Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments A huge floating duck has been released in Sydney harbour this week, and a comet is due to enter the solar system later this year, one that will, hopefully, be brighter than the moon in the night sky when it passes near. (sources from BBC and Guardian websites). Is the duck a homing beacon for the comet?

Write a 200 word sci-fi story linking the duck's appearance and the comet approaching!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments This looks a good one! What's the deadline Jud?

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Good grief! These contests get weirder and weirder! Michael, where's this come from?! Lol.

Well, sci fi isn't my thing, but I'll definitely give this a go. At first I thought, 'what on earth am I meant to do with this?' but even as I type, ideas are forming.

Thanks, Michael. :)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments This should be right up Geoff's street!!

message 5: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Sounds like fun - I shall give it a go.

message 6: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments 2 weeks or entries, 1 week for voting and then 1 week break.

So, all entries to me by the 23rd :o)

message 7: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeldiack) | 180 comments I'll be interested to see what people come up with.

I just saw the two headlines and I just knew there was a story somewhere to be made (hopefully). Good luck to everyone!

message 8: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) I have the germ of an idea - and a title too :-)

Lol! We'll have to have "What I Did In My Holidays" next time.
Do they still do that in schools? After every effin break!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Erm.

Yes Rosemary.

That is the fallback lesson cuz teachers never do any planning during a holiday. Rightly so, I reckon!

message 11: by Michael (last edited Jan 10, 2013 08:44AM) (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) "[REDACTED]" has been submitted.

message 12: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments It's not anonymous if you tell us the title! ;)

message 13: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Yes it's supposed to be anonymous.

Also, just a reminder to pm me all entries, do not post them here

message 14: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Ooops :-(

No-one saw a thing - right!

message 15: by Kath (new)

message 17: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 210 comments Ooh, brilliant challenge! I'll have a go at this one, work permitting. That means I'll probably write it while on a train...

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Bump - hope there are lots of entries flooding in!

message 19: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments 1 week left to get your entry in

message 20: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Still thinking. Still trying not to end with - "It's a mistake! I'm a drake!"

message 21: by Nicola (new)

Nicola Palmer | 255 comments It's tricky. I might duck out of this one ...

message 22: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments only 4 days left to get your stories written and pmed to me!

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments My head aches. If I don't enter someone else will have to come last.

message 24: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments This one is driving me quackers...

message 28: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Wednesday Jonathan.

message 29: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) It was yesterday I don't want the competition!

;-)

message 30: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Well technically tonight by midnight but if it means getting a few more entries then we can extend to tomorrow at midnight :o)

message 31: by Kath (last edited Jan 22, 2013 06:46AM) (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments But is that our midnight or the USA's midnight? I confuse easily!

message 32: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments MY midnight!

To be honest, so long as it is in my inbox before I get to work in the morning (8am) or even before I remember to post the thread for the entries which could take a few days with my record...

But are you from the UK or the USA? ;)

message 34: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Just going to write something now. But, be warned, this could be the silliest thing I have ever written.

message 35: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments That is irrelevant Jonathan, I have my own Daylight Disney Time.

Midnight tends to be just after I lose 1 shoe.

message 36: by Jonathan (last edited Jan 22, 2013 11:57AM) (new)

Jonathan Hill | 1599 comments Ah, I see. Glad that's cleared the matter up! ;)

Just going to PM you now with my entry.

Again I'll say it is extremely silly, so please don't judge my published material on this entry! lol

what happens when the clocks go back though?

message 38: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Daylight Disney Time clocks don't go back, or forward. They are prone to 'woman's prerogative' though where I can change the time when I want to just because.

message 39: by Marc (new)

Marc Nash (sulci) | 4313 comments Ha ha ha!

message 40: by Michael (new)

Michael Brookes (technohippy) Sounds very familiar :-)

message 41: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments *kicks off one shoe*

I now declare this competition closed.
