol helps set dorian free he is there for him more than he was in the last book. Helps dorian get through the tramas he's going to have been through! :P
I'm a little worried about Chaol's survival in this. Aelin and Rowan are Fae, Aedion is Demi-Fae. Dorian has Pure Magic. Chaol is only human and therefore the most vulnerable.
Can I now cry how steadfast Chaol's loyalty and love are? He's the vulnerable one, but he wants to protect them all. ♥
I agree with @Alice I want there to be some bromance thing with Chaol and Dorian. I hate how much their friendship has drifted apart it's so sad. Chaol should be the one to save Dorian, or Celaena if not. I am a Celorian shipper but I like Celaena and Chaol just fine too. But there needs to be a big bromance between Chaol and Dorian in QoS!!!
Yes, I agree with so many of the opinions recently posted! I was a total diehard fan of Chaol until HoF. Seriously, he was just so frigging dreamy in Throne of Glass, I almost died. But then sh*t hit the fan, and now everything is messed up with him and Celaena, and I guess he's just being a wimp. But do you know who I love more now? ROWAN! God he is a hot fae.
I love him even more after Heir of Fire, especially because of how realistic his character is and how much he values friendship. Not even the love of his life can come first when Dorian is concerned and I think that's truly remarkable ☺️
Oh, I love love love Chaol for how he chose Dorian over Celaena. People always complain nowadays about how every character chooses romance over family or friends and then Chaol comes a long, so perfect with his imperfections, and suddenly no one wants family or friendship over romance anymore! Suddenly no one wants flawed characters anymore! Why the sudden change of mind people?Which is why I'm liking the look of QoS, he's convinced he can save Dorian. She's not and is instead focusing on saving Aedion, apparently.
And there's no Rowan.
It's PERFECT
mmmm She's more focused on Aedion because is her cousin? Her only relative alive? The person she loved like a brother when they were kids? I get what you say but I think every character in this book has its flaws. Chaol, Dorian, Rowan, Aelin, they are all flawed and yet they are incredibly amazing.
I agree that Aedion will be her first priority, but she will save Dorian in the end because of her promise. I think she and Chaol will save them both together.
Of course she's gonna save Dorian at the end, I'm just reciting the review that states he's not her top priority.
Ah, it's okay. Sorry if I came across as rude, Kate. We only have one more month to finally read the book, I'm very excited :D
There's going to be plenty of Rowan. He gets his own POV and apparently there's going to be a reunion between him and Aelin.I love the Chaol/Dorian relationship. It's one of my favorites in the series :)
That said I'm glad that Aelin isn't going to try too hard to save Dorian. As far as she know that's impossible and well, she has more important things to do.
Sigh! So many people abandoning the Chaelin ship. While I agree that Rowan is the ideal partner for Aelin, I cannot, in my heart of hearts, give up on Chaol. #TeamChaolWestfall
And I really can't see Aelin and Rowan having a romantic relationship. I think that Dorian will end up being her mate because of all the hints Sarah has put in HoF, like how Chaol said they needed a healer as a queen and Aelin has some healing powers. Also when Rowan and Aelin were talking about mates Rowan mentioned not ever being able to hurt his mate and Celaena tried killing Chaol, and not to mention that Chaol said himself that while Celaena will always choose him, Aelin would not. Dorian is endgame!
Hi Kate, I think just like you, I mean, with all the Chaol choice and people exaggerating about him. So much hate on Chaol, oh my... why? I want to see Chaorian as much as I want to people stop complaining about the Aelin vs Chaolaena thing.P.S. Don't hate me, but Rowan is not the awesomeness god for me.
There is a lot of people who don't hate Chaol you know? I don't, personally I'm just a little disappointed on him after Heir of Fire. I'm hoping to see his full character growth in QoS so I can love him again
I don't hate him, he just need to grow that's it. By the way, I think the endgame is just between Chaol or Rowan. I would love both. Honestly I don't like the idea of a romance between Aelin and Dorian, that would be so boring and predictable. Chaol and Rowan don't have a kingdomn of their own but both really DESERVE to have it. They have the qualities of an amazing leader. Loyalty and honor in the first place. So both deserve to be with Aelin
For me the first priority of Aelin is to recover the wyrdkey and after that rescue Aedion and Dorian.
Kate wrote: "Oh, I love love love Chaol for how he chose Dorian over Celaena. People always complain nowadays about how every character chooses romance over family or friends and then Chaol comes a long, so per..."did you just say rowan isnt gonna be in qos?
he's got his own pov and there are quotes released where he is talking to aelin...
I also don't see how Dorian and Aelin can be endgame. 1. He moved on.2. the only thing he remembers (spOILER) with the collar on is Sorscha.
3. IF he is saved, he's going to be extremely disoriented and confused (anyone read strange angels by lili st. crow? remember graves after being controlled by the bad guy? yeah..he had to LEAVE. He didn't get the girl)
ALSO GUYS LIKE I REALLY WISH DORIAN AELIN IS ENDGAME BUT THE REALITY OF IT HAPPENING IS SO LOW IM
lastly, i think aelin should just rule alone and be a badass queen by herself cause the series isn't about romance *shrugs*
Morrisa wrote: "i also can't wait for aelin and manon reunion THE BADASSERY IM DEAD"SAME MAYBE THEY'RE ENDGAME
