Did you think The Hobbit was pretty slow for a while?

I, personally, thought it started out slow. I couldn't get into until around page 50, more or less. I'm glad I kept reading it, though, because I really got into it after that. The story was fast-paced, fun, and exciting after page 50 or so.
I first attempted to read this book in 1990 for a book report, I didn't finish the book. Not finishing a book is not something I typically do. To say the least, the book did not impress me in middle school. I thought I might try to watch the movies and then read the books, but I would always fall asleep when I tried to watch them. So I had the wonderful idea to try to read the book again
So I was determined to read The Hobbit again. And again, I did not like this book the second time around but did make myself finish.
The book is childish for me. and they drag on forever and ever.
I'm not sure if I should even give the movie another shot.
I don't remember it having a slow start. I remember enjoying all the dwarves popping in and having different color hats. And Bilbo making them dinner... wasn't that the beginning? I loved it.
Angie, I feel the same as you. I liked it from the beginning and I think that was the beginning or close to it.
