Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments When I rate books on GoodReads I tend to be quite generous. I always look at the better side of the book (until less there isn't one!), I try to rate more ... bluntly but I can't. So that results in a lot of 4 star books!

Btw. My rating average is 3.97 .LOL

So what about you?

Trip (shardsofromance) Oh Im the exact same as you, every book I read I always consider the good factors and forget the bad whilst rating which is why most of mine are 4 stars. A few I've been really cruel with though and given a 3... just because they have something big in them that I absolutely hated even if the rest was great.

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments We'rs too nice. :3

Katelin Forrester | 91 comments Haha, I'm too nice, my average rating was 4.01 at one point!

message 5: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments LOL, I think that was initially my average. But then I went through my books again and rated them again. Yep.

message 6: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) Um how do you know what your average is anyway?
xD Mines probably 4 something I think.

message 7: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Umm, you go on your profile/account page and then under your picture should be a
"____ ratings (___avg)"

message 8: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) Oh thanks xD As I thought its 4.24 I've got to start being more strict with my ratings, often I just give a 4 if I enjoyed it as usually if im bored with a book I just wont finish which is rare though.

message 9: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I never DNF - I don't even have a shelf for that!

message 10: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) Wow... I only haven't finished a few books and its mainly because I just cant be asked to read the rest cause I'm bored. Only one on my Never finished is because I really couldn't continue the main character just frustrated me so much and sort of upset me since she'd been so great till part way through.

message 11: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I have this gigantic wall that stops me from DNFing a book. I just push through the rest of the book and hope that it gets better (doesn't usually happen). And then I give it a 3. *Sigh* The lowest rating I have ever given a book is 2.

message 12: by Trip (new)

Trip (shardsofromance) Lowest rating I've given is a 3, sometimes I have the same wall and so I end up finishing then just give a 3 too.

message 13: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments LOL, we are way too nice!

message 14: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) I end up giving a lot of books 4's to books, too. My lowest on Goodreads are two-stars because I usually don't finish books that I don't think are good or interesting. I'd rather read something I would enjoy reading, otherwise it would take me longer to read the book.

My average rating: 3.61

message 15: by Chelsea (last edited Jan 17, 2013 11:08PM) (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments *Sigh* I wish I could DNF. Some books are really horrible *GASP*.
I've seen quite harsh raters too on goodreads. I need an abrasive side. (SPONGEBOB! Sorry my little brother and sister force me to watch it.)
I've seen people who give a book 2 stars even though the book hasn't even been released yet!

message 16: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) I don't like it when people do that. They don't even give the book a chance before making assumptions about it.

message 17: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Exactly!

message 18: by Cassandra (last edited Jan 21, 2013 12:24AM) (new)

Cassandra I'm horrible about rating books. I always take the star ratings at face value.
1 star-- didn't like it. If I hadn't of bought the book, I would burn it. >.>
2-- it was okay. I didn't take anything from it, but I didn't completely waste my time.
3--liked it. Usually, it's an interesting plot idea or such.
4-- really liked it. I could rave about it... but i still wouldn't re-read it.
5-- amazing enough to read again and again.

My average rating it 3.57

Sophie (warpedline) | 214 comments Here's how I roll.

1 - Hated it. Like, really, never read again, waste of money shred it to pieces hate it.
2 - Didn't like it. Might read again if I was really, really bored, but rather wouldn't. Not really worth buying.
3 - Good book. Enjoyed it, interesting plot.
4 - Loved it! Amazing, will definitely read again. Love this author.
5 - AWESOME! LOVE IT! Favourite all time, won't shut up about how amazing it is.

My avg rating is 3.98

I don't like it when people make bad assumptions about books that haven't been released. Good opinions are awesome, but bad are just judgemental.

message 20: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Hoehne (nikkirajaramlol) | 315 comments I hate that i do that too! I give a bad book like 4 stars and its not until i think about it later that i realize i should have given it like 2:/

message 21: by Cassandra (new)

Cassandra I hate the moment when as a kid I loved the book, and thought it was all shades of magical, and rated it with like five stars. And then I read it again and throw it out the window....
Should never read a book you liked in your childhood. >.>

message 22: by Chelsea (last edited Jan 25, 2013 06:35PM) (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments I don't usually re-read books, so thats not really a problem for me.

message 23: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (Oceanwhisper) | 39 comments I really try to rate with my what I think is appropriate, but I find myself being very generous...

message 24: by Chelsea (new)

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Sometime this month I will definely rerate my books! I am far to generous. *sigh*.

message 25: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth | 2466 comments I try to give an honest review the problem is if I don't like a book I have to make myself read it so it seems I like all the books I read cause most of the time I can't finish it if I don't like it and how can I do an Honest review without reading the whole but maybe I'm weird or something

message 26: by Emma (new)

Emma (emma_reader) | 240 comments I try to be mean when I'm rating books, but my average rating is 4.15. :P I guess I'm not being mean enough...

I don't usually review books but I know where you are coming from.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

My Average rating is a 3.48
I actually feel that I'm a bit too judgmental. However, 3 = like and 4 = really like. So I don't actually feel like I'm doing the books a disservice. Also, in a lot of my ratings, I'm trying to remember how I felt about books I read all across my life. Who knows how many books I've actually read and just can't remember the titles.

message 29: by Donald (new)

Donald My average is 3.47 and I think "generous" is the normal way of rating things. If I would've given a book 1 or 2 stars, there's a very good chance I wouldn't have finished it at all, and I don't give ratings to things that I don't finish since there's always the possibility it turned out amazing in the second half and I was just too lazy to get there (or something- not likely but possible). If there are more people that do that than just me (and I can tell from previous responses here that there are), then all of the average ratings on GoodReads are probably higher than they should be, haha.

Chelsea (theycallmebookworm) | 1955 comments Very true!

message 31: by Lade (new)

Lade (ladet) I'm a generally blunt person but when it comes to book reviews ii try to tone it down a little. someone put a lot of time and effort into the book so I try to be nice.

5 stars: awesome book. so wonderful. I loved it and could read it over and over again.
4 stars: it's great but I wouldn't read it again
3 stars: okay
2 stars: it's not the best book but it's readable
1 star: terrible. horrible. will never read again. with never even look at. nothing can save this book

also, if a book has too much typos, it can't get more than 44 stars from me
another thing that puts me off is when the author doesn't do good research for their book. no more than 3 stars
