Elaine Hill This story and the perfect, evocative writing has so touched and punctured my heart that I seem unable to allow myself to know how it ends and I've reread it. I need help and yes it will have to be a spoiler alert

Mary Clare Did she stay with her family or go back with the Kinsellas?

Hugo M Oooh - that's the wonderful tantalising dilemma we are left with.

What I want to happen is that she continues to be sent to the Kinsellas for the holidays and gradually builds a new life on that sound foundation.

What I fear is that her father's envy and jealousy stop her from ever seeing them again. I love books where you care so much about the characters that you just have to know what happens next - even if the only recourse is to imagine it yourself
