Ariana (anaxbigd) | 14 comments I believe this one already exists...although, to clarify, is it a 17-verse poem (per the website) or a 19-verse poem (per the existing Goodreads entry)?

message 3: by Janette (new)

Janette Dean (authorjanette) | 10 comments Whoops, 17 is right! But when I searched for In Defense of Cats (with or without the exclamation point) on the site search, it didn't seem to come up:

No results found - sorry!

Looking for a book?
•Search by both title and author, and double-check the spelling.
•Try searching by ISBN.

Ariana (anaxbigd) | 14 comments I've got it...'Defense' is actually spelled 'Defence'. I'm supposing because it says it is the 'British English Version'. Should I change the spelling/remove that it's the British English Version?

I also changed 19 to 17 and added the cover.

message 5: by Janette (new)

Janette Dean (authorjanette) | 10 comments Hi Ariana,

That is the tricky part. I have two versions, one for British readers in the UK and one for American readers, but on Good Reads, I thought I would post the American English version.

If we list both, I would link to the British cover at http://www.indefenceofcats.co.uk

Both books are listed at:
http://www.amazon.com/Janette-Noelle-...

What do you suggest?

message 6: by Janette (new)

Janette Dean (authorjanette) | 10 comments FYI: I also updated my older Good Reads profile (not Facebook-based) to have a new photo and not the old book cover.

message 7: by Ariana (new)

Ariana (anaxbigd) | 14 comments Okay. I corrected the BEV cover art, added the AEV and included a librarian note about it being an alternate version to the BEV (I couldn't give both of them the same ASIN), added the appropriate cover for that one, and combined the two editions so that they are linked. Everything good?

AEV: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17...

message 8: by Janette (new)

Janette Dean (authorjanette) | 10 comments Thank you so much for all that work; the only thing is now (after the combining) the British edition gets listed via Search and my Author page so I think we should just delete the British one to be safe, (unless there's a way to put the American one in the forefront)? Can we also add the exclamation point to the title? We can also delete the 17 Verse Poem part, too.

Thanks again for all your help with this tricky listing!!!

message 9: by Emy (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments If the British edition exists, we don't delete it - someone may want to add their copy after all... :)

You can alter the edition that shows first yourself from you author dashboard, however.

No. Here's how: http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/31...

message 11: by Janette (new)

Janette Dean (authorjanette) | 10 comments Thank you, Rivka. That link helped me find it, and I have set the American English version as the default!

Thanks also to Emy and Ariana!

You're all so fast and so helpful. Happy New Year! You'll hear from me in about another 2 weeks when I finish the cover for my other new poem.

message 12: by Janette (new)

Janette Dean (authorjanette) | 10 comments So sorry, but I saw my ASIN number was on the wrong version. These are the correct ASINS:

In Defence of Cats! (British) = ASIN: B005FNQJ5M
In Defense of Cats! (American) = ASIN: B005FMPHI8

Both are 28 pages.

Thanks again! Also I put the words "cat book" and cat poem" as tags but I would like to add just "cats" and the genre Animals. I will try to do that myself again.

message 13: by Paula (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Done

You cannot add tags to books - you can only add your books to your bookshelves with those names

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Psst...claim your author profile ... Nevermind. Looks like there are a regular profile for you and one for goodreads author "Janette Noelle Dean" -- aren't we supposed to ask staff to merge over on that thread?

message 15: by Ariana (new)

Ariana (anaxbigd) | 14 comments If they are indeed the same person, I would do that: head over to the correct thread and request it of the GR staff.

message 16: by Paula (last edited Jan 10, 2013 03:02PM) (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments No the user needs to claim the author profile IF they want to which they have, people can have more than one profile

message 17: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Jan 10, 2013 03:33PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments There is a claimed goodreads author profile. I did not know goodreads allowed you to have two profiles; good to know.

Actually, since possible to have two profiles I can see where useful to authors to rate each of their book editions once on their author profile and once on their own regular profiles. So, if had 4 editions of a book, rated by two profiles = 8 ratings and even though no regular members added moves book ahead on the shelves, genres, recommendations and requires superlibrarian for some edits since more than 5 "raings." Curious how the author groups aren't touting with the you-tag/review-mine and I'll do yours drives they do.

I misread the help screens and thought the multiple profiles were strictly pen name use.

Joe Stamber | 1 comments Looked for the right place to bring this up but in the new books section was told it was closed. I've added as a new addition to Dead Simple the audio version as it wasn't there in other editions. However, it never appeared as another edition, only as a separate book. What is the point of allowing us to add a new addition if it then appears as an unrelated addition?

I've combined it with the other editions. Is it OK now.

EDIT: It looks like open season on Roy Grace. Anyway it is now combined.

That actually would be a violation of GR policy. Authors are welcome to maintain additional profiles, as long as those profiles do not rate the author's works.

And any time you believe a specific individual to be violating GR policy, the contact us link on the help page would be your go-to spot.

message 22: by lafon حمزة (new)

lafon حمزة نوفل (lafon) | 3544 comments Joe, the newly added books do not automatically get combined. It needs to manually done by a librarian. I believe that the reason that rivka closed that thread is it was becoming unwieldy, and hard to keep track of. Posting a request in a thread with a completely different topic can also confuse certain librarians. In essence, if in doubt, create a new thread. I have combined this one. Also links to the new edition, or ISBNs along with links to the old editions are usually helpful.

Janette Dean (authorjanette) | 10 comments Yes, I accidentally logged in with Facebook tied to Janette @ yahoo.com (forgetting I already had an account from the past tied to info @ indefenseofcats.com which is the account that has the books on my Author Bookshelf). I had already just joined the Librarian group with my new Facebook-tied account though to post my request to add my book (but it was already in the system as I mentioned I forgot). Sorry for the duplicate accounts and any confusion!!! Please tell me if I need to do anything or delete anything.

That is sufficiently complicated that I would suggest you contact Customer Support with full details of all your Facebook and Goodreads accounts (no passwords). They will be able to merge them (if you want) or detach them from Facebook (if you want). Librarians have no contact with that stuff.

message 25: by Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) (last edited Jan 12, 2013 07:07PM) (new)

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments And I certainly did not see Janette in violation of anything or doing anything wrong. I just asked because I was so used to just seeing author's regular reader profile merged when claiming author profile. When I clicked her profile thumbnail it did not go to her author page—so wasn't sure how there were two profiles or if goodreads allowed or if it meant something goofy was going on with her profile causing her to have problems editing her books or author page.

I can also see two profiles being useful to an author who just wanted to participate in groups and social features on goodreads as strictly a fellow reader without the group being worried about book promotions.
