Odd one again. Subtle horror; complex story lines that cross over to one another

read some reviews for Mr. Peanut and tell me what you think. that is more murder/mystery, but it does have storylines that converge and inform each other and there aren't any ghosties or anything
Try Sam Kates'
.I just read it recently and you will probably be able to turn off the lights, but you will lay there and think about it in the dark.
oh KAREEEENN... thank you! exactly what I was looking for....Alfred Hitchcock....murder... and you review was lovely. purchased. When I have time, I will get on with house of leaves; also mentioned in your review. From what i heard, and from what i have seen (as i now physically own it) it's going to take a lot of time to get through that one. The premise sounds a bit like Gone Girl, but I read the first page, and a few reviews, and I'm delighted that it seems to share a similar broad plot, but not the specifics.
Jacqueline thanks! recommendation noted and added to the "to read". i saw that you are the only one to review this book! how awesome is that. i love the concept of reading a book without being clouded by others judgments and analyses.
Definitely House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski (and the fact that I've now recommended this book in two different threads doesn't mean I have a financial interest...just a fan! =))

The House Next Door
I never think of this author as being one to write a horror novel, but here it is. Super creepy.

What You See in the Dark, has had its mixed reviews, and downright torn apart by some goodreaders. What I liked was the way that story lines crossed over and touched lightly on one another, sort of like Donald Ray Pollock' lovely and addictive writing. I own and haven't read his short stories yet, and I know someone will recommend them in this thread, because Devil All the Time fits it (what I'm looking for) perfectly. So would Kiss Me, Judas, in some respects. There was something about What you... that married these concepts with highlights of an existing, and well known story (psycho, which alone fits nicely in what I am looking for, too)... They key is subtle, and realistic... No ghosts, no goblins, no witches... realistic, subtle horror, fight, scare me and make me not want to turn off the bed side table, novels.
enough rambles.. suggestions?
