R.J. Askew (rjaskew) | 855 comments Your kitchen table, a box room, your mobile? Do you have a view over a lake, a city park, a canal, the sea? Is your cat sleeping on chair next to you? Give us a few dabs .. a glimpse of your reality.

I am in a cluttered 1st flr study in a late Victorian house with railings outside. There is a broken lamp to the right of my pc and a heap of my son's revision notes for an exam to the left. My dau is hovering around with her hamster trying to distract me ..

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Currently I am in the kitchen cooking a load of chicken for hubby to eat during the week. The little square table is cluttered with stuff as is the counter beside the sink (I'll do the dishes later). I have no view from here but if I got up and looked out the window I'd see a car park surrounding a little communal green area that is kept nice and tidy by the company that looks after the development.

The dog just came in and sniffed around trying to find the source of the chicken smell. He won't be getting any.

Tim | 8539 comments I'm in the back room upstairs, installing software on my iMac. Earlier today I was in town on my iPad, and later tonight I might be downstairs in front of the telly on my iPad.

If there was daylight, out of the window of my early 90s mid-terrace cornflake box I would see a small unkempt garden that has been rendered almost uninhabitable by an obnoxious amount of neighbourhood cat shit. I hate cats.

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments Geoff calls it my cave. It really is quite a cave.

I'm under a bed, facing a wall and I have a kitchen work top as a very long desk. Either side of me is two Ikea drawers and I am literally squared into a little space beside my black PC (why did I go for freaking black again? I can't see shite without 3 lights on!)

Have you considered one of those handy little halogen lamps you can tie round your head like a miner's lamp?

Tim | 8539 comments They're all LEDs these days. But bloody useful nonetheless!

I hear lion shit is supposed to be very good for repelling cats .. I wonder if it attracts lions though?

What a fantastic idea! it would probably be the best idea. it's so dark in here.

message 10: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Tried it. Tried all sorts of different smelly things: Didn't work. Electrified chicken wire might do the trick though...

R.J. Askew (rjaskew) | 855 comments There's a box set of MADMEN on a shelf above .. yep, that is deffo my wife's

Hmmm, now I look, there is a fine patina of dust on most of the shelves in my den here.

message 12: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I also picked black drawers - they attract dust like CRAZY
i do them once a week on a sunday and it looks like i haven't cleaned them for months

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I am typing at my desk. Its covered in stuff. I have a printer desk which is covered in stuff. The floor around me is covered in stuff. The entire living room is covered in piles of stuff. On the wall in front of me to my right, between the window and the door, is a painting. It was done by my mother and is of 3 candles and a vase of flowers in a church window. It is not covered in stuff.

message 14: by Tim (new)

Tim | 8539 comments Sounds much like my house - even the piles of stuff are covered in stuff...

message 15: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeldiack) | 180 comments I'm typing at my work desk in Oman. Got three computer screens in front of me, one loaded up with Facebook, one with Goodreads and one with Twitter. I do a quick ninja style close of the webpages whenever the boss looks.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments What, Michael, no boss key? I'm shocked.

message 17: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I'm now in work.

I have 2 screens in front of me (1 with Goodreads and the other with actual work stuff). I have 6 huge TV screens to my left on the wall blazing down on me radiating light and heat, displaying various webpages showing the state of all our systems. Although 1 of them is just displaying a white page, should probably fix that.

There's a lot of stuff around but my desk is mostly clear. I have perfume, lip gloss, 2 bottles of hand cream and 1 bottle of hand sanitiser on my desk. Oh! Almost forgot my Minnie Mouse mug :o)

Windows are behind me, as is my boss and the guy in the office who avoids me.

There's not really much else to tell you about my work place.

message 18: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments I'm in the office right now, half a dozen clients' promotional desk calendars clustered round the monitor until I decide which I like best enough to actually use. Spare copies of the last issue of the magazine underneath my keyboard, to remind me that I need to post them to an advertiser.

When I came in, they'd installed some updates overnight and the IT guy swapped my mouse to the right hand side of my keyboard again. I fear I will never be able to express the extent to which this irritates me without sounding petty.

I may do this again this evening from home. Rather different.

Vanessa (aka Dumbo) (vanessaakadumbo) | 8459 comments I'm sitting on my sofa in my lounge with my laptop on one of those little folding plastic tables, which is just right as you can adjust the height and it pushes around easily. There's enough room for the mouse next to it, which I have to use as the buttons and the finger pad don't work on the laptop. It's an old secondhand one and a few things don't work on it, but it's better than nothing. As long as I can surf the web and get on our forum I'm alright.

R.J. Askew (rjaskew) | 855 comments I have my porridge bowl to one side of the PC .. my 15 yr old has an English gcse module this morning and woke with a gripe .. so I had to drive him in .. my porridge is now stone cold and I am sooooo late

message 21: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I always post from my end of the sofa (which reclines) with my laptop on my lap top! On my right is a small coffee table which contains my kindle and the latest cup of tea/coffee as my whim dictates. on the cushion on my left is my diary. Continuing to look left I can see (past a couple of budgies) into the front garden. Right looks into the dining room. Chickens beyond that!

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I am still in bed and posting on my tablet. I can hear birds in the chimney. Was an amazing squawking a couple of minutes ago - not sure what is going on. Apart from that its very quiet here.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I'm posting from a classroom. On my iPad.

No class in here at the moment so it's very quiet.

To my left is a window overlooking the car park where I can see wet, slushy snow falling.

Justine M Dunn (Juzzadunn) | 9 comments I'm sitting at a makeshift desk drinking a glass of sparkling water with fresh lemon and trying not to swallow the pips.

I should be doing promo stuff for my ebook, but chatting on Goodreads, facebook and Blog is much more fun...

message 25: by Mo (new)

Mo (mobroon) | 729 comments I am on a comfy chair curled up with the laptop on the arm of it. I have a coffee table to the side of me with yesterdays cup beside it. To the other side there is a blanket Kist with my clutter. Piles of books etc. The light is poor so all the lamps are on and it is chilly so I must light the stove but I am too lazy to go out for logs and it is cold out there.

message 26: by Sara (new)

Sara Boyd (saraboydauthor) | 1211 comments I have a laptop so no fixed place. At the minute I'm in the coldest room of the house, laptop on a table full random stuff, facing a wall with two stormy sea paintings. Just like Justine, should be doing promo stuff and also research for second novel but here I am.

message 28: by Harrison (new)

Harrison Davies (harrisondavies) | 186 comments I'm in the office. Fake Canon lens coffee cup to my left, phone and self made calendar to my right (can't afford real calendars in our office). Further to my right is my desk tidy with my appropriated scissors and cellygog, oh, and random elastic bands. beyond that is my mountain man food to keep me going.

Ahead of me is my work PC (yukk) I prefer my Mac and iPad, and my Office Nerd award.

Now to chomp down on Walkers prawn cocktail crisps, and write some of Underworld on the iPad.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments cellygog??

Harrison Davies (harrisondavies) | 186 comments Sellotape/Cellotape. Cellygog was the name for it when I was a child, and I've never forgotten it. Must be a North East thing, or specific to Hartlepool.

Tim | 8539 comments I have a perpetual calendar, which I made myself. It was very cheap: it's a post-it (actuall a tescos rip off) with the word "Today" written on it.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Pre-8am, I post from the office Mac, three screens but I only use two at that time of the morning! It is my husband's desk so therefore shockingly messy. I usually have to remove a half drunk cold cup of coffee and biscuit crumbs. During the day if I am "working" it's from the other mac, an open Goodreads window lurking behind numerous Graphite 8 windows showing assorted shocking buildings and the odd architectural masterpiece. This all takes place in the "office" which would be a lovely room if it weren't so full of stuff. Two arched windows, coombed ceiling and views over the golf course to the sea and Fife beyond. Well not today because it's foggy, but I'm sure it's there. Or if I'm not required at the forefront of modern design I'll be posting from my tablet, maybe even from outside!

Probably Donald Trump.
But we need it for the Open qualifying!

Yesterday was "Never eat breakfast in a place with more than two pinball machines."

Bless my Mother..

message 41: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Barrett | 1537 comments I post from in here, which is my son's old room, rechristened The Writing Pad :) and I practically live in this room.

I have a desk on which sits this very keyboard and a couple of notebooks and a 0.5mm mechanical pencil. The desk is pulled away from wall and the gap is bridged by a 12" shelf on which sit my two monitors. Between them is a little wooden heart of special significance, and two spent 9mm rounds I picked up from the SAS (ssshhh).

I always have the blackout blind down (it has a row of printed footballs across the bottom), but if it were open you'd see the bungalow opposite, and at the top of the hill is the local cop shop with its huge antenna.

The walls are covered in framed pencil drawings of skulls and freaks I did years ago, of photos of Charlotte's Lodge, Prague, and a group pic of the guys at work with me sitting on the van roof and my boss with his nipple out.

Behind me is a Fender guitar that I play very very badly and a practice amp next to my boy's acoustic with broken strings.

In the corner is a bookshelf, and next to it is a dusty exercise bike.

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 7663 comments In a huge feather pillowed armchair beside a closed in fire! The chair is covered in cotton damask and I've a huge fluffy pillow wedged to one side. I like to completely curl up when I sit down so my lap top is balanced on the arm of the chair and on one knee. It's more stable than it sounds I promise!!! The floor is a light wood, and there's lots of light coming in the windows, or at least there would be if only the sun would shine!!!

I do a lot of my writing in this spot, or sometimes up to the kitchen table.

I concentrate best when I'm in the thick of a load of noise, which is fortunate or I really do think my mum and sister would disown me!!!

message 45: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) | 6579 comments I need a din of some kind, so not total noise but the noise you'd get in a library with a load of people around. it needs to constant though

Funny you should say that, I wrote about 40% of Destiny in a loud karaoke bar. Probably why it needed editing so much. Now, however, I can't seem to concentrate in noisy environments.
