Jill H. (bucs1960) That really looks like an interesting book, Mike. May have to go on my TBR list.

Alisa (mstaz) Mike I cheer on your progress and always enjoy reading your reviews. Your recap of Blinded by the Sight made me laugh! Hilarious.

It was funny Mike.

Jill H. (bucs1960) Love your reviews, Mike.....but sometimes you just have to give a failing grade. I think I gave an "F" last year on a real stinker. It makes you wonder how they got a publisher.

Mike, you may want to add some photo as an avatar - favorite place, flowers, pets, an event - just so your avatar shows up - right now with the blank icon change - it is washed out.

Krystal (queenravenclaw) Wow Mike 159 books in one year incrdible? I wonder how you find the time? With all my commitments i've only been able to read 15/30.

Thanks for the review. I saw the authors on C-Span and marked the book as a to-read.

Bryan Craig Good to know, Mike, thanks for your review. I wonder if Dallek felt obligated to write something for the 50th, although I think he uses some new primary sources. It is always a joy to read his stuff.

Craig (twinstuff) I met (my former college professor) Dallek at a summer conference last year and his knowledge about Cold War politics and Presidencies of that time period is unmatched. He's an unbelievable teacher (now retired) although I will say I think his writing style isn't the most riveting.

I read a similar book that made me laugh but was also a little scary.

Don't Go There! The Travel Detective's Essential Guide to the Must-Miss Places of the World by Peter Greenberg by Peter Greenberg (no photo)

Bryan Craig Thanks, Mike, your citation needs to be adjusted, though.

I.e., no need to include the book title link.

message 66: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Craig Still has a author photo showing up there.

message 67: by Jill H. (new)

Jill H. (bucs1960) You must be a speed reader with a Kindle, a Nook, and a hardback book all going at the same time. Great numbers, Mike!!!!

message 68: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Craig I agree, Mike, wow, you are a huge reader and that is great. I'm averaging a book a month.

message 69: by Jill H. (new)

Jill H. (bucs1960) Hooray, I have found another old schooler.....no electronics for me either. I like the feel of a book. I always have two books going.....one history and one mystery.
A friend of mine who is also old school received a Kindle from his partner because he was always leaving books on airplanes (he travels a lot). He didn't particularly want it but didn't want to hurt her feelings. The first time he went on a trip, he left the Kindle!!!! It wasn't meant to be.

Bryan Craig Hmmm...yikes, how mediocre.

Mike, you are a reading juggernaut! 229 books in a year is amazing! Congratulations and on to 2014.

Jill H. (bucs1960) Mike.....you are making the rest of us look like pikers!!! What a great year of reading you had and I love your reviews. We will be setting up the 2014 challenge very soon.
