What do you like to read, Rose? Any particular genre, or just generic YA? What is your favourite book?

Sorry, I'm just the curious, pushy type :P

Most of the professors went for this training course overseas and I think most of them caught a disease or sth so they're not allowed to teach for at least a week. They came for the first few days but things didn't go too well for them...so, next week! We still have our assignments to finish up on though...

Cathy M. (mccathy77) First off, thank you for the invite Soraya!

My name is Cathy from Los Angeles, CA. I pretty much read anything from YA to contemporary romance to erotica. I especially love emotional and angsty books, and more recently find that I'm drawn to the dark and crazy stories. Just anything with a great plot that holds my interest is good for me! Look forward to finding more books/recommendations from all of you, and to chat with you in this group!

I'm wiht you on that one i tend to lean more to the stories that are dealing with something dark and serious but i also love the ones with alot of feeling, angst and emotion like you said

message 163: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) Yay, glad we have that in common Ashley! I'm sure there are a lot of people in this group that feel the same :)

message 166: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah Hey everyone. I think I'm a masochist reader because I have read so much crap books in my life so far. Even my low rating on my GR profile states this. Not only that but I'm such a completest which means that I always see a shit book to the end (which is my biggest reading flaw). And I often get quite angry when I really start to think about shit books.

message 167: by [deleted user] (new)

That's unfortunate. I've read so many truly wonderful books in the last few years. I hope you find something you enjoy :)

message 168: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah that's my new years resolution. so far so good. read wonderful books so far for Jan.

message 169: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah check the types of books I read and want to read on my profile. This year I'm trying to digest the classics. please send some recommendations, but please not those YA or urban fantasy books. I like weird stuff like that film Donnie Darko.

message 170: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah BDSM lit isn't my cup of tea, but is the sex/erotica legit though? Read a PDF of Fifty Shades of Grey and I hated it. Review pending.

message 171: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah I only read it out of curiosity and the fact that it exceeded LOTR, HP and HG in terms of sales. And why women find Grey sexy. He isn't hot, just an extreme jerk.

message 172: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah well said. I read somewhere in a magazine that there is a book called Dante's inferno with the same BDSM component. Such as a dumb sub, like Ana and a stalkerish guy like Christian. But its placed within the university context. Don't feel so good about that. :(

message 173: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah I'm assuming its boring then? As for FSOG, I only hate it because it downplays abuse and its laced with distorted stereotypes of "dominant" men and "virginal" girls. Never had issues with BDSM in general, because I'm fully aware that these relationships are mainly fantasy based and/or roleplay based. Hate it when fangirls defend this tripe and say that haters hate the series because of the sex. It isn't true. That's just something I wanted to point out.

message 174: by Aliyah (new)

Aliyah yeah, books that screw with your mind. Mindfuckery in other words.

message 175: by Mary (new)

Mary | 1 comments Hi I'm Fiona. I'm new to goodreads and recently came across this group when I was searching for groups to join. I love to read, it's basically all I do. This group looks like it would be alot of fun to be a part of and I'm excited to meet new friends.

message 176: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Evans | 9 comments Hello! My name is Danielle, and I love to read (and write) anything dark and depressing. Most of my favorite books (Atonement, The Road) and movies are incredibly sad and emotionally moving. The more melancholy a story is, the more beautiful I usually find it be as well.

Anyway, I'm glad I found this group. I already found a new book to read: I just started Diane Rinella's Love's Forbidden Flower.

Hope to hear about some more! :)

message 177: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Evans | 9 comments Thanks! Same here. ;)

message 178: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Evans | 9 comments I literally just started reading Love's Forbidden Flower, which seems pretty good so far. I have to admit it's a bit out of my comfort zone, but it probably helps that I don't have a brother. ;)

I hate it when I'm too busy to read! Hope you find some time soon!

message 183: by Miss (new)

Miss | 1 comments Hello! Excited to have found this group :) I am what is often described as an angst wh0re. Love it, can't get enough rec's. Favorite authors of mine that deal out the heavy stuff are Joey Hill, R. Lee Smith, Tiffany Riez, CJ Roberts, and the occasional indie author who knows what they are doing.

message 184: by Domino (aka Meme) (new)

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 52 comments welcome Miss! i haven't read a book by Joey Hill yet and i own one. just haven't had a chance to read it. i'll definitely have to move it up after ur post =D

message 185: by Maggie (new)

Maggie (metgirl) | 1 comments Here I am just found my new genre, trying to lose myself in the Darker side of books. I love books with a lot of mindfuckery... Books that make my heart ache and my head want to explode. I hope to find more recommendations here!

Brandi (bwsmith) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Brandi, a 27 year old from the US. I don't know what I would do if I couldn't read - my sanity is grateful to all the wonderful authors out there who help me keep up with my addiction. I love reading stories full of raw, angsty emotion.

message 188: by Cornelia (new)

Cornelia | 3 comments hi everyone, i'm a sucker for angsty and heartbreaking stories with at least a bit of romance in there, i am a girl after all, i love romance... i don't know why i put myself through this, but every time i read such a book, i promise i will not read another one of the same type, i have enough problems of my own, i don't need to add the problems the books' characters have. but still, i can't stop doing it. i'm addicted. the more broken and the sadder the book, the faster i read. i've been known to not sleep until i finish the book i started.
i need either suggestion for new dark, full of angst books, or a referral for a good shrink. i can't afford the shrink so you know what to do...

You could try the BDSM Quiz: http://quizfarm.com/quizzes/Sex/poeti...

You'd see how much masochist you are. ;)

message 192: by Cornelia (new)

Cornelia | 3 comments thanks Danny, but I was thinking this kind of masochism in this discussion, when you know you're gonna get emotional with a read and yet you keep reading. :D

message 193: by At least I read (new)

At least I read (atleastiread) | 1 comments Hi my name is Ang, I am 41, a wife and mother of 3 boys. Oldest 22 youngest is 6. I home school my youngest 2 boys and need my books to escape to! I get a lot of flack for wanting to read books that are dark and troublesome. I love to cry when I read. I love to feel something when I read. Not that I don't enjoy light hearted books but the ones I really love bring me to a deep dark place that breaks my heart.

message 194: by Danny (new)

Danny Tyran (danny_) | 15 comments Bienvenue Ang!

Domino (aka Meme) (bryghtstarr) | 52 comments welcome Ang. i'm right there with ya on the feelings in the books i read =D

message 196: by Eva (new)

Eva (maheva) | 1 comments Hi, my name is Eva, I am 28 and I am addicted to books (it sounds like an AA introduction...but I am not good at describing myself). I like many kinds of books from historical romance with highlanders (guilty pleasure) to dark erotica to horror book. I like when a book makes me feel uncomfortable or makes me question myself. I am glad I have found this group and will make sure to look closely at the bookshelf.

message 197: by Christina (new)

Christina | 1 comments I'm Christina. I'm a total book junkie. If it's dark, twisted and totally fucks with your heart/head, I fall in love.

I'm looking to make some friends to buddy read and/or simply talk about the books, suggest books and the like because people who don't read don't seem to understand the uncontrolled sobbing that can come from some reading!

message 198: by Daphne (new)

Daphne Delacroix Hey everyone, I'm Daphne and I love mindfuck books! All these stories based on real problems and stuff, but always fiction of course. The only think is, I usually can't deal with a book that has a sad or unsatisfying ending. Sometimes it's possible, but other times...not so much.
