J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) | 24 comments Well, my Kindle broke right before Christmas, so I've delved into the pile of paperbacks I've been meaning to read. At the mo, I'm kinda struggling through: Pretty Amy by Lisa Burstein

Haha. Yeah I had to stop reading (life calls) after that and I know I won't be able to stop once I pick it back up. So I'm trying to wait until I have enough time to read it in one sitting.

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) | 24 comments It's a bummer how life gets in our way, eh?

Yes!!

message 11: by Anna (new)

Anna I am jealous, Tiff! Is it as good as the first one?

I've been reading The Sole Regret series by Olivia Cunning. :P

Judith Post | 116 comments I'm almost finished with Renhala by Amy Joy Lutchen . Won it on Jen's site. A fun read!

message 13: by Lola (new)

Lola (lolasreviews) | 17 comments I loved Renhala, it really is an amazing book.
I am currently reading Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Daughter of Smoke and Bone #1) by Laini Taylor . I have heard so many good things about it, but actually had no idea where the book was about before starting it. I am not that far in yet, but so far I really like it.

message 14: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 116 comments I loved Renhala too. Really original! And great characters.

J.A. Belfield (jabelfield) | 24 comments I finished Pretty Amy, and have just opened up: Toxic (Denazen, #2) by Jus Accardo
Had it ages and just hadn't gotten around to it yet.

message 17: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 116 comments Finished River Marked (Mercedes Thompson, #6) by Patricia Briggs . Working on a friend's manuscript now. Love his writing! Hope it's available some day soon.

Has anyone read any foodie books lately? It has been a while for me but I'm missing it so I'll have to read one soon.

message 21: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 116 comments Not a straight-on foodie book, but I started Web of Lies (Elemental Assassin, #2) by Jennifer Estep , and Jennifer Estep loves food and cooking, you can tell. Food is treated lovingly in the book.

message 22: by Tina (new)

Tina Culbertson (tinaculbertson) Andrea wrote: "I am reading How to Eat a Cupcake by Meg Donohue"

This is on my list - do you like it?

message 23: by Kelsey (new)

Kelsey dossa (mrs_lopez2011) | 3 comments I am reading Goodnight Beautiful by Dorothy Koomson

message 24: by Dana (new)

Dana (danabritt) I just finished Tapestry of Fortunes by Elizabeth Berg and there was lots of food in the story. One of the characters was a chef...the group stopped at food places along their road trip...good food talk throughout the book.

Judith Post | 116 comments I just finished The Weird Sisters by Eleanor Brown and the youngest sister became obsessed with baking breads. It was an interesting part of her character development.

Judith Post | 116 comments Just wondered, what are your favorite cookbooks? The ones you use the most?

message 27: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) | 289 comments Mod
I have a ton of cookbooks but honestly when I'm looking for something new I always go online. It's a little ridiculous lol.

Dana (danabritt) Judith wrote: "Just wondered, what are your favorite cookbooks? The ones you use the most?"

My current fave cookbooks are Pioneer Woman's Food From My Frontier and John Besh's My Family Table--I actually read cookbooks, too--John Besh's is a great read, I learned a lot. However, like Jen said, I often browse recipes online.

message 29: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 116 comments I have a ton of cookbooks, too, but I end up using the Barefoot Contessa's more than the others. Most of her recipes are easy to make and my odds are good that we'll love the food, but for new recipes, I get the foodnetwork magazine every month, and something always catches my eye. And I love sandwiches--so I print out The Sandwich King's recipes almost every Sunday on foodtv.

message 30: by Amanda (new)

Amanda | 15 comments It sounds funny but my favorite cookbook is my mother-in-laws. When my husband moved away she made him up a book of his favorite recipes and he has me hooked on some of the desserts. I'll have to check out The Sandwhich King's recipes. We need to throw something new into the mix.

message 31: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 116 comments I think it's so sweet that you love your mother-in-law's cookbook. I made a collection of fast, easy recipes I make to give to one my cousins and one of my friends. Then my grandson asked me for it. It's nice to make meals that remind you of good times around your kitchen table.

Yesterday I read The Walking Dead, Vol. 1 Days Gone Bye by Robert Kirkman . Kind of strange that I read my first comic book at 30, haha.

message 33: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 116 comments Did they have recipes?:) Lightly breaded, sauteed brain? Tongue sandwiches? A long time ago, a bunch of horror writers made a cookbook to raise money and my friend bought it. Good recipes--odd titles. Lots of fun.

message 34: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) | 289 comments Mod
Haha. No, that one didn't have any recipes.

That sounds like an awesome cookbook!

message 35: by Judith (new)

Judith Post | 116 comments I wish I'd have bought one. Dawn doesn't have hers anymore, too many moves. It got lost in the shuffle. But I still remember glancing through it. You should have seen the illustrations:)

Janel Gradowski (janelgradowski) | 25 comments I'm in the middle of Dolci di Love. I like the secondary characters and plot, but I don't like the main character. Having a hard time finishing it for that reason.

message 37: by Jen (new)

Jen (jenlr) | 289 comments Mod
Bummer! I have that one but haven't gotten around to reading it. Maybe I'll put it off even longer Haha

message 38: by Janel (new)

Janel Gradowski (janelgradowski) | 25 comments Well, the setting is beautifully described and the politics within the widows' society is charming. Even though it has been explained why the MC is acting the way she does, I still don't have any sympathy for her and I'm really not sure why. Maybe because she is an intelligent woman and she acts very stupidly.
