message 117: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (littlenatalie) I'm finally reading Jane Austen. I've done P&P. Now on Persuasion. Interested in Mansfield Park and S&S also. But not certain on Emma & Northanger Abbey... Incites on these 2 are welcome to help encourage my interest...

message 118: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 229 comments Emma is great if you love imperfect characters she can be a little mean if I recall correctly she is not Jane or Elizabeth, Northanger Abbey is on my list to read a swell the only one i haven't done if you liked wuthering heights you will love emma.
R u reading the classics if so we should chat I have a whole list and have read quite a few.

LOTR is great. The movie is nothing like the books. the ending of Return of the King was really shortened and (SPOILER) when Sam's wife dies he follows Frodo across the sea.

message 120: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (littlenatalie) Right now, I'm just working on Jane Austen, but I have aspirations of reading as much as I can. I am open to all kinds of suggestions. I've always loved Great Expectations though; one of my favorite classics.

You have to read TKAM! It starts slow and the background may seem a bit pointless but persevere as it's a wonderful, wonderful book.

I decided many years ago that I should read Dante's Divine Comedy. After I purchased it I realized it was one bloody big poem. I made it a few pages in, but it sits in a bookcase unread. I like to think I'll get to it one day but in reality it seems like awfully hard work. I'd also like to finish The Canterbury Tales at some point.

message 122: by Michael (new)

message 126: by Brittany (new)

Brittany Perry | 229 comments I love Jane Austin read all her books the thing to do is read it when you're waiting on a new release. that is what I do. I get the classics in between the newbies. But I read a book a day so I have a lot of extra time.

message 127: by Mariah Monique (new)

Mariah Monique (mariahmonique) | 7 comments Perks of Being A Wallflower, A Song Of Ice and Fire Series, a Series of Unfortunate Events, and so much more. I have a pretty extensive list, written out and in my drawer.

message 128: by Jon (new)

Jon (jon17) | 82 comments The Harvard Classics, The Great Books, The complete Lincoln biography by Sandburg, etc...

message 129: by Boo (new)

Boo Walker (boowalker) Philip Roth!

message 130: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (missie322) Ok so here's a few I need to still read:

~ Gone With the Wind
~ Scarlett
~ War and Peace
~ The second and third book of the Girl with the Tattoo trilogy

I haven't read TLOTR series or Harry Potter but I doubt I ever will.

Have read a couple of Jane Austen's books but I hate reading them. Am I the only one on Earth?

message 131: by McLendon (new)

McLendon | 4 comments Oh man, this is a long long list. I'm not even sure I can list them all, but I'll give it a try:

- Ulysses by James Joyce
- Glass Bead Game by Hesse
- Moby Dick
- Sherlock Holmes
- 1984 & Animal Farm
- Brave New World
- The Book Thief
- Chronicles of Narnia
- Life of Pi

That's probably an overlong list as it is. I haven't read (or finished reading) any Jane Austen books, but it's not my scene. I find them painfully slow.
